ASICS NOVABLAST 2 Long Run Review
Today I tested the NOVABLAST 2 over the 10 mile or 16.1km distance in some mostly dry conditions in some slightly cooler yet still humid summer weather.
A 8:09/mi or roughly 5:00/km pace on todays run keeping things at a steady aerobic effort as i was rather tuckered out after lots of speed work this week.
I discuss the upper, midsole and outsole performance on todays totally different route to the regular long run test path. Lots of elevation and a tasty hill climb or 3 at the end of the run!
How do you find the Novablast 2 over such routes? A good long run shoe or too unstable for such purposes? Let me know in the comments.
Hold tight people, stay strong and we WILL make it through.
Keep it nice in the comments please, i do not do unpleasant, its just ..... unpleasant. See you in the digital ones and zeros......

I can’t believe that you are almost apologizing for an 8 minute 10 miler. Dude that is an awesome time and one I have no hope of achieving. Nice work! (Btw i stopped caring about times on my runs long ago. Much like you I just care about my heart rate and if I can finish strong rather than fast) but that’s just me…14 miles today and feeling great 👍

Back from sports physiotherapist after experiencing knee pain when using NovaBlast v2, after taking a look at the shoe she told me not to run in it ever again! I think your assessment is spot on, any break down in form, however slight, poses an injury risk….l consider them a wiz-bang…..wow these are amazing…oh shit my knees buggered! Awesome honest reviews Ed.

The Deviate Nitro is usually a pretty solid shoe for long runs, I've done up to 20 miles in them, they are perhaps still a little on the squashy/soft side in my opinion - which was nice at the time because my legs needed the softness and a break from firmer landings.

Interesting perspective Ed. I have no experience with the A.N. 1 or 2. Other reviewers felt the AN2 solved the instability problems which were the main complaint about the AN1. They cited it as an outstanding improvement and daily trainer this year. This is why I like to hear from multiple reviewers. My current daily trainer is the Hoka Mach 4 and I really love it. Thanks for your review on this shoe. Call me silly, but since I have the S Endorphin Speed and Pro, I decided to get the Shift to complete the box set. It is arriving this Tuesday. Since I have a very narrow foot and high arches, the Shift may be just fine for me. Some like it, some don't. In the end, if the shoe fits, wear it...

I had the exact same experience in my Nova 1. Friends who run along flat areas along a river bank and foreshore love the shoe. My area is hilly and the shoe was absolutely terrible. Fantastic for getting up the hill but god aweful on the back and knees coming down. The high drop plus the super springy foam felt like I was running in high heels with springs in them. If anything the energy return going down hill is too much! I know you didn't like the peg 37 but my peg 37 ate up the hills around here. No pain anywhere! My next purchase will definitely be the peg 38. Too bad they are heavier but from what I have seen it's a peg 37 but better!

I like my Novablast 2 so far and have used it for three 13 miler training runs which I run in about 1:40h each. However, I think I like the Boston 10 even more. I‘ve used the Boston 10 from 10k tempo runs up to long runs. It‘s also a more stable shoe then the Novablast 2.
@saramims1592

I am going on 300 miles in the Novablast v1. I love the bounce/energy return but definitely want more stability starting between 8-10 miles. Most mileage in a single run in these shoes is 16 and I was wishing for some guiderails at that point! I'm currently looking for a long run shoe and will finish off Novablasts via my daily 6 mile runs. I live in a hilly area and your comments I relate to totally in my v1s.

I’ve taken the Deviate Nitro’s on a half marathon run, and it performs well. Lots of cushion and energy return, but at around 10 miles, the heel area felt like it became too soft and unstable. Part of that could have been my form breaking down. I had to adjust myself and get back up on my forefoot. Otherwise, I found it to be a great shoe for those long distance runs.

I just bought the Novablast 2 yesterday! I'm currently just rotating between the Invincible Run and Pegasus 38. Invincible run is wearing down. I figured these will be perfect for the rotation (and eventual replacement for the Invincible Run when it's time to retire them). Hoping these last me until spring when all the new shoes come out.

The invincible outsole seemed to wear quickly. NB2 on flat conditions should be fine. Provides you with a good soft cushion to the more firm peg38.

I had some fun with the Nova Blast 1 and I wanted to love it. But since I overpronate that shoe was in the end a bit of waste of energy for my ankles and ankles stabilizers. A shoe that I really loved this year from Asics was the GlideRide 2 . And because of that I need to try the EvoRide 2 as well once my Pegasus "tank " 38 dies . Great video !
@powell.christopher
@powell.christopher 2 года назад
I am considering the GlideRide 2 as a long run shoe (half marathon distance for now). I am a bit afraid of the weight and rigidity but lots of people seem to like it. What is your impression of it on longer runs?
@MiracleWarriors

@@powell.christopher my long runs goes up to max of 12km . And I liked alot the GlideRide 2 besides the fact it is almost as heavy as a Nimbus but the way it was built ( GlideRide 2) I feel less tired ... but since I overpronate I feel I could run even better with the GL2 if it has a tiny better support for my arch. Holy cows 😲.. Edd. I have retired my old Novablast OG and just came back from a 10-miler in my new pair of Novablast Pixel Noise version. I can tell you this is a completely different pair, superb lock-down almost racer like with different upper and a very subtle midfoot cage. Had to use runner's knot on the OG due to slippage but did away with the Pixel Noise. I hope you can try this, I am amazed. Will skip the NVBlast2 due to the added weight but again if I see them heavily discounted...

Ay bud, I can relate. I did a run swim run and i was struggling with just doing 2 miles today. Using the mach 4 trying to stay in front of the young guys they went past me and I was thinking the whole time... maybe I should get the novablast 2 or brought my razor elite instead... nevertheless, I made it. Time to ice, work, then rest.

I've mostly used my Novablast 2 for tempo runs on superflat terrain (Moscow river embankment). They're fun and bouncy. Decided to try them on a 14-miler on Sunday. After about ten miles I got the sense that they were taking more than they were giving; I had to drop my pace to keep my heart rate under 135. The fun bounciness had turned into a kind of squishiness. The fit also started to feel weird, almost like my foot was sliding forward in the front of the shoe. Maybe I went a half-size too big. Also, later in the day my right heel pain returned for a few hours (mild plantar fasciitis). Not 100% sure it was the shoe's fault, but who knows. So, alas, I don't think the Nova 2 is the best long run shoe.

I agree with the comment about gait. I'm a not-quite-neutral runner and the v1s gave me ankle pain after about 6 miles. The v2s are better, but around mile 8 or 9 (as you say, later in the run when the form is perhaps worsening) I'm getting some ankle pain again which I don't get in my NB 1080v11 or my Nike Invincibles. I simply don't think these work for me. That all said, the Dynablast (with the supposedly massive 12mm drop!) work perfectly for me, but they are nowhere near as squishy.

This or Mach 4 for daily trainer/long run?
@EDDBUD
@EDDBUD 2 года назад
Hmmm. Mach 4 quite a bit lighter. Not as grippy. For a daily the Mach 4 could be a reasonable firmer less compressive option.

Maybe soon. Not high on my list to try at the moment. Too many others to grind down in the rotation.

Hard to say all of that without actually trying it. Shoe looks are last on my list.
