One of the few strongest episodes in the first half of this season. It’s probably the darkest the show has gotten up to this point, while also further fleshing out our vampire trio.

Season 1 had a pretty dark episode. Hyena possessed students eating the principal - that's pretty dark.

I think Lie to me is the best episode of the first half of Season 2 by far. How dark it is, moral complications, the fact that you think Ford is just this bad guy until you see he was someone who was scared and dealt a bad hand hence why he is making morally questionable decisions. A lot of people in Fords position would do what he is doing. Buffy’s monologue at the end about how everything gets more confusing as you get older.

When this episode initially aired in late 1997 I didn't think much of it. It took me longer than most episodes to learn and study all the nuances of the episode.

You had already met the creepy lady in School Hard.... And yer, vampires can't phisically enter into a house if they are not invited. That's an unbreakable rule in the Buffyverse (also in general in the vampires world I guess). This is a good ep in S2, full of details which will also assume a greater importance later on... but no spoilers!

theres a lot of good stuff in this episode. the very ending with buffy and giles is my favorite part and actually one of my favorite moments of the series. but, Xander: Angel was in your bedroom? Willow: Ours is a forbidden love. underrated willow moment and im glad you kept it in. :)

Not a vampire movie he's mouthing along to, but a tv show called Dark Shadows ( which later did become a movie). That's Jack Palance on screen.

Great ep. I wish we got more of a friendship between Willow and Angel over the seasons. Their dynamic in this episode is just so great.

The movie is a very loose prequel, but yes still a prequel. For instance in the movie Buffy was a senior, so continuity doesn't really fit between the movie and show. I still get a kick out of one of the main vampires being played by Peewee Harman. Worth the watch and would make a good reaction.

Most fans and Joss do not consider it cannon although Joss does reference less than a handful of things from the movie. However, some of those things are changed a bit too.

@@shercahn Joss says his original script is canon, not the bastardized final version that was made, where the Kuzui's, Donald Sutherland and other studio interference forced the movie to be quite heavily changed from Joss' original vision. There is a graphic novel of the original script that Joss says is canon.
