It also shows a bit of their doctrine, they fight against oppressors while shielding the weak, the shield is obvious, the hammer is meant to bash and brutalize any oppressors in front it's not made to cut down the un armored like a sword, or to go through the gaps like a spear, no its purely to break though the armor to turn it into a tomb

Hammers don't require finesse, you don't wield them like a sword, you don't do fancy moves, you just hit the problem as hard as possible. who needs fancy shields hwen you have armor, and enough primitive cannons to overwhelm the highest tech shields with just pure brute force. If that fails, the even bigger blunter weapon comes out, the nuke. Why use finesse to go from one place to another? just mash the 2 places together, rip a hole and go through. Why mine for materials? just take the entire planet rip it to shreds and throw enough raw power at it to do whatever you want with what's left. They casually mention they have Dyson spheres, take the most dangerous thing in a planetary system, cage it, and make the star submit to your will. Tey told the alien don't even try to make us bend to your will, it will not happen. one of our small non combat ships defeated 10 of your best, don't make us get out the big hammers, you won't like what happens. Humans are the children and inheretors of the greatest power/threat the galaxy has known. most alien species have an instinctive genetic fear of them, and it can be seen in the children, the technology they use.

Not communist...post scarcity. Communist would imply that resources are supposedly divided equally. Post scarcity is when dividing of resources is no longer needed as everyone can be provided with everything they "need".

It shouldn't be, because there is no reason to be dividing things in a post scarcity society, but the description of second class citizens who are not allowed to own things, have to live in communal housing and eat low quality food, is exactly what communism's dividing of resources result in. So they are post scarcity communists... as stupid as that is.

The scariest part of all this is how even the human acknowledged how lucky they are to have survived the effects of the nanotech released from the asteroid. I dread to think how many other planets weren't so lucky. And where it came from. I don't think it was explicitly stated that the alien that uplifted humanity was part of the same race that made those nanomachines. There could still be many more contaminated asteroids out there. Waiting.

Ever actually read the book Starship Troopers? Rather than just watched the film? In the book Starship Troopers for example *everyone* could vote, all Citizens had the vote. One could NOT however stand for office unless one had served. In the book everyone had the right to seek service, and a place had to be found for that individual to be able to serve. This did not have to be military service, indeed if one was physically unfit for the military one could not join as the Federation military was VERY picky. No matter how they served though it always involved risk. The Government in the Starship Trooper Universe, at least in the Book (which given Heinlein wrote it in the 60's I for one consider the book Canon over the trash that are the films) is a kind of Egalitarian Democracy with universal Suffrage but without Universal right to stand for office. Essentially the entire society was trashed by a Director and Screenwriter who never actually READ THE FUCKING BOOK.....

@jameson1239 You haven't talked to immigrants from communist countries. IRL, communism is feudalism reborn. In 1952 a series of public lectures on communism was held in San Francisco. The book Marxism Unmasked by Ludwig Von Mises is transcribed from these 9 lectures. The author is among those who left Germany before WW II. He became a significant figure in economic theory. Some of his contemporary rivals (supporters of competing ideas) found his work valuable. If you have an interest in economics Lessons for the Young Economist By Robert P Murphy is a good introduction for the novice. If you are already familiar with the topic, I highly recommend Von Mises writings.

Btw there is no noticeable difference between corruptable human enforcement and uncorruptable alien one, apart from hipothetical possibility, the alien one being much less flexible. Unless you 100% agree with the powers to be, always, for everything and anyone, and you don't stumble in any way on the path of the authority, than you are going to have extremely bad time. Judging that even devoted true ideological communists managed to get in (often fatal) trouble (mostly for being actual ideologist) in every historic example, I fail to see how that is even plauseble.

The math just ain't adding up. It was said "Grain to feed our farm animals, raw materials to build housing and roads. It’s fantastic for recycling.” Then was said "the efficiency was massively reduced to the point we have to use half a dyson sphere just to make a few thousand kilograms of matter...doesn’t matter what kind of material we make, but it requires an obscene amount of power.” So it takes a large percentage of a star's total output to make just a few tons of something. We currently produce around 60 metric tons, 60,000 kg, of trash with only 8 billion people every second. The efficiency wasn't reduced. It was destroyed. This is an overall drain on resources, not an aid. Using that power to mine the star itself for minerals would be a much more efficient use of that energy by several orders of magnitude.

@@fancypantsmanface2445 What I am talking about is the amount of energy the author is using to create an amount of matter. In this case some where around half of a star's total output caught by a Dyson Sphere (for comparison our Sun puts out something like 10 to the 23 power joules per day) to create a few metric tons of material in a day. For a tiny fraction of that energy expenditure you could harvest materials out of that star by the tens of thousands of metric tons per day. So the author has made the process so inefficient that it is actually useless. And the author did say you had to have something to convert to something else. That's why they said it was great for recycling. It wasn't creating something out of nothing. But it would even be more efficient to just dump the trash into the star and let the star vaporize it into it's various materials and then harvest that. Way more efficient in time, energy, and volume than what the author described with their matter conversion.

I mean its a bit big, but if you think about it size does actually make sense for a deep space exploration Vessel. You need a lot of specialists aboard, as well as sailing crew, and of course the crew to support those. Given very long voyage times, possibly years, you want to keep those crew healthy and sane, which means large crew quarters for on board ship, as well as recreational facilities such as say a gym, library, social eating areas and so on. Then you need all the supplies for those people, as well as spares and the engineering crew and maybe parasite ships to be able to maintain a deep space exploration vessel for years without touching Port. And finally you are putting a whole bunch of really valuable, highly trained people, as well as a bunch of really high tech scientific and sensor equipment into a single ship so it makes sense to protect it. After all in our own history unarmed Exploration ships are very recent, within the last 150 or so years (and not even always then). Historically most exploration ships were armed, in fact many were Warships, if small Warships....

Hammers don't require finesse, you don't wield them like a sword, you don't do fancy moves, you just hit the problem as hard as possible. who needs fancy shields when you have armor, and enough primitive cannons to overwhelm the highest tech shields with just pure brute force. If that fails, the even bigger blunter weapon comes out, the nuke. Why use finesse to go from one place to another? just mash the 2 places together, rip a hole and go through. Why mine for materials? just take the entire planet rip it to shreds and throw enough raw power at it to do whatever you want with what's left. They casually mention they have Dyson spheres, take the most dangerous thing in a planetary system, cage it, and make the star submit to your will. Tey told the alien don't even try to make us bend to your will, it will not happen. one of our small non combat ships defeated 10 of your best, don't make us get out the big hammers, you won't like what happens. Humans are the children and inheritors of the greatest power/threat the galaxy has known. most alien species have an instinctive genetic fear of them, and it can be seen in the children, the technology they use.

I believe that rhe economic system would be more realistic if they explained how the Imperium did have money, but phased it out as they gained more and more resources till they could fully implement the current system and become post scarcity.

I suggest you go look up the history of commerce then. Currency, of any kind is actually very recent. For most of our history we have run a barter economy, not one based on currency, which has only been around for a few thousand years. So unlike you, I do not find it far fetched at all, after all money is only a MEASURE of wealth, that measure depends on the society. In ancient Cattle Herding cultures for example wealth was not measured in coin, but in the number of cattle you owned....

So the money is not a form we typically think of today as MONEY, but there you go. So humans concept of money (or currency id you prefer) has evolved over time, but we have had SOME concept of it. Sounds like you need to take a step back and reconsider things. For one, that you MAY HAVE misunderstood my comment. And for another, I left a comment with my opinion. That opinion has nothing to do with you, random Internet stranger.. The universe doesn't revolve around me and it certainly doesn't revolve around you.

Nothing to do with the Red Scare, communism is just that terrible. I know, it kinda sounds good, but it's utterly incompatible with the reality of human nature. That's why communists and socialists keep claiming that it's never been properly implemented.
