The translator said the horse has never been shod. That is absolutely bullshit! That horse is very accustomed to being handled and having its hooves checked and trimmed. A horse who has never been shod or trimmed is like a wild horse! They fight and kick and act completely different than this animal. This guy is an out right BSer.
@@NotQuiteSoThinLizzie641 These guys are in South America. Owned, used to people and run free. Others don't have shoes WHEN they find them and bring them in. He's prob older to. Maybe when he was younger he did. A lot of these guys get worked on in the mountain pastures. Been watching them for years and I tend to believe him - that doesn't mean you're not correct 💯 We had 670 acres in Catskill mountains. When they come in you practically have to break them all over again.
1An abcess will always look for a week spot or soft spot to come out. Something as simple as a stone bruise can cause one. I've had a horse that had an abcess and it is not a lack of care that causes them to happen. Yes soaking the hoof in warm water and epsom salts followed by a coppertox dressing will help, but as long as the wound can drain freely it will heal. Abcesses can happen at turnout also

Why not flush it out to help it drain properly? As it is, it appears to be almost completely blocked by debris and other contaminants keeping it from draining effectively.
We didn't see everything. We only saw the very first steps. Of course they're going to treat it more - they even expressed that at the end of the video but they'll probably do more than that. These Horses are not stable kept. Her hooves have never had shoes! These guys run free.

it seems horses hoof and cow hoofs are not treated the same. not having a way to hold the hoof steady makes this so much harder. since its an unshoed horse, it looks like its harder to clean out, too. im surprised you dont expose rhe entire hole and clean it out. why have the horse walk on it and squish it out by walking? it sounds like it would be painful.
It's anything but dry, black and brown ooze came out. How about some painkillers and anti inflammatory treatment. Soak it in a warm foot bath with epsom salts. Flush it with betadyne or iodine/water mix.

Tuff crowd in the comments section for this hoofing. We do wonder why these animals are brought so late to hoof care. Is it accessibility, finances, locale...none are really valid excuses. I bet the owners all have phones. Glad Renato is able to relieve the pain for the horses.
RENATO, given the fact that she's NEVER Had the PROPER CARE TO HER HOOVES, it would've made sense if you'd have given her A local Antistecian for her excruciating pain. Then try to work on her hooves. She's obviously scared for you to even touch it, let alone digging it out with your Very sharp cleaners. It's OBVIOUS THAT THEY'VE IGNORED HER PAIN . YOU SHOULD'VE just brought you hoove Stand to her instead of making her walk any LONGER on that abscess. She has had her feet trimmed before. If she hadn’t, they’d look worse than they do and he would have a hard time picking up her hoof. She may have not had a trim in a while, but she’s had her feet done before.
This hoofer is working very well without tranquilizing her. Animals are very sensitive to anesthesia. I would bet horses are exceptionally risky since they can’t burp or throw up.
Not that I know their situation, but if they waited for this long to call a ferrier, they probably could not afford a vet also just to make the horse less nervous.
In over 50 years of having horses I have Never seen so many desperately lame horses. By looking at these hooves( I’ve watched like 10 vids) these horses do not get regular hoof care. That is sad, if you can’t care for them properly you should not own them. Our little herd of 25 has never had an abscess or been so overgrown. Sad that people treat horses so poorly. This farrier seems to know what to do but again why are so many so bad.
Call a real Vet, who will ease this poor mares pain!! Do what need to be done! No I’ve never had a horse, just common sense!!!! Like others said, something for pain, etc! Poor baby
Honestly, it just looks overdue, not like it's never been trimmed. She didn't act like she had never been trimmed before either. Horses who make it to adult age without ever being trimmed will have MUCH longer feet (unless they are kept in very rocky areas or areas with asphalt or gravel where they can naturally file their own hooves as they walk.) Horses whose hooves have never been trimmed will actually curl up and start growing up and around in a spiral. (It's hideous to see and incredibly painful for the horse/pony.)
He do it weird usually they trim it down to clean out the wound with the tool and with liquid stuff then they glue a board to the bottom of the hoof so there won’t be so much pressure

You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. That horse had relief when that abscess was drained. And that horse would’ve showed way more aggression if it felt in distress.
