the reason why there’s so much passion behind college sports is because you don’t view the players as athletes, you see them as friends and classmates. They’re guys that live in your neighborhood that you might see in class or around campus at the grocery store or the bar. These universitys have been around forever and are all over the country so it’s much easier to access college sports than professional
@mertsalih
@mertsalih Год назад
Ah that makes so much sense mate, they have that closer connection with the players. That never crossed my mind but it is such a good reason why they support them with such passion.

literally the worst description ever and it’s not even true.... While the nfl know has 31 teams i think.. or 32.. FBS has 131. The teams are much more local and people actually have a reason to support the schools because they most likely attended there. Alma matters and the fact there’s so many local teams in places nfl teams aren’t are the two reasons college is so exciting

The first one you did was for Clemson University. The Rock is Howards Rock which is from Death Valley National Park in California. The importance is that the stadium is called Death Valley. Frank Howard was a coach in the 1940s. Someone brought him that rock and to motivate his players he told them unless they give 110% keep your damn hands off my rock. So it was added to the stadium and as the players run down the hill they rub the rock. They come off of busses because the locker rooms are on the other side of the stadium. So they are bussed around to run down the hill. That hill is no joke either....it levels off at one point which is where you see the players jump.

You mention how impressive the amount of fans in the stands. Two of the schools you saw are Clemson and South Carolina. Their two stadiums combined hold 160,000 people. The state of South Carolina has a population of just over 3 million. So if both teams are playing at home in front of sold-out crowds, that means that one out of every 20 living in the state are at those games! I live in the state and that stat still blows my mind!

If you think that’s crazy, watch a team as they play a hated rival and are winning or it be a close score. Depending on the team and the fan base and most importantly, the location. The energy and noise can be tremendous. Again depending on how their team is doing the fans can keep that energy up and it can affect the team as well. It’s hard to explain, but you can you can feel it, even if you’re watching on tv at home, but there is nothing like being there in the mix. It’s quite an experience. College football has so many traditions and stories that go back generations. Perhaps some of the fans in the stands went to those schools, maybe generations of families went there, who knows? But one thing is for certain, there is passion that’s why I love it so much and I look forward to the fall every year.

They didn't do South Carolina justice with that short clip. It's the home of Sandstorm (by Darude) and the whole stadium goes absolutely insane. Plus they beat three of the teams--Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Clemson-- in this video just this season. After the Tennessee game they let 70,000 fans pour onto the field and mob the players and it was an absolutely incredible scene.

What I love about the college football atmosphere the fans have a direct impact on the game. When the visiting team comes out on offense the fans get loud and interfere with the team's ability to communicate, call plays, and just snap the ball on time.

Go Irish ☘️!! I love Notre Dame, but my personal favorite entrance is probably Florida State Seminoles at night. A complete hype factory. There are some awesome historical entrances you should look up too. Notre Dame fighting Irish and southern Cal Trojans are huge rivals. During a big matchup in the 70s, the ND student body built and actual 20ft tall Trojan horse and rolled it out on the field and the team captains popped out of it.. Before my time, but my father said it was ludicrous and the place erupted. Cheers!

The energy at the beginning of that game was absolutely electric and it was a great experience, except for the standing. But most people think of NFL fans when they compare, and we are way more passionate about college sports than professional sports. I just graduated from Virginia Tech (second clip) and I can assure you that the entrance is one of, if not the best college football entrance in all of football. They play “Gods Gonna Cut You Down” by Johnny Cash, turn that off then all 66,000+ people chant “Let’s Go” and “Hokies” (we are the Virginia Tech Hokies), then they play Enter Sandman by Metallica. As they play that it’s tradition to start jumping. We have registered a decent amount of seismic activity with our jumping. As the players run in they hit the “Hokie Stone” which is a special limestone that is only found in 2 quarries in the world in that area of the state of Virginia. Virginia Tech football games are 100% my favorite thing in the world and I will never not get goosebumps when I see it. College football is so great because it's your lifelong friends, neighbors, alumni. Your son on the field, your daughter in the marching band. You're in the stands cheering your team on from start to finish. One game I attended, our seats were way way up high! They had a fly-over by the local Air National Guard. I was so high I could almost reach out and touch the wings of the plane! You can't say one team's fans are better than the other bc they are all nuts! What you don't see is that many of the fans arrive a day or two before the Saturday game. The come in RVs and camp out. Before the game, there is a thing called 'Tail-gating" people bring grills, pots of chili, beer, and other food! Many bring their iPads and watch the game without ever leaving the parking lot! It's amazing!

The school with the Native American mascot, "Chief Osceola" riding "Renegade" is Florida State University where I went to school. The team is named, "Seminoles" after the Seminole Tribe of Florida. One of the best places in the country to see a football game. Other teams have tried to replicate the FSU War Chant but make no mistake, it's a Florida State original. FSU also has the largest marching band in the nation and the School of Music composes much of the music for the band. Florida State enjoys a close partnership with the Seminole Tribe of Florida who approves the mascot costumes and images.

A lot of the passion stems from the fact that American football was a college game first, dating all the way back to 1869, although the “modern era” isn’t thought to have begun until the end of Ivy League dominance sometime during the 1920s and ‘30s (though others say the era began in the ‘50s) If you wanna take a deep dive, check out some of the rivalries that go back almost as far as the game itself - Auburn/Alabama, Ohio State/Michigan, Oregon/Oregon State, North Carolina/Virginia, Minnesota/Wisconsin, Cal/Stanford, Georgia/Florida, USC/UCLA, Texas/Oklahoma, and most importantly Army/Navy are just a few of the century-long rivalries that make the game special
