AT Thru Hike Day 126: High Point Shelter to Vernon, NJ

Today’s hike of 18.9 miles was filled with of surprises. First, I got a call from Hawkeye telling me that he had new boots which are very supportive of his ankles and that he was ready to rejoin me. Immediately after, I saw my first bear of the trip. Thankfully I saw mostly its back end as it was running away. Finally, the last few miles were along a raised boardwalk through some marshland that was incredible.

Great to see that you are back together and that Hawkeye feels good to go now. Today's video is beautiful; I especially liked to see the first few minutes when you started the day from High Point Shelter. When I did this section last year, we were stuck in fog and got a humongous storm early in the monirng. You would not believe how deep and wide was the stream on 4:24! Great views today!

I have to watch for Poison Oak, Ivy, and Sumac which is real bad!! Glad you didn't have to encounter the aggressive Bear! I am glad you are hiking again with your son again, answered prayers!! Great views on here! Great video!!

I am so glad that Hawkeye has been reunited with you. I tend to roll my ankles very easily. It was really bad when I played high School basketball. We discovered it was the way I walked. Once we started taping my ankles, the problems seem to quit. After that I got high top shoes to play ball and also make sure I have high top shoes to hike. I hope the higher tops are the solution for Hawkeye as well.

I would have given anything for some good, old-fashioned prewrap and athletic tape, but the new boots seem to be doing the trick.
