6:52 The reason the shot looked like that for that specific scene is because... (POSSIBLE SPOILERS) Cregger was inspired by a 1983 Austrian film called Angst, which followed a serial killer being released from prison and acting out his fantasies. It's a very twisted movie, but they filmed it with a Snorricam which gave it that weird perspective look. A camera was just rigged to his body and it felt as if were literally stuck to this individual and can't look away. Cregger liked this look so much because it gave this creepy, alien-like vibe to the character, and he wanted to replicate it for Frank since his character is quite despicable.

I didn’t mind the “go pro” scene at all. When the movie cut to an almost dreamlike experience with friendly people, the wide angle lens created a feeling of unease. Basically giving the impression that something is not right in this bright and happy environment.

When the “cut” happens in the movie, some will love it and some will hate it. I loved it. But it will be divisive.

First 2 thirds were very creepy, but the third act definitely started to lose me a little. I heard someone on the way out complaining that the end half was stupid and ruined the movie. Slightly agree on that, but overall I definitely enjoyed it.

@luckyDancer100

I felt like Justin Long’s character did a heal-face-turn when it came to the ending. He had kind of a moment of introspection in that homeless man’s shelter where he said, am I a good person who does bad things or just a bad person? I thought that was going to lead to some self-sacrificial moment but the movie totally reneged on that in favor of him doubling-down on who he was.
@kruksog

Have you seen Smile? That's a good movie that was ruined by a terrible 3rd act. I certainly don't think Barbarian ruined the movie with the 3rd act like Smile did. Whether that's a meaningful argument for you or not is up to you, but I thought Barbarian was great. The only reason I'm making this comment is because I'm a big horror fan and I'm trying to stand up for what I think was a well-done film. Nothing is ever going to be for everyone, but if you think this film failed the third act... I just kind of disagree.

as someone that had an EXTREMELY harrowing event happen in my childhood involving my grandmother’s basement (lest just say that she was a sadistic, abusive wretched thing and i hope that she’s rotting in the deepest, darkest bowels of Hell!) and also very much enjoying horror movies, this movie was surprisingly fun to watch, and i agree with your assessment of it…totally worth the watch! keep on rockin’, brother!

What happened?
@jeffgreiner4007
@jeffgreiner4007 Год назад
@@imranjunaid12, ok, you asked... it is lost to me what it was that i had even done...i remember it started with my name being shrieked through her house, echoing down hallways and up stairs, making my hackles stand straight..when she found me, cowering behind her couch, she started hitting me with a broom until i came out from there. she grabbed me by the ear and neck, and dragged me through her kitchen, around the corner to her pantry door...that lead down to her basement...slapped me, and shoved me down the stairs. before i could get up, she slammed the door, locked it, and turned off the light. i spent the next 8 hours down there...watched the sunlight disappear through the little windows...the musty smell of earth and dried flowers... i was 6... the things that i saw, either being a juvenile imagination or supernatural, are burned into my memory...at some point i fell asleep... i woke up to the key in the lock fumbling around and the door flying open... it was my mother, with a twisted look of horrified sadness and intense rage, scooping my limp ass up, a whirl of kisses and apologies, taking me out of that hell... she never said anything to my grandmother on the way out, neither did she say anything to either me or my mother, just smiled the most evil smile i've ever seen even to this day...i never stayed with my grandmother by myself again...and that incident was never spoken of again, and, the few times i tried was always met with a glare, a knowing look that said "DROP IT, NOW!"... i did not mourn her passing... indeed, i was relieved...a part of me could heal... but, i will NOT approach a basement without lights being on and with the door out braced open... that is the story...could be made into a movie, probably somewhere IS a movie, lol...

My scariest basement experience is in real life happening right now where my basement is leaking. I don't know where its coming from. I am worried it might mess up my stuff in the basement, worried that I will have to tear down part of the celing and floor of my kitchen and worried that it might cost a fortune.

This movie definitely had me at first, but the more I think about it, the more I really gotta disagree with the characters doing things that were "logical." Aside from the many instances later on where I was thinking "Why would you do that?," "Why would they say that?," "Really - NO one thought that was weird??", the very beginning of the movie just makes zero sense to me: Who on earth - especially a single female - would choose to stay with an unknown stranger at an Air BnB that's in a terrible area? Like even if all the hotels are booked, that's absolutely a situation where you would just say "Oh well" and just drive back to where you came from. Shoot, I'd even choose to crash at the local police station before I did that. Can't see a lot of these decisions ever being made by real people

I liked this movie until the Justin Long character came back to the house....then it got down right stupid. The fact that his character had this nice looking house in the middle of one of the worst neighborhoods in Detroit, but either didn't know it was that bad or didn't care....that was just unbelievable to me. When Long's character finds the secret passage and torture room, yet gleefully measures the rooms/hallway...the movie had been suspenseful and tense, but suddenly it shifted to an attempt to be funny? This movie could have been so good, but ended up being a major strike out.
@Bakeman3000
@Bakeman3000 Год назад
Well it was one of his "many" properties... he only owned it for income... The scene with the wealth advisor kind of explained that. He wouldn't make enough money from selling it, so it was basically the one he decided to keep. And then yeah, that part was supposed to be funny... this douchebag of a character isn't going to have the same concerns as a normal female would about that basement.. he is obviously only concerned about the money he can get, so all that extra space = $$$$$ To each their own tho, I aint trying to convince you of anything, just pointing out the reasoning.

SPOILERS!!! I thought it was a horrible idea to kill off Keith half an hour into the movie and replace him with AJ, to the point where it essentially ruined the rest of the movie for me. I loved the chemistry between Tess and Keith because at first they were both extremely skeptical of each, but throughout the first half hour they start to trust each other more and open up. As soon as Keith died, there’s an entire 20 straight minutes dedicated to someone who’s never been introduced before and on top of that is incredibly unlikeable throughout the entire movie. I think it would’ve been much more beneficial story-wise to keep Keith alive and not have AJ in the movie at all. This way, the story wouldn’t come to a grinding halt for 20 to 30 minutes introducing a new character and when Tess goes back to save Keith near the climax of the movie, she would have a reason to go back and help him aside from “there’s a man down there who’s in danger”.
@MChill
@MChill Год назад
*SPOILERS* I'd say that was definitely the point. Tess and Keith's relationship was actually based in something so many relationships lack: trust. Were they awkward around each other? Absolutely. But they realized the other person was genuine, even if they didn't always know what to say. It was easy to root for Tess and Keith. Compare that to AJ, who is a scumbag. He only cares about himself and his image, so if he had to throw others under the bus (or, in Tess' case, off a roof) to preserve his good name, he was willing to do that in a heartbeat. He didn't give a shit about anybody except himself, which was why his death was so satisfying.

Ultimately it kind of sucked. I liked the set up and the subversion of expectations and the idea behind it. The performances were very good in the first bit. Justin long was great. However, once we actually got to the "scares" they were pretty poorly done and there were too many moments the characters were too conveniently stupid in their decisions. The movie had a lot of things to say about what a monster is and I think it communicated that well but it just wasn't scary at all and turned goofy to the point where I was just left thinking "so what?" To be fair I just finished playing Resident Evil VIII and my bar was high for scares and monster design.
