I like this. In sales and marketing, the best driver of interest and uncovering needs is asking questions but I’m disappointed in them laughing when he tried to engage. Instead of laughing they could have just helped him restate the question or give an example of furthering dialogue. Like, “you seemed a bit hesitant. Trying asking the customer ‘what is the vision you have for your site.’”

one of my tutors once told me: "any compromise you do, it represents the quality of your next client". Asking all the questions that the project deserves even if it requires you to educate/teach your client is the way forward .

I learned to ask questions from clients/classmates since high school. Otherwise, when the product comes in, the clients are going to ask for revisions. There would be so many things to redo that you would save a lot of time if you just asked questions.

Depends where you are for this, plenty of areas they would laugh at you for a $5k logo and never talk to you again. Asking questions to start is good though, cause you can determine what kind of budget they might have

I would have crushed this conversation. Been doing design for 30 years. I would have gotten to do his logo, website, social media and any print he needed. Might even gotten an app going depending on the type of business.

Agree but also I learned early on sometimes a customer emotionally just wants a logo for now. Give them the logo then sell the the website later. Otherwise they may go somewhere else for the services.

if you want a website without a visual identity.. good luck - logo is the beginning of every good visual communication. But you are right for the principle.

So it's the same in selling cars. I used to sell cars as of last week, lol. We have to drive the conversation bc all customers are the same when buying a car. I've been in sales for over 34 years and the majority of them have the same pattern.

We need to understand the prospects intent with reaching out to is and delve into finding the problems the prospect has. Diagnose, prescribe, reapply the remedy as needed.

What do you suggest for clients that are intimidated or even irritated by lots of questions?

You should strive to work with people who are interested in you the way you are to them. If they get irritated by the questions, tell them that the only way you can help them is when you truly understand their challenges. If they still aren't interested in answering any questions, you get to decide if they are a good fit for you or not.

@@emanuel_soundtrackI know customers like that, "just do 1 more little thing, oh and 1 more thing,.. and while you are there, just take a look at that thing. What's the matter?!! It's just 1 little thing!?!". Death by a thousand cuts. I know it's easier said than done, but limit how much time and attention you give and to whom. It's not pleasant to filter out those who wouldn't mind wasting time and those who have good reason to ask a lot of questions. One method is to listen for how much ego is on display during the conversation. Are the stories, subjects, topics and emotions either exclusively Negative, Positive or setup in such a way where Your Money and Work would solve the main issue,.. and further than that, will you be the dick for standing up for yourself. The harder or more important something is to say or do,. The quicker you should.

That largely depends on the service or the product you’re providing. Generally speaking a good place to start is “what are you trying to do with (product)?” Or “what is your goal/what are you trying to accomplish with (service)?”

When someone is willing to shell out 5k, 45k, or more, and you think that's silly before even speaking to the customer (and also providing timeframes without fully understanding what the customer is looking for) ...then that customer is probably not for you.

It depends upon the company, if google wants a logo redesign, imagine their budget. It would be 10 of thousands of dollar if not hundreds

I've got multiple websites that ive bought as templates that produce great income. One of them profited over $110,000 last year and was bought for $59. The logo I paid $100 from a website to create and give me rights to. Put your money into your service and product. Not on logos and cool websites. That's what people want

I was looking for this comment, your website and logo just needs to be decent, I don't think that if you pay $5000 for a logo it is going to bring as much value over a 100$ logo. Your website is just your store front, the service and the customer experience is what matters. the content on your website is more important that how fancy your website looks.

Get really good at asking open ended questions. Always have the client's best interest as priority. Structure each engagement with clients to be a win, win scenario. It's important to be fair and good to ourselves as well as to the client.
