My husband is a 5w4 and I agree with this! He is so logical but often so deep and EXTRA 😭 I struggle to understand how logical and emotional can co-exist 😅
I'm a 5w4 and it's hard sometimes 😅. We are very emotionally deep and sensitive due to the 4 wing, probably even more so than most people realize. However because we are 5s we are not super comfortable with this emotional depth and often wish that we could just turn it off. It's a constant internal tension due to our main type and wing being so different.
5w6 here. I just want to say that we're problem solvers because problems create stress, and we hate stress. We want everything to be calm, quiet, and peaceful. We abhor the chaos that problems bring on our lives. We are great at handling stressful situations -- problems -- precisely because we are terrible at handling stress. That's our motivation. Prevent the stress from building up and nip it in the bud!
You are right I just discovered my enneagram so I have like teeny tiny difference between type 4 5 and 6. I get stressed alot and then I solve the problem like 4 and 5 first and 5 and 6 after
I'm a 5w6 and the phrase "It's important to me that people understand things" could be my life motto. That might be my motivation for just about everything I say and do. 😄
Also, the PowerPoint party sounds genius. I can't think of a more fun activity to do with a group of people. I have several presentations ready to go. (not joking!)
As a fellow 5, I totally understand this problem. I used to work as a Chef, fixing struggling kitchens (think kitchen nightmares but without the theatrics), and I would go so far as to try and understand each staff member's style of learning and then come up with mini-lectures while working on the line. Once everybody knew their roles, it was time to move on.
I seem to be a 5w4 in my natural environment (i.e. at home) and a 5w6 at work. This is a new insight for me as my 4 wing is so strong, I thought there was no way I ever functioned as a 6 wing 🧐. Amazing 🤓
The 5w4 skit was accurate af. I even did the hand puppets all the way to 8th grade and also even made a video where I literally talked about wanting to increase my intelligence but not putting myself up with Aristotle or Plato. What a coincidence.
The hand puppets were a great representation for some of my internal dialogue. I had a chuckle. You use/used actual hand puppets? What did that change to?
As a 5w4, my creativity is manifested through performing on stage. I love character work and trying new things in rehearsals, and exploring emotions and situations I don't have in real life. People tell me I'm very precise and consistent, which is music to my ears. But then I go home and sit in the dark and contemplate my existence. Gotta recharge like crazy after so much energy is expended.
Interesting. Me as an introverted INFJ, very rare albeit eccentric and quirky, Myers Briggs type, absolutely disdains any public speaking, performing, or large audiences whatsoever. I do best with one on one, in depth, deep and meaningful intellectual conversations where I can both teach and learn. Never in my wildest dreams would I enjoy being center stage, in any regard. And I've never met a type 5, who enjoys this but, there are variations amongst all types. What is your Myers Briggs type? I would assume you're far more extroverted than most of us. But that's cool. I guess speaking to an audience is common in professors who are 5 also.
@@emilyparker5723 I know it sounds odd. I'm an INFJ. (I swear, I've taken the test multiple times over the course of years and I've made sure that I'm not being mistyped.) Most of the time I hang back and stay quiet; I hate small talk and crowds, and I'd rather spend hours with 1-2 good friends than at a family get-together. I hate public speaking, but I can do it due to lots of experience. I'm also a singer, and that terrifies me every time I get up and sing. But I do it anyway, because it's my gift and it's very rewarding to share it. The acting thing has more to do with being prepared. Plus, I play a character when I'm on stage, and not myself. It's exhausting, but again, very rewarding. The risk is worth the reward. :)
@@karhart6663 Fully understand that. 5w4 I learned to perform my fringe "Space Metal" guitar improvs in spite of shyness bc it expresses a deeper and more powerful vision in an artistic way, and... What a thrill conveying metaphorically what is impossible with words 🌛
That's me! I played the clarinet for many years. I totally relate to experimenting in rehearsals and bringing something fresh to an audience. But yeah, it's exhausting
Of all of the type 5 videos you’ve made (that I’ve watched) this one captures the 5 the best I think! I thought you hit both wings right in the head. I saw myself. I’m a 5w6 and also lean heavily on my 4 wing.
Is it weird that I'm both of these people.. 😅 Most of my tests are basically equally distributed. Few of them said my wings are "balanced". Is that possible? I mean I go back to my watercolor palette and journal when things get rough but if I'm needed I'd jump right out to tinker things around or help others. As you said.. It's really important to me that people understand things lol. But.. It's also important to me to get some creative alone time to function well and explore.
Once you’re done with wings, I’d love a series about how to determine if you’re a 6w5 or a 5w6 (example). My top 2 when I test are always 6 and 5, so I’ve always been curious about what the differences are between people who lean heavily into their wings vs their dominant type & what the differences are between them if it was swapped. I hope that makes sense! Love your videos! They help me understand myself so much more 💕✨
Well ..usually 6s mistype as 5 because they are both thinking types .. and both can be quite intellectual..it is less common for 5 to mistype as 6s .. The difference between the two is very significant.. Sixes tend to be more linear and analytical in their thinking because they are interested in troubleshooting, in prediction, and in establishing methods that can be repeated. Thus, contrary to popular belief, the world of academia and higher education is more the realm of Sixes than of Fives.. Fives are much more non-linear in their thinking. They are interested in finding out where established theories break down and in developing iconoclastic ideas that shake up structures and established methods. Fives are, generally speaking, bolder than Sixes in their positions and creativity, but also far less practical. Fives feel that they can only trust their own minds to come to conclusions-they believe that everyone else is likely to be less well-informed. Sixes get frantic trying to find something to trust precisely because they do not trust their own minds to come to meaningful conclusions Sixes are reactive types ..can be quiet volatile emotionally..especially when stressed and pressured .. fives can be reactive but most of time they are quiet detached and cool emotionally.. they dont have strong emotional attachment to beliefs, and systems like sixes .. Furthermore, 6s are compliant types .. they move toward people .. because eventually seek support and loyalties from others..5s are withdrawn types ..they move away from people .. to protect themselves and their ideas .. I advise you to go to the enneagram institute website and read about both the types separately and then read about their misidentification ..
As someone who just started looking into this, and finding I was a 5 wing 6, I pretty much died laughing at your description because it is so spot on!!!
5w6 AF here, but I'm pretty sure my dad and grandpa were both 5w4s. My grandpa was a scientist who help develop technology to improve fire safety features in microwaves.
Time for my Type 5 character to talk! (This is a thing some writers do!) Susi: Um, hi. I'm Susi. I don't consider myself particularly creative (A/N: she says from her very aesthetically pleasing room). I do like plants a lot. I liked that bit in the video you did with the plants. I'm also super-introverted. But that whole draw towards creativity does explain why I'm helping out with theatre production. Even...if it is...exhausting... I think that when I am around other people, I rely a lot on my 6 wing so that I can actually function without feeling drained. And when I get emotionally overwhelmed, I definitely try to rationalize everything. It's why I want to study psychology. My author thinks that I may or may not be neurodivergent. But if you were to ask me, I definitely lean into my 4 wing when I want to wind down, when I'm just on my own. I just don't have a particular creative outlet...yet.
Love this! I just finished my Yin Yoga for the Enneagram type 5's video, this would have been so helpful!! What I still struggle with is the 5's integration/disintegration types. A 5 moving to an 8 is *bananas* to me.
I'm quite a bit like your depiction of the 5W4 here. It's funny because it's true. I can occasionally be like the 5W6 but only when I'm feeling really confident and unusually outgoing. I'm rarely in this 6 Wing space these days. I used to be a lot more on the 6 wing when I was younger. Very good video!
5w6 here and thank you...I work with little kids, and one of them used to call me "robot" because of what you described in the vid- but when it comes to emotional stuff...uh, error: 404? . Much to the chagrin of my boyfriend. Help?
Yay!! We 5w4s are special! I think you hit it on the head with this one, Abbey. I'm even beginning to ponder if my 6 wing is my 'cover' at work, but my 4w is my heart's desire. Def plays out that way. Keep up the good work!
5w6 here I love bed when I'm stress...when I'm on my bed I'm using my critical overthinking skills and analyze the problem while recharging my whole body 😅
I feel that in my teens and early 20s I relied heavily on the 4 wing and identified as such. I'm 32 now and I've fully embraced the 6 wing. I've made much more of an effort in my social life and I've never been happier, even despite the anxiety and drain I feel. I also try to analyze my way out of anxiety (probably too much) and get caught in thought loops. Unfortunately though, I don't create anything these days like I did when I was younger. I do miss that quite a bit 😔
My result in cloverleaf was 5 w4 and I was like no way! But still kinda of saw something of that in my personality. This video helped me confirm I’m a 5 w6! Problem solving is my thing and that phrase from 4:11 to 4:15 is totally something I would say lol 😎
Yeah. I’m definitely a 5w6. I was pretty sure before, for about 6 months when I discovered my enneagram type, but after this video I am undeniably positive im a 5w6
Me: Yes!! Finally a 5w4 or 5w6 video!! Me *after watching the video* : ... I relate too much to both....I still have no idea which one I am🙈😂 Yeah... I need to ask my friend which one they think I act the most like🤔🤷🏼♀️
You can lean on both your wings! Some people find that they have balanced wings and use both to an equal degree. That may be what's happening with you!
The Other being 1w9. My mbti is INTJ. I can see how my mbti type has somewhat an influence of my fluctuation of both of these two types. But I am.aware that MBTI and Enneagram are not correlated to each other.
My father is an obvious 5w6! He is a researcher collaborating with other researchers with his ideas and his behaviour is certainly similar to a 5w6. But it is so hard to distinguish between a 5w4 and a 5w6 since he is just too dramatic and EXTRA at home 😆
Great video Abbey! You have put in a lot of research and entertainment within a very short space. An idea for a future video - how about each Enneagram child receiving her first wounding message?
It says I’m a 5w4 on the test, but I kind of think 5w6 makes more sense for me. I am very introverted, but I’m also pretty logical and almost always stick to logical reasoning. My MBTI Type is INTP-T, I don’t know much about the Enneagram yet, but do you think 5w4 is common for INTP?
Haha I'm so 5W4 xD I just finished my masters degree in chemistry, but I chose to study computational chemistry instead of going to labs for 2 main reasons: 1- in computational chemistry I don't have to rely in anyone else to do my work 2-there's sooo much room to create new things, interpretations, new ways of approaching problems. I managed to punish 2 papers that were so original I get praised all the time
Can you please talk about the similarities between enneagram 5 and enneagram 3? For some time I thought I was a 3, but actually came to realize that I identify more with 5w4. I think that part that made me think that I was a 3 is the fact that 3s are sensitive to criticism, and I find the core motives and basic needs are hard to distinguish! After some further examination, I come to realize that the achievers enneagram 3 has to be conventional in some sense to be seen as achievers buy their peers, parent or whomever. But I’m far from conventional, that’s the point that tipped the scale for me. I’d like to know your opinion about this 😊
I cannot for the life of me figure out if I'm a 5w6 or a 6w5 On one hand I feel called out by her analysis of the 5w6 cutting off emotion as soon as I am under stress On the other hand the type 6 as a whole is motivated by fear and I know that's me
I know I'm really late to reply, but the way I figured out my type was looking at stress and growth paths. 5s have lines to 8 (in health) and 7 (in stress). 6s have lines to 3 and 9 (though I can't recall which is which).
Haha ik the artist thing was just a random creative hobby for the character but it’s funny bc im a 5w4 and I actually do art lmao (just to brag for a sec I got a 4 on ap drawing🤪)
I relate greatly to the 5w4 archetype, however, I sometimes feel I might be a Six. Any ideas on the possible differences? I definitely tend to withdraw from people when i'm stressed out. Excellent video! Thanks!
You will really appreciate reading "Personality Types" by Riso and Hudson. It's served me beautifully since 1997! Greater understanding of human nature awaits you 🌛
...I'm in this picture and I don't like it. No, no, great job with the comedic beats actually, plus acting accurate enough to make me all self-conscious with just the right amount of comedic exaggeration for emphasis. It's kinda amazing that this system has such predictive power, but then again, I hope I'm not really this predictable...
The best part is that it's designed to show you yoir predictability so that you can overcome it and move to security in who you are, flaws and strengths
This video has literally made me even more confused but I exhibit both traits lol... I love the diagnosis of the specifc details to literate a clear distinction between the two... the fact is I know I am a 5 but it's seems like I'm 49% a 4 type and 51% 6 type, very close
Enneagram is always confusing to me because I test high in A LOT of different numbers. I test high in 5, 6, 7, 3, 4, and 8. My highest seem to be 5. pretty sure I am not a 1 or 9. One time I even tested as a 2. I have no idea why though, cause I'm pretty sure I'm not a 2 either. I think I'm a 5w6...one thing I do know is that I am an ENTP that leans to almost being an INTP. Nonetheless I'm pretty sure ENTP fits a little better. Every time I've taken an MBTI I am ENTP. I am messy, pessimistic, talented, curious, argumentative, hardworking, stressed, overthink, and have minor untreated ADHD and a bachelors in Biochemistry. My lifetime goal is just to understand EVERYTHING particularly in the social sciences if I can...even though I am a physical scientist in education. Deep down I just want to be successful, feel satisfied with my pursuits, appreciated, and have people that I have learned to love with me always even though that is especially hard for me.
Are you more motivated to be unique or to be capable? 4s, like myself, will often care deeply about being unique, very creative, and be their emotions. Fives, like my husband, tend to be more logic driven, emotionally detached, and don't want to be competent in everything they do. The worst thing you could tell a 4 is that they are just like everyone else where a five is okay with that. The worst thing you could tell a five is that they weren't capable enough to do something they tried hard to complete. 4s compare to others while fives hold on to what they deem important. It's easy for those specific numbers with those wings to get mixed up as they both are emotionally and logical in their own way. They also both withdraw pretty easily. It comes down to their roots of how they see the world. Hopefully that helps
"It's important to me that people understand things" totally me 😆 I like dissecting/deconstruct the cognitive functions stack of Personality Types (MBTI) & Enneagram knowledge; to understand in deep and see the complexity of human paradoxes. I also like painting, but less often than analyzing. My priority is to help people to know & understand themselves & others. I don't make PowerPoint anymore (even if I did at school) but many videos now. These shorts video are great, efficient & fun.
Yeah I think I'm a 5w6 Edit; but it's not that important for people to understand things, I mean if they ask for my help and I have time sure but it's more important for me to understand things, other people can do whatever they want lol
I think it's a bit confusing because the 5w4 is more introverted yet more in touch with their emotions? And the 5w6 is less emotional but wants to spend more time with people? The confusion heaps on when their instinctual variant is Social. Also type 4s are said to be individualist but aren't most performing artists type 4s???? So who's truly the more introverted wing?
I did the wing test and got and equal amount of 6 and 4 although my main type is 5. I did it again with a more decisive/emotional approach and got a big 4. But I’m still pretty torn over it- I have both traits help. 💀👍
My wings are only 10% apart, is that considered close or far apart. I am 88% Four and 78% Six. Does being closer to 100% rather than under 50% have any significance? So funny watching this, my Instagram account that primarily features honey bees, native bees and flowers would lead you to me being 5W4 but if you saw me at work in my nursing role, you would see me being 5W6. 😄 And I LOVE ethics 😁.
I think I'm 50% of each. At work I mask more as a 5 W6, come across am efficient problem solver, can appear confident when hosting team meetings as theyre structured bit cringe on small talk and people flaunting their egos. At home I'm more 5 w 4, reading Dolores Cannon books, study tarot, gardening and growing veg and crocheting/knitting. I have a fascination with color too. If I could get away from day to day work stuff I'd probably be creative all day. But if it wasn't for structure I'd just be going from one of my many interests to another. Plus dealing with my challenging children, both on the spectrum. My life feels like a whirl wind. I work on technical IT side of things and love learning about that too. I'm an INFJ, dominant 9th house, with Mercury and Uranus and Venus as my top influential planets, serious capri moon ( not display much emotion, although I care about my loved ones). Gemini midheaven- so I have a ton of interests and keep switching them. Life path 11, a projector in Human Design (5,1). A full on busy life, lol! I relay on being 5w6 to make an income but 5w4 is more my core essence. I just love learning about paranormal stuff, the unexplained metaphysics, spirituality. I like learning how this applies to people on general too, although I dislike being around crowds to tell them that, more one to one. Well done if you've understood this.
I'm an INTJ 51 y/o male 5w4. I've been diagnosed with MADDisorder and take medication. I'm a devout protestant. I could know everything about a particular field of study; which is impossible, and I'll still feel like a poser or illigimate knowledge wise. I feel exposed and will now go take a nap and cuddle with my GSD in my very dark room with my fan for white noise. Make of this what you will. Edit: As far as enneagram health level, I believe myself to be a 4.75 through 7.5 🙃
My response to someone who didn’t understand why 5 and 4 are even next to each other at all! Hmm I’m a 4w5 and I can understand what you’re saying but I don’t have trouble seeing why they are side by side. Like she said, 4s don’t have a monopoly on creativity and emotional depth of feeling. 5s are very creative and can have strong feelings/emotion. Similarly, 5s don’t have a monopoly on deep diving, research, meditation into even the most seemingly mundane microcosms and finding profound meaning, inspiration and peace there! That is also a major 4 trait! The 4/5 or 5/4 iconoclast is similar to the 8 in that they like to challenge the norm. I think the thing you are pointing out is that the 5/6 or 6/5 is indeed really different than the 5/4 or 4/5.
I seem to be a 5w4(I figured that out by comparing the motivations in the other video, as well as doing some tests), but extroverted. Does that make sense? Both wings are significantly lower than for example 7,8 and 3 (which are only barely less than 5)
