I guess it's really a You Had to be There Moment. Unlike a weekend that I rented a car but couldn't return it on Sunday so I had to get an NCO to drive me to the place by Rammstein , during duty hours. He was in the drivers seat when I opened the passenger door to sit and what I saw on the floor almost killed me right there. About 1/3 to 1/2 of a joint lay there and apparently none of us really remembered anything about it except that we probably were all guilty. Uncomfortable drive until he took a wrong turn and we spent all day looking at the countryside. Too bad I had stomped on that hash joint as I could've used it as I figured I'd be crucified or atleast docked pay and an Article 15 for wasting a duty day. This was pre cell phone days too and we had no military radio in that little car. Big respect for that E6(?) as he never mentioned, tattled, or asked to smoke the mostly mystery weed. Best I could figure is it must've fallen while the driver took a round about at maybe 80 kmh too fast but I don't know exactly where it came from other than possibly someone bought something in Amsterdam, hey single with red light district with Heineken fresh off tap for breakfast and ancestral homeland for almost an entire line from one grandparent. I didn't know that at the time but very strange feeling of something bigger than Deja Vu. In my convoluted way this relates to women in the military. Unfortunately our first bar in Amsterdam was full of beautiful 6 foot tall women, all of them similar and we were probably the only 4 straight guys. Suddenly two of us look at each other in horror as the Adam Apples and 12 AM shadows started peaking through the make up. We almost had to drag my now brother in law out as I think that he thought he couldn't not score with a lovely Northern European Shield Maiden. We had to sit him down once outside to explain and I'm sure he was Grateful that Mr. Winky or Winklefloonoogin didn't poke him as he slept off that devil alcohol. they should've issued us old Perivan(sp?) better known as the VolksMeth and we would've been with heads on a swivel. A couple years later we had a long layover on a Sunday morning and dressed in civilian clothes and trying to not look American as we made our way to Venice by air then Vicenza by bus. I got paired up with maybe the only female in our mixed MOS unit and I think they put my only buddy on a later flight because they probably suspected that we would've headed straight to the red light district even at 6 am on a Sunday when everything was closed. Instead I fumed about our orders to not leave the airport to even go smell the tulips. My new lovely "battle buddy" kindly listened as I sat at the beer tap area in the airport and trying to savor each Heineken as I chugged it. Someone must of whispered to our OIC that a few hour long bus tour for the willing was a good thing and it was. it also prevented me from showing up in Vicenza pig drunk and angry. I never ever visited a prostitute but I was tempted as my wedding was at 13 months and counting down but with a proper female in tow(reminds me of Ensign Davis on SEAL Team) and one of my usual side kicks still over the Atlantic, I couldn't even go see if a stripper was to be found. I'm glad that I didn't cheat but you never tie down a free spirit/part wolf with "Thou shalt not breathe fresh air"...that is worse than a dare or calling Peter Griffin a chicken.

It's pretty much a joke now. If any civilian or veteran ever comments something with legitimate criticism of the military on Facebook, they are met with loads of hate. "When did you serve" they'll say to civilians even though the civilian's taxes provide their jobs! "Good thing dinosaurs like you are retired and the 'good old days' don't exist anymore" they'll say to the older veterans who helped pave the way for the younger service-member's job and national security! I've gained a strong dislike of the Forces recently with their Facebook posts and its members. It's almost seems like many of them join for a couple of years just to say that they were a veteran and they have to be respected. Someone I know was a chef for 2 years and he did the same thing

Yet the rank and file continue to excel at completing complex missions and difficult taskings. The men and women who are the professional soldier, air crew and sailors are not allowed to publicly discuss any of this.

@@looinrims In the UK it's the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air force but it's just ARMY, not Royal Army. It dates back to the English Civil War when the Navy stayed loyal to the King but a lot of the Army sided with Parliament. In the Army you have to make an oath to the Queen. In the Navy/Marines you don't, your loyalty is not under question and is infered so no oath needed
