Why does everyone take the bike apart? I watched my mechanic do two clutches 4me. He ties the back up to the front. Uses one of his sockets to center the clutch without a special tool. Smartest mechanic I ever met.
I just told to my dealer what was wrong on my 1150RT, and told him to watch your vids..LOL! He was in awe. They're not going to bullshit me. Those goddamn splines are terrible.
thank you.I watched you video before I did the job and it showed me the way to go.I did not take the frame off with the seat fender and final drive and wheel with it,I took it apart and put it together piece by piece. It took me a week to get the parts so I had lots of time to think about the best way to tackle it.I was lucky.
In the service manual they do tell you to take everything apart like that. I saw what they did here and thought, "oh that looks way better" until the end when you need 4 axises to line up all at once lol
Sweet Mother of God...what a mission for one stinking clutch...good thing the latest boxer got the (wet)clutch under the front cover and a lot more accessible. And here i was contemplating buying one of these for little $$$ on craigslist to screw around.... NOT ANY MORE, LOL. AWESOME videos, thanks !
@ 0.57 - You could make that into a cartoon or high speed video showing you putting it together! LOL From day one, I always got a trip out of how BMWs get "cut" or "stripped" in half to repair the clutch and other things. That is why the price is so high for these repairs. Other motorcyclists see this and flip out in disgust, but then realize the engine and drive line design and realize that's the only way to do it. I just wish BMW made stronger clutches, splines, baskets, and transmissions!
Hi Chris. Recently replaced my bikes r1150gs 2001 clutch. I only replaced the friction plate and the rest remained. During test ride, the clutch engagement was stammering which caused the drive shaft free play to be noisy. Once fully engaged no sound. I have rode almost a 1000miles and still cant seem to bed the new friction plate. Your advise appreciated.
Hi, I have no experience with the slipper clutch. Unless it corrected the spline issue I'd see no use for it especially in the low horsepower R1200C & CL. Thanks, Chris
I did the job in 20 hours without one glitch or problem.I kicked its ass in two days made 700 dollars.I had the manhole cover resurfaced.I centered the clutch disk and left the bolts loose mated the tranny to the engine and then tighted the pressure plate bolt on the cover Thur the starter mount.used wire to install throttle cable.I took my time and got it done quick.Bow to the master you hackers my name is Russell
