Another Knight Rider Car is Born 

I loved Knightrider as a child and still love it to this day, I have all the season's the only thing I can honestly say I do not have is a car just like it but if I was going to have one I would like to make sure it was capable of doing everything in the tv series Turbo Boost and everything!!

I can't wait to start workin on my replica of KITT when I get the car.

I had a KITT replica and i miss it. The engine had a spark plug that broke down inside of the motor, but i decided to part it out instead. I was SO close to being done too! I'm hoping in the near future to either get another base car Trans Am or FireBird, or hit lottery money...crossing my fingers for that! lol If i were to hit enough in the lottery, i'd buy a turnkey from Rob Louisell. His KITTs are true & dead-on to the TV show!

The dash monitors in that two TV dash setup are actually touch screen GPS units. Not sure where they were purchased, but I know they are available all over in different styles and sizes.

@KoryuKid The front "clip" as you call it is not a Trans Am or Firebird bumper at all actually. It's a custom nose that Universal Studios designed for the front of Kitt. Our bumpers are molded after the identical design Universal used. And the light bars, or scanners have a variety of settings. The speed control of the movement wasn't controlled by the car speed, but rather a dial allowing the driver to adjust it accordingly. Just like the show. :-) Peace man.

@vwbeetleowner No prob man. The 2 touch screens in Raul's Kitt are actually hand held GPS units that we mounted behind the TV openings on his dash. Then I soldered into their wiring so we could add a separate on/off switch to turn them on from. As far as exact models, and where he found them.....I'll see if I can get him to tell me. :-) Peace man. Mike

I've always been a 1 TV dash person. I've always like the look of the 3rd/4th season style dash. Looks more modern and "newer." Peace man. Mike

That portion of the center console typically remains unchanged in these conversion cars, but to answer your question, both the car being assembled in this video, as well as my 3/4 season conversion have regular stereo's in their stock locations. As far as "my" monitor goes in my Kitt car.....well, it's full of surprises. :-) Some of my videos here on my channel show what it's capable of. LoL. Good luck on your conversion too. What season are you going with?

The dash electronics don't run off the car's computer....but rather the stock sending units in a Trans Am. Some have different set ups...but they're all pretty much the same.

It sure can be...but after wiring mine several times, and parts of the one shown in this video....I think I'm getting good at it now. :)

They are not useless. As I said, they are still there. There is a small gap that still allows for air flow behind the dash and into the passenger area, so for folks that have working AC in their cars, the AC still functions. I've seen people make small channels out of plastic to re route the air flow around the dash for stronger air flow though.

Not long at all. But the enhancing and adding too has never stopped since then. Kinda hard to leave it alone without adding more to it. :-)

@KoryuKid Some of them are altered custom made noses that are indeed cut up stock bumpers, but the ones you see in my videos are molded from what was used in the TV Show. :-)

The TVs are two separate GPS touch screens mounted from behind......and tied into the dash and the car's 12 volt power.

@WhiteStarVlogger Season 1 should have the full length pilot with audio commentary. Either way....it's definately worth another watching of it with the audio commentary on. :-) Peace man.

This dash will not fit into a C1500 pickup. The dash and it's support and mounting sections are specifically designed to utilize the existing mounting locations, screw holes, and forms that are associated with a third generation Firebird or Trans Am. (82 thru 92) I'm sure one could be modified to fit that vehicle, but you'd half to cut into the fiberglass dash and relocate much of the internal components. It would be a big job.

The dash was actually painted with a gravity spray gun. And although the matte finish is good, I've always elected for the gloss due to the fact, that's how it looked in season 3 and 4, and at the Universal Theme parks in the Kitt cars that were displayed there. :-)

GREAT JOB MIKE, i remember doing my KARR i love this dash too.

It's located down a very long and isolated road in West Tulsa. But that shop isn't used anymore....not sure who has it now....but none of the cars are kept there anymore.

@nicolashayaya Had no manuals for the dash installation....as a matter of fact, much of the brackets, wiring, and extras had to be figured out as I went along with both my car, and my buddies car in this video. I Really Love That Car.. i would never sell it.. not in a million years

It may be able to be "made" to fit....but no, typically they are designed to take the place of the stock dash pad from a 3rd Gen Trans Am or Firebird. The lines and contours of the 4th gen birds are different inside, and would make a proper fit next to impossible without modifications.

@KN1IGHT Yeah, my brothers KITT car that he just picked up needs some monitors like that. The previous owner had put 2 old non functioning CRTs in there. We want to put LCDs in there to make it a bit more usable. plus LCDs look really nice.

@KSE828 Uhh....lets see here.....the car itself is 29 years old, so nope...no airbag. And yes, the steering wheel is legal. I've been driving "my" knight rider car (not the one being assembled in this video, but the primary one all over my youtube channel here) and have never received any grief from any law enforcement agency. The wheels are solid and are professionally mounted with a grant adapter. :-) Peace man.

@vwbeetleowner I know that Brenon is a great guy to get parts from, and through the several times I've talked to him...he's nice and good at what he does. I also know that he's playing catch up last time I heard. He produces not just the scanner....but dash electronics as well. He's a very busy guy and may still be catching up his orders. Be patient with him.....he'll get back with you. :-)

@sandy9623 No problem...they come complete with multiple sleepless nights, learning new colorful words to your vocabulary, and an absolute ton of patience. :-) But in the end, they are a ton of fun. :-) First step though....find a good solid donor car....preferably, 82 - 86 model Trans Am or Firebird. :-)

Nothing. The channels that direct the air flow are still there behind the Knight Rider dash. They continue to still function as working AC vents.

I'm afraid it's not up to me. :-) But Knight Rider was canceled back in the late 80s after being on the air for four years. And what you see on my RU-vid channel here is the best I can do for now bud. :-)

Hey Mike, do you have an online video or written tutorial on overlaying the overlay with the acrylics?? I'm getting my electronics from Lectric Ent. and want that same clean look.

Up to a 92... 93 became the 4th Gen.. just in case quatro had a 90, 91, or 92. Mine is a 92 :)

@microbusss You may want to double check the scanner thingy you mentioned. A buddy of mine with a KARR conversion thought the same thing. No sooner did he flip on his amber scanner, cruising down the highway....he got pulled over. The cop told him it didn't matter....it was still a "flashing" light. But, that was Oklahoma after all. Hey there Michael, not sure if you would know or if you would be able to find out but in the video where it shows the connections to the dash gage cluster contacts, do you know what they used to connect wires into that connector? I was going to just T-Tap or splice right into the wires but it looks like in their video they are using a type of connector??

His is an 82, mine is a 84/85 conversion.

Remote starting my Kitt hasn't been a priority to me, mostly due to the fact my Kitt is a 5 Speed and not an automatic. Plus....maybe one day he'll have that feature....but as of now.....not yet.

I was wondering where can i find a front bumber from a web site i can trust? or any where in California? Then my next question would be the dash and scanner. Please help me. P.S. your is very nice. Wish i had more car buddys to help me.

Making my own Kitt Replica, I'm telling you wiring is a big part of making a Replica car, from the fog light to the dash. By the way I saw you had a gullwing steering wheel, what's your center cover made of? Is it plastic or metal or fiberglass? Also how long did it actually take to do the entire wiring? Keep up the good work :)

So are the front vents basically useless with the dash mounted in front of them? I imagine you have to rely on the lower (foot) vents and the window vents. Doesn't sound like it would be fun to drive in the 100 degree Vegas summer

A decent amount of time was spent assembling the dash and putting it in the car. Not really hard, just takes some creativity and some patience. :-)

@WhiteStarVlogger If you ever get a chance, listen to the commentary audio track from the pilot episode. (if you have the DVDs) You'll hear Glen Larson saying that the very first two third gen Trans Ams ever produced, were suppose to be sold to GM dealers....but instead went to the pilot episode of KR. They were the VERY FIRST TWO cars ever made and they went right to the show. :-) Then when I met Larson, I asked him, and he confirmed it. :-) Cool huh. :-)

ill bet! i have just startet ordering parts to build my kitt, but think its gonna be a pain in the ass too hook up the electrick from the dash.. btw, you have to buy a watch whit rf sender so you can remote start your kitt whit your watch!

@donmega3000 I would recommend joining one of the Knight Rider communities like knightfoundation. Google that name, and you should be able to find their links. They have many trusted vendors there and they would also help put you in touch with the proper people for your dash and scanner. That way, you would at least have a bit more piece of mind in knowing you wouldn't get ripped off. Look up on Google, a company called "Lectric Enterprises" ran by a gentleman named, Brenon Fulbrite. He's one of the main individuals responsible for reproducing Knight Rider electronics. There are several others, but youtube doesn't permit links in the comment section here. :-)

Is that steering wheel road legal? I can't imagine that you have an airbag in there.

The car is legal to drive provided certain features are not used on a public road. One being the red scanner in the bumper. Totally illegal to drive with it on in all 50 states of the US. The tail light cover varies from state to state on the legalities of using it on the road. And no...the steering wheel isn't standard. :-) It's molded after the one used on the "real" car in the show Knight Rider. And in my state, there is no law stating you have to have a round steering wheel. :-)

I may be able to reach him sooner.....but again.....I know he's been very busy. I once sent Brenon all my dash board electronics so he could repair and replace a couple of my LEDs and resistors that were going out. Plus I've met him in person before, and talked with him many times. :-)
