The jaundice thing is hilarious. I had that when I was a baby and I was told they wrap you in a "light blanket" and help mature your liver - like - the yellow thing doesn't last your ENTIRE life. Also - you don't turn NEON yellow. hahaha!
I think about 20% of neonates are jaundiced. It's pretty common. I was very jaundiced at birth and looked very yellow, but still, yeah, not neon. I also took on a lot of fluids and looked like the stay puft marshmallow man and my face was puffy, so the doctors joked they'd switched me with an an Asian baby or that my dad wasn't my dad -_-;
PrettyH8Mach1n3 agreed jaundice is very common with new born babies these days and it’s easy to treat. This used as an idea for a modern horror film is just weak.
This one was not great by any means. The only thing i can give it is that it was the last film Shirley Walker composed and conducted before her death that same year. May she rest in peace.
It still amazes me that the same guy (Bob Clark) who directed one of the creepiest horror movies with the original Black Christmas, went on to direct what some would say is THE definitive Christmas movie, "A Christmas Story"...then Baby Geniuses came along...proof that u can't hit a home run every time
@BranKoenig Actually, Babe Ruth wasn't always good either. He was the very last out of the 1926 World Series, when he tried to steal second base, leading the Cardinals to their first World Series win.
Apparently, candy canes aren't allowed in prisons/asylums for this very reason (Jolly Ranchers aren't allowed either, despite being only an inch long). I guess I shouldn't be surprised that nobody did any research in a movie that treats jaundice like a life ruining deformity.
I don't want to make assumptions, but I'm guessing you weren't/aren't violent. A police friend of mine said that they aren't allowed to sell Jolly Ranchers in prison commissaries anymore because prisoners were making shivs out of them. I gotta admit, that's pretty creative.
ouijacorn I was there for attempted suicide. Eh, they wouldn't let me have jenes, but they gave me, the only diabetic, candy. They weren't very smart to begin with.
If you watch GoodBadFlicks Cecil's _Exploring_ _Black_ _Christmas_ video, he explains that director/writer Glen Morgan originally written the remake to be more of a slow-burning psychological thriller, to Bob Clark's enthusiastic approval. But then halfway through filming, executive producer Harvey Weinstein (the same idiot who butchered _The_ _Crow_ _2_, softened down _Scream 3_'s violence and gave Rob Zombie the job for _Halloween_) showed up on-set and demanded more slasher elements to it, much to Morgan's dismay and frustration.
Was it also Weinstein's idea to have an incest subplot, cannibalism, and a sex tape getting leaked for no reason? Because if it was, then I think we need to watch Weinstein.
I would not be surprised if it was Weinstein. In fact, this movie was reshot *_without_* Glen Morgan's foreknowledge, and when he was informed of the reshoots (via a phone call by one of the actresses), he got pissed off. That's right, the director knew *_nothing_* about his own film being reshot.
Yeah, Mary Elizabeth Winstead actually told the director. Bob Clark wanted to write an actual sequel but sadly he and his son were killed before that could happen. At least with the remake, they were telling a different story and not rehashing the original. Also, the guy from GoodBad Flicks mentioned how the cinematography was really colourful and beautiful
6:16 Actually, I was born with Jaundice. It's pretty common among newborns (approx. 18%, so not exactly rare). All they need is some sunlight or to be placed under a UV lamp for a while. My parents just set me out in the sun in a car seat, and I was fine. Haha
I begged my friends to go to the movies to see this and I haven't been allowed to pick a movie since. I'll never understand how this screenplay got a budget.
I'm dreaming of a Black Christmas With blood and gore cov'ring the snow And the sanguine liquid glistens As the viewer listens For coming screams of "NOOOOOOO!!! GOD, PLEASE! NOOOOOO!!!"
Oh gosh, I remember this movie. Our school wasn't allowed to show R rated movies, but one kid snuck a bootleg version of the disc into study hall my sophmore year. Study hall teacher didn't care enough to look up the movie to double check the rating and took the kid on their word. When it got to the "eyeball rip out" scene My face felt like ice cause the color drained from it so fast, and it made me nauseous. I didn't waste time to go out into the hall only to promptly fall over and faint. I was out long enough a passing teacher (not my Study hall teacher) woke and helped me to the closest bathroom. Then, once she also helped me back to the classroom, I spent the rest of class on my phone with earbuds in to ignore the rest of the movie. It wasn't the sight of it that got me, but the snap they put in for the optic nerve tearing.
3:49 Oh look its the leg lamp from A Christmas Story! You know, because Bob Clark directed both that movie and the original Black Christmas! UR HURR HURR HURR!
Rory Lumley you say that but holy shit some sororities are that judgemental and terrible at my university with dress codes and weird hazing rituals where they point out bodily flaws with permanent marker.
Yeah, I watch a lot of his videos and some from other people. A lot of the other people's output has dropped (in either quality or quantity) so I'm mostly here. Plus, I've most of the movies he talks about and watching really bad horror movies is a hobby of mine I guess you would call it. ;)
***** Yeah I actually first started with the Nostalgia Critic (something about his thumbnail image made me curious what this guy in the funny hat was doing), then I went on to the Cinema Snob (also reviewing movies I had seen in the past). I actually really used to love Spoony's role-playing game stuff (I have a strong RPG background and he reminded me of my former DM who has since passed away) but he doesn't do so much of that anymore but I did catch two such videos he put on her recently (sadly with the comments blocked, guess he was tired of hearing people complain about all the wrestling videos).
My brother actually had this movie on DVD and it had two alternate endings, one of which was actually true to the first movie's ending. It actually scared the shit out of me!
I saw this in the theaters and I really liked it as cheesy fun. I really like the killer's look of being yellow with those blood red pajamas and I reallllly like the scene lighting after he's impaled on the tree and you see his silhouette in different colors from the xmas lights above kelly
@@Account_Not_Applicable yeah i hate when a movie is really washed out in blues. greys , browns or just lit so dark you can't tell whats going on for 90 percent of it
When the mother said to Angus that "she was her cookie and she could eat her up", I immediately though she was gonna rape her daughter as well. Now excuse me, I'm gonna vomit my guts out.
I was wondering where I had seen that blonde before, and turns out Katie Cassidy was not only in this, but also the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street, as well as When a Stranger Calls. 3 remakes of classic horror films. Its almost impressive (and I guess she was also in Supernatural, but I never watched that show)
I'd love to see you'r review of the original Black Christmas. :) You have done a positive review before, surely there are SOME jokes to be made, but the positive reviews feel so very fresh when done rarely. :)
And it was terrible. It's like the remakes remade half of the original film: this one had the slasherrific elements while the new one had the subtext. And both did it horribly.
Loving these uploads here Phelous :D I havent seen the original yet, it looks pretty creepy though considering you only see the killers eyes. This movie though... looks pretty boring.
I might've thought this movie was good, but now I know it probably isn't worth my time(or anyone's really). I'd say watch the original. Like Phelan repeats, everything is more subtle and actually builds suspense. A big reason I watch Phelous' reviews is to know which movies are really crap and which ones might be good to watch. Thanks for the info Phelous.
how did the original get past the "you are being called by a calling party on your own line. please give the calling party time to answer" message? or did they add that after the movie to prevent such situations xD
Dragosaur X Now she's back as basically the same character as Killer Frost, only with scream powers. And both Killer Frost and her are not.interesting in the least.... I miss the times when I liked these shows
Yes yes yes! I am so happy you did a review of this movie ^.^ I don't know why but I get into a giggling fit when you say "and 'he/she/they' dies". And yes as crappy as this movie is, it only makes me appreciate the original movie all the more.
The Paratrooper She's a reviewer who reviews unknown and obscure films (hence the name). She's also the same person who did a crossover with the Nostalgia Critic in Simon Sez, i highly suggest you go see her there. She's really funny and more upbeat than Nostalgia Chick's pretentious yet feminist attitude she's been having lately.
Somehow this is better then the recent one still. At least the killer being this "boo-hoo" Michael Myers-like dude. That's fun, at least. It's not good, but hey, it's something.
Speaking off Black Christmas. Do you have a favourite Canadian horror movie Phelous? I know Canada doesn't make as many as the US, japan or Italy back in the the 70's. But between Ginger Snaps, Scanners, the Dark Hours, Grave Encounters, and of course, the original Black Christmas I'd say Canada has a pretty good record when it comes to horror movies.
It probably would've saved this movie if it turned out that Glasses Girl and Agnus were the same person, would've made a cool twist but nope. And giving Billy yellow skin doesn't automatically make him a memorable horror movie villain; everyone will always remember Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger, Micheal Myers and even Chucky but no one, and I mean no one, is ever going to remember this nobody from a crappy remake of a horror movie that was interesting on its own and didn't need any tweaking at all.
+speedyeric1 And Mary Elizabeth was in the thing prequel.I love the thing prequel I love how Mary Elizabeth`s character in the thing prequel is likable and sympathetic..........while Mary Elizabeth`s character in the black christmas movie is the opposite
