As much as that tech is crazy, what with the guard flying and such, I really hope its toned down in 5 if not gone. Guard flying imo looked goofy, despite its usefulness.
@@Gunzerkingidiot I know there's a lot of stuff in DMC that maybe wasn't intentional or not depending on how you look at it (jump canceling and the gun switching in 3) or really kind of are built around exploiting stuff in the game. HOWEVER, guard flying I totally agree on. It looks ridiculous and there's no way that's what the creators intended for it to be used for. It's never even seemed that stylish to me, it's just a weird game breaking tactic. Thankfully you don't really have to master it to have fun, but the skill lock being almost entirely dependent on taking advantage of abusing mechanics just doesn't seem like a path to follow for the development on 5.
Well, someone doesn't know his Styles. When changing Styles frequently it doesn't say "ROY" or "DARK", it says "GUARD" and "CHANGE". Also, in Dark Slayer Dante never says the name, he just says "GET SET!".
Gilgamesh LOOKS hella cool but I honestly think it's the weakest of the fist weapons in terms of moveset's. The entire time I used Gilgamesh I was just thinking 'Man, I miss Beowulf.'
@@KojirotheQuick Doesn't Gilgamesh have all of Ifrit's moves? And there are only three fist weapons for Dante too, so it would at least be second best with that logic.
@sozcan I don't mean in terms of damage, I mean in terms of movesets. Gilgamesh might do a hell of a lot of damage with the distorted real impact shit but it doesn't feel nearly as fun as Beowulf was with it's Million Punchs, The Hammer and being able to do Tatsumaki out of Real Impact. And in this series for me, Fun > Damage.
It still boggles my mind that it took the Order so long to clue in that the kid with a rebellious nature, with supernatural weapon skill, a DEEP NEED for style and white hair was a Son of Sparda. THEY EVEN HAVE DANTE TO COMPARE!

I personally think this is most certainly what went down in my head cannon because Vergil and Dante never had "the talk" so Vergil just improvised like Dante and it worked because of that Sparda blood.

I'm pretty sure the reason Dante and Vergil are so good at mastering weapons and fighting styles is because they grew up fighting each other constantly while Nero only knows how to use one weapon because that's all he's ever needed.
@@MrShadowsetzer I wanna say that too but until I see other demon character multitasking weapon types too then I can't really find that argument valid.. As far as I know Trish can only use sparda and magic, Nero only knows how to use Red Queen and Blue Rose, Sparda can use swords and guns, and all of them also have demon blood 2 of them having the same demon blood as Dante and Vergil even. Edit: I forgot Trish also uses guns
I was always under the impression that Vergil loses Beowulf instead of him throwing it away. Given that he falls off that cliff when Temen-Ni-Gru turns into party mode.
I always read Dante's complete overpoweredness not only as the fact that he was Sparda's seed but also a culmination of his experience from past games. Not to mention the fact that he and Vergil immediately become masters of any weapon they get is just cool.
I kind of figured Nero would represent Royal Guard. He is shown in cutscenes blocking attacks with his devil bringer, in combat he can use an enemy as a shield and in some boss fights when a boss uses certain attacks Nero can counter their attack with a well timed buster. Just a thought.
@@FoxNinja4000 You're not wrong. As a boss, Virgil did block and use Royal Guard in both DMC 1&3, and Nero is his kid. However, game play wise, since they went with Darkslayer instead of Royal Guard for Virgil, and Lady and Trish were added much later, Nero struck me as kind of his own style.
Since Dante can do two Air Hikes while devil-triggered, it's possible to jump onto Echidna's upper half when she's in her stationary 'pod-squirting' phase and do a lot of damage with impunity (the upper part of her doesn't attack, and I think you can stun her, allowing for even more free hits).

Dante uses magic bullets that's why he doesn't need to reload so I always assumed that single shot kill is just him putting a lot of power into the shot, and that as he always is outside of cutscene he's hold in back with normal shots to make fights last longer and have more fun.
A note about Dance Macabre: I don't quite know how accurate this is (since I have no hard proof) but I feel that when an enemy is very low on health, when you start it (or somewhere in the middle of the Dance Macabre combo), they take less to no damage until the final hit. I feel like the game changes the damage values for style, because killing an enemy in the middle of Dance Macabre isn't as fun as lifting them up and then baseball swing it. Then again, it could be that when I played DMC4 I got really good at measuring health and Dance Macabre damage *shrugs*
Y'all have to do a lady run on bloody palace. Her charged shotgun shells and grenade drop normal are amazing. She is what a resident evil style character would have been.
Using the Street Fighter character type analogy; if Nero was a _grappler_ like Abel, then Dante would be a _rushdown_ like Cammy with a splash of Ken thrown in for good measure. Fitting, considering Reuben Langdon voices both 😏.

30:25 That's what my theory was for the longest time! Human body utilizing demon power condensely. That and whenever Dante says his humanity is his strength I think of it as literal. As if the youthful human side of him has something that actually amplifies his demon side in some way, and keeps his demonic side in check. His recent (and hated) DMC5 theme reinforces that theory, if you listen to the lyrics it actually tells you straight forward that he's been having issues. He's gotten older, and his youthful human body/his bright humanity side is starting to lose it's grip with it's demonic side. Just my theory.
I believe that the idea of half humans being stronger may be a Japanese thing because i see it in a few series I know, like DBZ. If its not then it's now my headcannnon for the country.
That could be reinforced by the DT originally planned for him in the 3142 art book, where in the final evolution it has a similar look to majin from 2 but more bestial and the descriptions state dante becoming more feral with heavy reliance/frequent usage

I implore EVERYONE who loves some good old fashioned DMC4 combo-pron, to look up a guy on RU-vid, goes by Donguri990, you will see a great showcase of what Woolie is talking about with Guard Flying in any of his combo videos that showcases Dante.
So they didn't mention that Lady's voice actress was changed in the Special Edition, including the scenes with the old actress (DMC3's actress Kari Wahlgren), something I really don't like. Her old voice sounded much better, which can be accredited considering she's got quite a rep in the industry. Look up her profile.
A comment I found on reddit: Kari Wahlgren is in the actor's union, so if Capcom only went with no-union VAs for this, she may not have been available to be hired due to contract issues. Or she could've simply declined the job due to her schedule. It could be any reason, really. One thing's for certain though - CAPCOM doesn't spare budget when it comes to big titles.

You can disable the Chimera enemies by shooting them a bunch, they will visually shatter and you can just go ham on them. Didn't figure that out until I played through this area on DMD as Dante.
Dante doesn't need lessons. I'm pretty sure it's outright said in some weapon files that demon arms do give their users innate knowledge of how to use them.
While Pat and Woolie are under the impression that Dante never trained in any martial arts or "did stuff" to attain his combat prowess (and that it was merely an innate "devil" thing), we should probably remember that Dante and Vergil were trained in swordsmanship by Sparda as soon as they were able to walk, and that Dante spent his teen and young adult years as a notorious mercenary, further developing his skills in swordplay while developing an appreciation for firearms. So while his devil powers certainly accelerated the process beyond human reckoning, he did put in the work, and it didn't just manifest from thin air and kung-fu movies.

If Vergil visited Fortuna and made a kid before DMC3, then it kinda explains his lust for power. "I have a wife and child to protect, I NEED MORE POWER". Considering that Nero said "And if I become a demon, so be it, I will endure the exile, anything, to protect her!" so he's very literally like his dad.
Gilgamesh is my favorite melee weapon in the franchise so far. The highlights and the fact that you can *see* the weapon physically charging up power always make me mark out.
Hey Super Friends, here a fact that you might not know about Gilgamesh. It has a third damage booster option that not many people know about. If you charge and release an attack as soon as the fist/feet start to glow, you will get a damage increase upon release/impact. This option also works on the second charge if you miss the first charge.

HOLY SHIT I'd only ever seen sword man Dante- Ifrit is so freaking cool! The way he slowly draws back to attack and the smoke/air effects while it charges are incredibly stylish!
Guess you don't read the video comments and the subreddit because people have been making that joke since DMC3. It's funny how Woolie had time to read and steal a joke but apparently not enough time to read the gameplay tips everyone has been posting over and over on each episode.
Everyone, like so they see it and not hate themselves later. But Pat, Woolie, y'all missed a Combat Adjudicator back in mission 12. Once you're in the main hall prior to leaving the headquarters , you got to go the route Nero went in mission 09 on the way to the Agnus fight.
