This week the Ocoee Parking Lot Jam is missing a few core pickers, but some veterans and new pickers dropped by, and everyone had a great time.
Jack Lewis (banjo), a founding member of this renown Florida Jam, and the cornerstone of each Friday night gathering, was away this evening. Jack has mentored many other young pickers over the 25-plus years of the Jam's history.
The commitment of long-time regular pickers has assured the success of the Jam and made it a fun place for bluegrass musicians from all over to come and play.
As it sometimes happens when some of the core pickers are away, other strong players who haven’t come for a while show up for a surprise visit and fill in nicely.
The only net loss tonight was Bill Miller’s bass, the glue that holds everyone together so well and keeps the rhythm rock solid. Consequently, the sound is in the high register throughout the video. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who plays bass, or would like to try, to turn up the volume and play along in the music minus one.
