Interesting to say the least, but I'm left wondering what advantage this exercise has over just using one cable with a handle for other than the sake of variety/novelty effect? Does the shoulder work to stabilize much less in this exercise than in the pressdown just described? The video described avoiding external rotation but the pressdown does not occur with external rotation, nor does any triceps exercise I know.

What about a neutral grip on this exercise? Like holding the handle in a neutral position where the thumb is facing away

marvin yep that can be used

Great video again! However, wouldn't it be more beneficial to have his elbows further back than to his sides, so that the Triceps can become more shortened during the ROM of this exercise? Thanks and keep them coming!

@ptcollective 7 лет назад
hkjmn not sure what you mean with further back. Could you explain further please? Thanks
@lewissmudge
@lewissmudge 7 лет назад
Bringing the elbow further behind the body. This would most likely be easier with a single arm version of this movement. My logic in this would be for it to further shorten the triceps during the exercise (as the higher your arm position is, the more lengthened the Triceps become). Thanks and looking forward to yours and Michael's opinion on this.

hkjmn going further back would unlikely shorten the Tricep more but increase the involvement of other muscles I.e the posterior delt being one. Be interesting to see what Michael adds to this
@lewissmudge

Agreed, an isometric contraction of the posterior delts, but I don't think this would be a limiting factor in the movement (e.g. being able to carry on with the set because of fatigue from the posterior delts). Granted, the extra amount of shortening of the Triceps would be minimal, but if you want full range challenge, then I'd argue that doing that slight modification would be better for the Triceps, and then following up with an additional exercise in the more lengthened range (arms above the head). Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply Michael! Yes that would be great! Another issue I've always experienced with Triceps is as the weight increases is shoulder stability (meaning I struggle to exert maximal force from my triceps due to instability in my shoulder). This is especially true with overhead movements. If you could suggest any tips for this that would be great also. Thanks for explaining the resistance profile of the triceps as well. I know this can be altered by standing closer/further away from the cables to match the strength profile, but was unsure of the strength profile specifically for the triceps. Thanks again!

watching this fine gentleman touching your skin put me into a trance. i started to picture you and thomas maw, you were tied up on the shoulder press, he started breathing heavily unable to contain his exciting. you were telling him its okay, he proceeded to kiss your belly going all the way down, while you were holding his fine shinny ginger locks aggressively.
