At the end of the day, Silva, arguably the greatest fighter of all time, chose Seagal to train him. What you or I think about Seagal's persona is irrelevant. You're undoubtedly extremely talented if someone like Anderson Silva wants to devote thousands of hours of his time to learn from you.
+Summer Kawasaki I seen Frankie I told him to throw that right left when Chad shoots in and he did it segal just sent me a letter to show him some of my silent but deadly faces ...
I was genuinely surprised he didn't say that carrier pigeons carried an original note written in 16th century Japanese kanji and flew from Brazil to Japan to notify Seagull Sensei.
God....he's even like "O ya...he sent me this"....you know damn well before thinking of that and saying it he thought to himself: "oooo this will sound cool if I say it" lol
+abel galindo lol right dude... He kicked a guy on the chin doesn't take a grand master sensai to figure out that will probably do some damage. People like Seagal are the worst type of people. They exploit people who actually buy into their bullshit.
IN JAPAN PEOPLE WERE ANGRY AT STEVEN SEAGAL FOR TEACHING SECRETS SO THEY SENT 25 KARATE BLACK BELTS TO HURT HIM AND TEACH HIM A LESSON..... HE DEFEATED ALL OF THEM INCLUDING KILLING 14 OF THEM. HE ALSO KILLED 4 BEARS WITH HIS BARE HANDS. THIS GUY IS A MASTER OF MASTERS HE HAS A RAINBOW BELT. THE ABSOLUTE HIGHEST BELT IN ALL OF MARTIAL ARTS.
Holy sh*t !!!!!! I heard that there was someone alive out there that was honored with the legendary rainbow Belt(the belt that connects & cross-over all the Martial Arts ever created) ... I had no idea it was Steven Seagal
That is true and it happened with the Allman Brothers, Gregg started playing Guitar first then Duane picked it up and passed him in skill level. Gregg went with the Hammond B3 (my favorite instrument)
Grand Master Seagal never stated he created the front kick. His version is not your traditional front kick he added his own little twist to it and it clearly worked so why are you mad?
Why didn't ariel get an academy award for not laughing? doesn't it seem impossible? im laughing my ass off and im not even the one doing the interview, im pretty good at not laughing but an interview like this, teach me your deadly stuff, a kick I learned 40 years ago thats not exactly karate lmfao!!!
whoa Seagal trained Lyoto and taught him not just an ordinary "KarateEH" kick ...but a Variant of it.. and his also teaching Ander-san?! absolutely amazing! The Bullshido of this man is simply amazing...
darthclone7 I got triggered when I heard him say he taught that kick to Machida lol...his dad taught him that its the first kick you learn, this seagal guy is pure bullshido. I bet he taught Micheal Jordan too
"Nobody knows the kick". This is true. I had to train for hours, broken into several lessons in taekwondo as a child before I was able to even attempt that kick. Before that I had to learn the stretch leg kick and the jumping jack technique, along with a variation of push up exercise and what my instructor called "the situp". These are all little known body conditioning exercises. The idea of looking low and kicking high had never been considered before. There wasn't even a term for misdirection before Sensei Seagal invented the concept 85 years ago.
Steven learned his latest kick at the Red Lobster Sunday Buffet. It was an all you can eat; just bring your feet. Holy cow! 1:25 He has his own buffet posse!
Seagal does not even realize, Silva makes fun of Seagal. There is a video of his team mocking Seagal and how he is trying to teach him things. He totally did not want anything to do with Seagal, but Seagal kept insisting he wanted to teach him. Silva keeps bursting out in laughter. It is truly hilarious.
So he says he was training Lyoto Machida too. Then a couple months later Lyoto knocks out Randy Couture with a front kick. It's hard to take seagal serious but that's a funny coincidence.
Jordan Wright Lyoto Machida, the karate black belt, did not need Steven Seagal to teach him a front kick. It's a basic move and yes it's underused in mma but not in karate which Machida used to compete in.

PerfectSnowball I don't think there was ever any claim that he spent thousands of hours with Seagal, just some gym visits and a lot of exaggeration on Seagal's part. Anderson Silva has since denied that Seagal really trained him. He hung out with him in the gym and showed him some stuff, sure, but he was just humouring an old man who starred in films that Anderson probably liked as a kid. Then it got out of hand and he realised how stupid Seagal was making him look.
This is the best SNL skit I have ever seen. Great makeup job on Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan. Nice to see them working together. Wait...... this is real?
Steven Seagal - “Will you please teach me your deadly stuff?“i’m not doing this for attention, fame, money, I just want to help them perfect themselves“
Whilst we all want to laugh, it is interesting that at 1:06 he tells you how he is teaching it to Machida. Machida went on to win UFC 129 by front kick knockout.
This guy has lost all grip on reality WTF, how does he not see he's been trolled.. Muppet is a legend in his own head who actually thinks he discovered the front kick.
This guy is so funny, man. I could listen to him say that he's been on the Moon or that he once knocked out Chuck Norris whilst walking on water back in the 70's.
What a joke. Seagal is the biggest groupie of the UFC. He is not Anderson's official trainer. He shows up and teaches him some pointless techniques and Silva has too much respect for this groupie to call him out and embarrass him. Seagal loves the attention. He does aikido which is pointless in MMA.
The kick that silva did is called maigiri ichi, its the first kick you learn in Karate, nothing special or secret or fancy, white belts learn it on their first day.. Seagal tries to big it up by saying its more than what it actually is and this is not humble at all its just plain nonsense. I am not a movie star, I dont care who I can beat up or not but I will call bullshit like this out when I see it
I have a friend who is a very good Aikido instructor and he met Steven and sparred with him and Steven had a strop cus he get bounced by a unknown guy Seagal is full of shit! This was many years ago in the early 90s
The Angry Saxon Yep I'd definitely believe that, just going by his whole demeanour one can easily tell he has an outrageous ego.. A Geezer with an ego like this could NEVER be a fighter or take part in sparring because he wouldn't handle defeat too well... He could ONLY ever spar with his students who'd be scared as fuck to go hard on him.. Judging by this and other interviews he's done lately the idiot has lost all grip on reality - he can't even tell when he's clearly being TROLLED by Helwani.. Does he honestly think there was NEVER any Front kick in any of the numerous Martial Arts out there until he invented then perfected one over the years ??? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ray Staff Seagal said he learned the kick many years ago and modified it over the years. So, it's not like Seagal said that there was no kicking in martial arts until he showed up on the scene. Steven has his own variations, at least according to the video.
"Steven Seagal has added a lot of things, but I have been training that kick ever since I started training any striking at all" ~ Anderson Silva Seriously, claiming to have created the front kick is ridicules, it's like saying I invented a straight right punch.
I understand Segal here, I remember when I showed Muhammad Ali my version of the jab I'd been perfecting for decades. It was a tough technique but I thought he could handle it, Ali was an athletic man.
Seagal and Ariel are exactly how that old mma cartoon of the Diaz bros adventures. Couldnt remember what its called but type Diaz bros Cartoon or something and you will see this video perfect on that videos.
I give Ariel serious props for keeping it together during this interview. There's no way that I'd be able to keep a straight face listening to "Sensei".
"....Learned it 30 or 40 years ago in Japan..." Silva "sent me a letter.... (after saying he didn't remember how he met him..)." Judo, karate, kickboxing, mma require precision in thought and deed. Do SS make things up? "He do, he do, I know he do."
About the ridicule about the "front kick" :))) Segal really helped Machida and Silva with this punch. He showed them one of the options for the strategic implementation of this, showed an aspect. What has been confirmed in practice - two knockouts with this particular punch from two different fighters after work with Segal. Before that, they did not have this. Not a coincidence, but an obvious fact! Therefore, later did not spread much about this, which is understandable - sport and business requires the rules of the game and they need to promote what brings them profit and image.
I think that somewhere, the meaning of what Silva and Seagal were trying to say has been lost. It's not that Silva couldn't throw a front kick before or that Seagal "invented" the front kick, but Seagal helped him with some of the details on the particular variation of front kick that he uses, and he greatly appreciated that.
I like Seagal's reaction to the question about engaging "The word we have for that in the fight community is something is inappropriate for mainland publication". Like he's some sort of big shot trainer LOL
Aikido does not rely on choreographing, it relies on learning how to ROLL, so you don't get hurt by your partner. Aikido was developed as a way of defending oneself without hurting the other person. Aikido takes the bulk of its techniques (which where then modified) from Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu which was developed by Minamoto no Yoshimitsu who was a Samurai during the Heian period and used in ACTUAL combat in feudal Japan.
