This is awesome upon awesome. Just the 10 of us was my second favorite TGIF show. (Next to Perfect Strangers) I liked it better than Growing Pains. I'm SO glad you posted this Bill. Its great to see you're still out there performing. Cant wait to see more from you.
Not sure what "web hole" brought me here, but just wanted to mention to you, Bill, that you were excellent in this series. It had a believable and quirky premise, good writing and the right ensemble cast. It was unfortunately the sunset of the sit-com era, where comedy was soon to be replaced with shock-value and over-charged sexual and racial themes, which is unfortunately why I believe it was canceled too soon. I was just in the tale-end of high school at the time, and I can now openly say that "Just the 10 of Us" was one of my guilty pleasures. I hope all the best for you as you will always be remembered fondly.
Ugh, JTToU was canceled because that damn TGIF lineup wanted Milky, MillerLyte, Broyhillette Poop Productions consistent from the 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. slot. Outside of that, as a YUGE JTToU fan, yeah, this was a VERY weird screen test... even by 80's spinoff standards 😬 So glad the series pickup had Deborah Harmon. She was GREAT foil to the Graham character 💜
@@Patrickontheplanet I think the idea here was just to show Bill off and see if he'd be able to act around people. Pamela Brull, who played his wife here, did make an appearance on the series as a doctor.
It was really three seasons. The first season was only four episodes as a test run. I don't know what they were thinking of when they cancelled this show. It was pretty funny.
Not sure if you'll catch this, Bill, but I did like the show and was saddened that they cancelled it after three seasons. What they were thinking I do not know. The show that replaced it, Going Places, went nowhere, even with a little retooling of its own.
@@sha11235 The story is that the Miller/Boyett people that did many of those TGIF shows (Perfect Strangers, Full House, Family Matters) wanted the 9:30 time slot so they would have all four shows 8-10 and pressured ABC. ABC (apparently) couldn't (or wouldn't) make room for Ten of Us in their schedule. Going Places was definitely a dud and a bonehead move, Seaver, as Coach Lubbock would say.
I just realized the second shot is from your very first appearance on Growing Pains, when you subbed in that French class that Mike was in trying to ask this girl out.
Bill, was the role of Coach Lubbock one the best roles you ever played on TV! I enjoyed seeing you on Just The Ten of Us! The opening lyrics of the theme is how I knew what basketball was and that was I learned what the game meant to people. Thanks!🏀
I like how you guys used part of the " The Seavers " set. Hangin With Mr Cooper did the same thing for their pilot episode. When they used sets from other shows, I think it was because they weren't sure whether pilots would turn into a series and they didn't want to spend money to build a set for a show that would never air
Cool to see that the guy who played Maggie's boss in Growing Pains is also in the screen test. Growing Pains is my favorite sitcom, although Just the Ten of Us comes close. Both were full of witty sly humor, and the characters were fantastic. I hope they release Just the Ten of Us on DVD someday. I always liked your character of the Coach, and enjoyed it very much when you played pretty much the same role on the Clueless TV show later on. I only wished they used you in more episodes.
The shot at 0:08 in the opening credits, you can see Carol Seaver in the pink shirt. I recognize her from the back. I think this clip is from the episode where she meets Bobby and starts a relationship.
This just reminds me of the chemistry between frank Bonner and Bill Kirchenbauer. I have cracked up so hard at the banter between those two. I started watching this show when I was 9 years old on ABC. I’ve boycotted ABC ever since they cancelled it. It remains my favorite tv show til this day. ❤
I also now know that Coach would direct another play for Dewey HS as well-Picnic. Hadn't seen GP in years and since in the Coach's basement where the posters are for the other two shows he directed, didn't see one for Picnic, so that's why it wasn't in my memory for years until I found out through wiki.
Wow I 💗this video Just The Ten Of Us was one of my favorites shows I was 10 when it premiered thanks for being part of my childhood and being a positive role model in my life Coach Lubbock had a good relationship with his Sons and Daugters l like I had with my late Father who died 4 years ago

My country cousin flew to Germany on one of her husbands planes on there 2nd honeymoon & she came back with the whole series on a bootleg copy & gave it to me as an early Xmas present. Later, she did the same thing with a bootleg copy of the original 1970's band of Lynyrd Skynyrd in a full concert. And no, I don't wanna know how or where she was able to find it. But she does have her ways.............. I'm SO spoiled. LOL

I liked this unaired pilot, but glad they went with and turned it into what became Just The Ten Of Us. It was one of my favorite shows. When they cancelled it for the new Miller-Boyett sitcom, Going Places, I was going to boycott ABC. However, I couldn't bring myself to give up Full House, Family Matters, and Perfect Strangers. And I got to where I liked Going Places. Then ABC cancelled that show. I didn't watch TGIF as much after that. But TGIF as a kid in the late eighties and 1990 couldn't get any better.
Good news: If you look up the show, you will see this Retrofat project, with this guy Jeremy, who has been showing an episode a week and commenting on it periodically. Bill himself has commented there as well. So far, he has done 30 episodes.
COOL! I loved JTTOU growing up. It was cancelled way too prematurely, and not because of ratings but because of network politics. Shame! Thanks for posting this!
