720P-HD “Bluegrass Nuggets”
WHILE PANNING FOR NUGGETS I FOUND PURE GOLD PICKERS IN A PARKING LOT! THEY CALLED IT THE OCOEE PARKING LOT BLUEGRASS JAM.
Jam sessions are for players to interact with other players and make music in a freewheeling environment, without having to be concerned about pleasing an audience. Some jams are impromptu, one-time occurrences, while others are weekly events that may happen in a private setting or in a public venue. Jams may focus on a particular style of music or even a particular instrument, and every jam has its own culture and etiquette.
As you watch, keep in mind this is an OPEN JAM. It is not a rehearsed performance. Each picker, in turn, chooses a tune, and he or she sings or plays it accompanied by all the other pickers. Everyone gets a chance no matter the skill level. The Jam meets every Friday evening at 6:30 in the parking lot behind the Pizza Hut at 15840 West Colonial Dr., Ocoee, Florida 34761.
PICKERS:
Jack Lewis - banjo, vocals
Gerald Creed - guitar, vocals
Johnny Adams - mandolin, guitar, vocals
Bill Miller - upright bass
Emily Miller - mandolin, vocal
Phil Gregory - guitar, vocals
Doug Buchheister - mandolin, vocals
Russell White - guitar
James Vickers - guitar, banjo, mandolin
Cody Nieves - banjo, guitar (green shirt)
Fred Burky - Fiddle
Eric Pfeiffer - Fiddle (blue shirt)
Jerry Jernigan - guitar
Tim Clifford - mandolin, vocals
Joe Hennessey - guitar
Dennis Matula - guitar
Lee Hanline - guitar, vocal
Jim Kronmeyer - banjo
Adam Wilson - guitar, mandolin, vocals
TECHNICAL: Apologies for the grainy, dark appearance in sections of the video. This is the result of the pickers gathering farther from the usual parking lot light. Much of the video was shot in available darkness. This didn't affect the great sound. You'll notice a high-pitched buzzing early during the daylight portion of the video. This temporary interference is caused by locusts in the tree above the pickers.

I give many thumbs-up to Cody (banjo). I love his sound!!!!!! So young and so talented. It's hard to play the banjo well, the other fellow on banjo is Very good ( John Henry tune) he has obviously been playing longer and his brother on guitar is Very good also. Thumbs-up to all three, but I have a special place in my heart for Cody. I do not know him, but have a special place in my heart for him. The videos with Cody are my favorites. I felt bad when his string broke on one of them. Love, from California.

I call your attention to a pretty ballad at 19:36, sung by Tim Clifford. Tim describes it this way...(lyrics included) Every husband needs a "get out of jail" song like that! I may have got a little out of sequence with the original lyrics. Allowing for several musicians to play breaks, along with that being the first time I have done it on mandolin, makes for some confusion. "Like I Used to Do" by Tim O'Brien There was a time, when we’d be the last to leave Watching the sun come up, while everyone fell asleep The music was always loud, and I’d smoke and drink too much Until I’d fall in your arms, and into your lovin’ touch Now as the years roll by, time has reeled me in I’ve slowed down a notch or two, from the way things were then Those old ways of mine, I’ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do, like I used to do Is carry this torch for you Remember the days, when we’d pack our bags and run Chasing a crazy dream, into the morning sun Now as the twilight falls, I find I’m satisfied Watching the fire glow, as long as you’re by my side Here in my heart it seems, time has passed me by I love you as much today, as the very first time Those old ways of mine, I’ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do, like I used to do Is carry this torch for you I still want you the way I wanted you then If I could do it all over, I’d do it all over again Those old ways of mine, I’ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do, like I used to do Is carry this torch for you Written by Patrick Alger, Timothy Page O'brien

BLUEGRASS MUSIC + SOUTHERN COOK'EN = WORLD PEACE

Jim Jackson Jim, I could subscribe to that philosophy, indeed. I applaud your brilliance. Thank you for sharing this bit of wisdom.

@@vivatones66 I'm a country born, raised and edjukated Utah boy. I lived in Virginia/West Virginia /Appilatchian coal fields area for a couple of years. I left a piece of my heart there when I came back home to Utah to be with my family. My wife is from Dayton Ohio, but her parents are from the coal fields of Kenntucky/Tennessee. The Southern music, food, culture, language and customs are deeply entrenched in us.

Jim Jackson Jim, I’m with you, born in the Southland, played in bands in Chattanooga and Nashville. Met my wife on the Cumberland Plateau. She was from north of Dayton, Ohio. Your comments bring back great memories. Keep in touch and keep watching.

vivatones66, My wife's mother is from Whittley City Kentucky on the Cumberland River. My wife's grandfather was a coal miner and a self-styled Baptist preacher, with 12 kids. The kids each got one new pair of shoes each year.

Jim Jackson I appreciate your sentiments Jim anytime you’d care to share. I’ll be going now to work on this week’s video. I hope you’ll like it. Before I go, Jim, I was thinking about your comments. They all relate to your original formula for world peace. Cross cultural, very positive. I am sure many will benefit from reading what you have to say about your background. I will be off-line now working on the new video. Have a good week.
