I like how Phelan somehow manages to get even more disdainful with each new Beauty and the Beast video.

Just when Phelan thought he was out of Beauty and the Beast , he gets pulled back in.

The voice work for Beast is so silly in this one I can barely distinguish the real thing from Phelous' satirical reading.

9 Beauty and the beasts, 5 Hunchback of Notre-dames, 3 Anastasias, and strangely only 1 of each for Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. I am kind of surprised the others don't get as much.

I love that every time Phelan sees a raccoon in any of these cartoons, he thinks of Wabuu.

Voice mixing on James Earl Jones lines is already proving legendary, please randomly insert 'failure' every few months.

You know, viewing all these Beauty and the Beast adaptations makes me appreciate the Disney animated adaptation more and more.

Man, looking back, The Goodtimes version is like freaking DISNEY quality, compared to everything we've seen after them.

_"I find your art style... disturbing."_ Every time someone says a cartoon cannot be a bad actor, I like to point them to one of these Beauty and the Beast movies, where seemingly the only character able to have an expression is Old Man.

Phelous, I know you make a lot of sarcastic asides about how the viewers don't care about the little details (from figurine variants to company history) that you talk about before getting into the nitty gritty, but I just want to say that your passion for these completely silly bootleg stories -- perhaps more passion than the people working on them had themselves -- makes this sort of thing fascinating. It must take a lot of time, digging up these facts to share with us, and I just wanted to say that I appreciate it. Maybe I can't remember my dad's birth year, but now I can tell people with confidence that Little Golden Book had a He-Man video, and it's all thanks to you!

I was *literally* just watching the Ruby-Spears one earlier today hoping our BATB king would soon return and here we are! At long last, we get the James Earl Jones-narrated version featuring the weirdly colorful Beast & middle-aged looking Beauty!

One day Phelous will find the last Beauty and the Beast animated adaptation and will finally be free of this nightmare world.

Ah, another "Beauty's dad" for the collection. 2022 is sure off to a good start.

I actually think the cut-out face thing is a unique and memorable way to show a dream sequence, as it takes advantage of animation as a medium. It'd look SUPER unsettling in live action, but animators have a ton of leeway when it comes to symbolism and suspension of disbelief. Too bad the rest of the movie doesn't have the same creativity, though.

Kind of surprised they didn't use James to voice the Beast. Sure, he makes a terrific narrator, but something about Michael York's voice (which is still very distinctive) just doesn't seem to fit that design.

When are we getting the "Into the Old-Manverse" movie?

By now, how would people rate the animated BatB features that Phelous has reviewed? In order from what I consider the worst to the best: 1.Golden Films Beauty and the Beast (looks like a cheap ad and features the three braindead ghosts) 2.Bevanfield Beauty and the Beast (dreary, depressing and wastes Christopher Lee) 3.DEFA Beauty and the Beast (the ugly elephant-man beast gave me nightmares as a child) 4.Burbank Beauty and the Beast (just forgettable) 5.Golden Book Beauty and the Beast (they should have stuck to books) 6.Ruby-Spears Beauty and the Beast (I grew up with R-S cartoons, so they get a nostalgia bonus) 7.Grimm Meisaku Gekijou Beauty and the Beast (suffers from being compressed to hell) 8.Britannica Beauty and the Beast (anything introduced by Pat Morita can't be that bad) 9.Good Times Beauty and the Beast (brought us Old "Weeeeeheeeehee" Man, 'nuff said)

It has to be said, it's a real testament to your comedic writing/performing/editing that even after umpteen variations of a single story, I laughed harder watching this one than almost any other video of yours. Hope you continue to hone your craft, and I'll still be watching you in one form or another in 20 years.

It's sad when you realize Michael York did a better job acting in The Land Before Time VII than he did in either Puss n Boots or Beauty and the Beast (Golden Books Version)... also Michael York really knows how to pick animated film roles.

I've always been interested in a version of this story that takes place in modern times. That would imply the Beast was stuck in that castle for centuries before Beauty showed up, which would make the true love message more meaningful.

You know... I'm usually not against celebrity voice-actors (especially if they're actual actors), but hearing James Earl Jones slumming it is still depressing af. Also, why don't they ever let them voice the beast?

The weirdest thing Golden Books Home Video probably ever released was the first two episodes of Toxic Crusaders. You know, the environmental kid's show based on the hard R rated indie film where a kid gets his head crushed by a truck? Also, why the hell does the Beast speak with the same vocal infliction as Bane? I can't be the only one that noticed that.

One of these days, I'd like to see Phelous do a tier list for characters called or referred to being beautiful or handsome. I know beauty is subjective but I'm sure we can all admit when actual effort is put into it compared to others.

I actually watched that one with Big Bird as a kid. Kinda want to see the Masters of the Universe one just for kicks.

I just watched Jean Cocteau's La Belle et la Bête, and a lot of the scene compositions in this Beauty and the Beast look similar to that movie. I wonder if they used that film as a reference or directly traced the frames. It's really bizarre how close they look. Look at the scenes inside of Beauty's house, the dining room in the castle, and the long hallway the Beast stands in; they're like direct copies from La Belle et la Béte. Might also explain the weird scene composition sometimes, trying to translate a live action scene to animation without much use of perspective or shading. Edit: After seeing their costumes later in this video, I'm almost certain they used Cocteau's film to make this one.

Oh man, the editing of the character voice lines made for some great jokes in this one. Almost like a mid-2010s youtube poop after they really figured out sentence mixing well, while still sticking to your usual comedy style. It was incredibly entertaining. With the heavy dream factor in this review, I was expecting a return of THE NIGHTMARE BECOMES REALITY gag, but I guess it's been lying dormant for too long now. Oh well.

It’s not a Beauty and The Beast video without Old Man and his money swindling ways

I'm amazed that they somehow got James Earl Jones to narrate this story. I never watched any of the Golden Books videos, but some of the covers looked oddly nostalgic to me.

The only notable thing from this Beauty and the Beast to me, besides the Beast's ridiculous design, it's that it used the same public domain music as Chespirito's shows. Not gonna lie, I kinda liked that.

Man, one day Phelous will find some forgotten VHS of Beauty and the beast from Chechnya or something...

15:01 I'd like to see an adaptation where the Beast asks if Beauty will be his wife when she returns, and she says she'll think about it and talks to her father about the Beast's proposal. It'd actually show that Beauty has at least considered it herself, if not developed some affection for the Beast. Furthermore, it could make her father, (or her family, if they care about her,) more desperate to get Beauty to stay.

Michael York’s highly enunciated singing as Puss has a touch of exuberance to it. I’m sure he enjoyed at least some of that voice work.

No matter the quality, it's always fun to see these bigger named actors involved on these projects. If you ever wanted to hear a rendition of Beast voiced by Townsend Coleman (Michelangelo in TMNT 1987) and Beauty voiced by the late Russi Taylor (Minnie Mouse since the 80's), they're in an adventure game called King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow (1992), which featured a lot of fairy tale references in general. It even has Robby Benson (voice of the Beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beat from 1991) as the protagonist, Prince Alexander.

I don't know why I love watching these reviews so much, it's always the weirdest, most obscure kids VHS', but I look forward to every new Video!
