Neptune Systems goes over the 2016 line-up of Apex aquarium monitor and control systems. Also in this video is a sneak peek into some soon to be released products as well as new features in Apex Fusion.
Hi Terrence, thank you for all your videos and for Neptune for making this amazing product to us. I just recently purchased Neptune Apex and I was wondering if Neptune system make TDS sensor. I'm trying to automate my RO/DI Thanks
I recently had one of your energy bars fail on me. One of the outlets got stuck in the ON position, unfortunately it was the ATO resrvoir pump and I was using Kalkwasser. It practically destroyed all my SPS and flooded my sump and floor was ruined. I did contact your tech support but they were very defensive on the issue telling me that things just break and that I should have had an extra EB8 and even an extra controller for those type of situations (seriously...?). They diagnosed the issue and determined that it was not user abuse and that it was normal wear and tear on the outlet. I had it for about 3 years which seemed like too short of a lifespan for such an expensive item. At the end of the day your tech support fixed the EB8 and charged me for the fix. They sent it back with the USB ports bent and in very poor shape (they were perfectly straight when I sent it earlier). I had to send the unit back and get it fixed again and now it's on its way back to me...hopefully it will be ok... Not happy at all with the whole experience nor with the response from your team. You can check the videos in my channel to see the damage and the whole story in detail.
We will look into your case further. Do know though that switching devices do have a limited lifespan depending on how often they are turning off and on. It is very common for people to incorrectly configure their ATO such that rather than coming on and off say four to six times a day, they have it come on and off as soon as the level drops a little bit. This will cause many more on/off cycles than necessary. Sometimes many hundred times a day. Multiply that by three years and you get tens of thousands of cycles. Not saying that is what happened here, but on a switching device like the Apex, outlets are not measured by years, but by cycles. Now, as far as it flooding your tank and the destroying your SPS, that is your fault. If you are an expert reefkeeper with a youtube channel, you would know it is not about if something will fail, but when. And, how well have I made my aquarium bulletproof to these failures. In the case of ATO, you should have had a high and low level float switch, independently set to send you email and audible alarms when the sump was either too low or too high. Furthermore, any expert that automatically doses Kalk knows that any misstep means death to the tank. So, they always have an alert on their pH level in the tank. If it goes too high, they have an audible and email alarm. Likely if you had done these things, you would have received an alert and caught the issue. Remember, any outlet also can be inadvertently turned to the on position from your phone or computer. You want failsafes like those I mentioned above for many reasons. Now, in terms of how you got your equipment back, I will have to look into that further. Lastly, this is not necessarily the place to air this out. We do have a community forum as well that is perfect for these kinds of issues or complaints. Spamming all our social media with multiple copies of your issue is not helpful. In fact, if you had used our forum in the first place to get the information on how to safely set up Kalkwasser, you might also not have found yourself in this dilemma. forum.neptunesystems.com/showthread.php?14819-ATO-and-KALK-Best-Practice&highlight=kalkwasser forum.neptunesystems.com/showthread.php?13495-ATO-Failsafes&highlight=kalkwasser And there are plenty more.
Hi Terrence, thanks for the video. Can you just be clearer on the Uk market. Does this mean the new Energy Bar won't be coming to the European market? If so.. When? Thanks.
Will the new Apex send text alerts better in and around the UK and Europe? Just having email alerts fails to wake me up - and I struggle to find them among the spam. In fact ringing my mobile would be even better (ie autodialler function) as then I could put a warning melody to listen out for..Neil
The new iOS app enables iOS alerts that will work in UK and EU. Aside from that you can look for services there that do what we have here in the states from our cell providers which is an email->text link.
I've just tried downloading the Apex app again onto my Samsung android but like previously there is no interactivity on the touchscreen when it is open. Is there any work around? Unfortunately my mobile provider EE one of the largest does not offer email to text..unless you know of any other solution..Neil
Our feeling is this is something that is already out there in the form of a commercially available consumer UPS (uninterruptible power supply) , with far better charging and battery replacement solutions than the EcoTech solution at a far lower price for what you get. I would say an Apex connected in a manner that detects power failure and spins down the pumps to say 1% at that time along with placing the power supply of the WAV on a consumer UPS is a far, far better solution and one that would be hard for us to compete with on the value scale.
Ok you guys should make a video explaining step by step how to do this so people have an idea how to run your products especially the wav pumps in case of a power outage that's why a lot of people get the ecotech vortech pumps for this same reasons they offer the backup battery as a plug and play
@@NeptuneSystemsVideo yeah Primo reef is right, help us by showing us how to do a hook up for a battery back up, please. THat would help sell a lot more apex units as well. Its the one thing that took me so long to decide to get the apex or go else where.
When will the new Apex iOS App be released? I'm assuming the iOS Alerts will be setup through the App or is there some other way for setting those up through Fusion online?
Can you make a fresh water control system like your saltwater system and make my life a lot easier since I travel a lot with me being a toy train displayer
yes that we know "the new apex is paired with the old Energy bar 6"..! but when do we expect THE NEW ENERGY BAR to be available for 240V???? that is what we all want to know
Because there is no 120v in the UK. We will evaluate all of the international markets and see if and when a new Energy Bar in 240v could be released for each of the plug standards. This is a significant upgrade as we have been asked for the Apex Gold in foreign markets for some time and this offering is an improvement over that.
+Neptune Systems if the new energy bar doesn't come to the uk I honestly have no idea what my future will be with Apex. Although it only really lacks the power monitoring I know I'd still love my apex. Think where I am is that if the new Energy Bar comes over I think selling me the Wav becomes a whole lot easier. I'm currently invested in Ecotech pumps & lights. Really excited about the new IOS app. Any tease on its release?
+Neptune Systems the problem as well is that the American market gets more outputs per energy bar and therefore better value for money as we have to buy additional energy bars to be on par. These units are not exactly cheap
+Jamie Shorter this is true in the UK. However should they sell me the WAV and the solenoid I could retire 4 outlets already being 1, 2x ecotech pumps, 2, 1 DOS From power 3, 1 ATO Maybe even 5 if they got me onboard with their COR. However all this hangs on bringing new EB to uk. I currently have two EB6.
Neptune Systems ha ha, you guys missed the winky face at the end. Your spokesperson in the video just emphasized you're not getting rid of it 100 times, so I thought I'd be cheeky and ask again.
At some point there may be a dedicated app. Until then, Apex Fusion works great as a web app especially if you make a home screen shortcut as it will go full screen.
It's such a shame there's no EB8 in the UK, I'm not that bothered about the extra 2 sockets but the missing 1 link sockets is a real downer, meaning to run two wavs in the uk costs over £700...having to buy a £200 one link really sticks in my throat. It just reals like we are being ripped off in the UK.
No Android app? What are you playing at guys? You understand you haven't catered for the largest mobile platform, thats a shame. I love the idea of one of these but as a UK consumer i cant justify it currently. When/if they provide the latest energy bar for UK Market i will make the investment. Can you confirm if this will ever happen?
+Leo Snetsinger wow that is horrible. go onto Neptune 's forum and there might be some info on this. I really thought I saw somewhere that they would upgrade costumers that they just bought a gold pkg.
