Jamie Lee Curtis should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for True Lies. The interrogation scene (when she breaks the glass) alone was worthy of a nomination. She went through a range of emotions in that scene.

Bardo is a movie that is telling a story specific to Mexican culture, and I read it as being specifically intended for Mexican and Mexican-American people. As a white man who is not Mexican, I didn't feel the movie was made for me. And I was totally fine with that. I thought it was visually stunning and I was very moved by it, though not in the way I imagine I would've been if I was part of the culture it was depicting.

I remember when Mantz kept supporting CODA and Perri and Jeff would not be on board until the very end....feels like this is repeating with Jamie Lee Curtis. In all honesty, there's a career narrative for JLC, but Stephanie Hsu's just outstanding, especially on a second viewing, when you catch all the little things. Also...I'm so IN with Hong Chau. Underrated as hell, she was awesome in Driveways and Watchmen.

I think they have made it quite clear multiple times they are picking who they think will get nominated based on what they have seen and what they have heard about other performances from other people they know even though they may have not seen the movie yet themselves. There will be follow up episodes down the road as we get closer to Oscar time where their list will be based entirely on the movies they have seen. I think once we get into January things should become clear but for now just enjoy the conversation.

Despite a star making turn in Triangle of Sadness, Dolly Deleon's Oscar chances might be compromised by a perceived limited screen time. (Still, Beatrice Straight's 5 minute 40 second role in Network won the '75 Oscar.) In the third act, Dolly stands out in front and firebombs the film with an incendiary, fully realized and confident performance that deserves Academy recognition.

My current GoldDerby predictions (as of November 6th): 5. Hong Chau (The Whale) 4. Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once) 3. Jesse Buckley (Women Talking) 2. Claire Foy (Women Talking) 1. Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) Bear in mind that I'm predicting Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans) will get LaKeith'd into Best Supporting, which means I'll get GoldDerby points if Hong Chau ends up nominated even though she's technically my 6. That said, I do still think she's very likely to be nominated. As to the HMs: I don't bet on Carey Mulligan (She Said) for the same reason most people are betting on her, which is the blatant category fraud. I just don't think the Academy voters are gonna stand for that this time. I have a hard time seeing Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Sadie Sink (The Whale) happening because they're both the weaker of the 2 contenders from their respective movies. I mean, I haven't seen The Whale but I have seen Everything Everywhere All at Once and I can't see the argument the Jamie deserves a nomination more than Stephanie, which I think should've been the front-runner to win by this point in the season given the strength of the movie. Janelle Monáe (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) and Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) aren't happening because of the snubs of Ana de Armas and Michael B. Jordan respectively in the 1st movies, which prove the Academy doesn't look at these movies as "acting movies". My 7 (if we include Michelle Williams) will surely be Thusa Mbedu (The Woman King), which I think is a real possibility. Jean Smart (Babylon), Nina Hoss (TÁR) and Vanessa Kirby (The Son) have no business being as high as they are on GoldDerby.

Maybe it’s too “weird” for some but it hits for A LOT of people- especially people of varying cultures raised in America. @TheInSneider Год назад
I really don't see what's cringe about it. Voters vote as much for the actress as they do the character. Are we going to have a category full of Black mothers? I don't think so. Could I blindly put Angela Bassett over Dolly De Leon? No. So I had to choose between Gabrielle and Angela, as I'm not sure there's room for both. You only get 5 slots. So yeah, I think they'll have to choose one Black Mom role over the other. If the discussion was, let's say, Michelle Williams vs Anne Hathaway, those are two White Mom roles, and we'd be having the same conversation. But Williams is running lead. Don't get it twisted. I'm the one predicting multiple nominees of color, from Hong Chau to Dolly. Didn't hear their names come up otherwise. Don't knock my analysis as cringe when it's just math, honesty, a keen eye for talent and an ability to sift through the tea leaves of the race. You're asking me to pretend that race doesn't matter to the Academy when, CLEARLY, it does... so why ignore it?

I would love to see Jamie Lee Curtis for EEAAO and Dakota Johnson for Cha Cha Real Smooth, but I don't think it will happen for them.

@@michaelangelo2192 there's a couple of those default polls of random tv shows that you get that ended last night and they say "view" but they neither show what did I get right or they do disappear from my Lobby. It's a mild OCD for me if they're over I want them gone from my lobby lol.

Anyone that doesnt have JLC 1st or 2nd will be wrong! Does anyone know how the Academy works? Stephanie Hsu will be snubbed for JLC.
