Buffy The Vampire Slayer 1x10 Reaction - Dakara 

In case you hadn't had the realization yet, the reason the kid's coach was in jail isn't because he told him it was his fault they lost, it's because he beat him and put him in the hospital. That's why the kid was in a coma.

“Caught up with him after” is a nicer way of saying he got physical and hurt Billy

It's the hellmouth that helps these weird things happening.

Also the coach was the one who beat up Billy and put him into a coma or at least that's what I understood from the episode

The Master (the big bad vampire) commented on a particularly notable psychic event. Ostensibly this was Billy being assault so violently by his coach, Billy's mind reached out (or I guess perhaps turned inward) and, fueled by the mystic energies of the hellmouth, created a sort of psychic backwash. Billy was trapped in his own worse nightmare, and accidentally drew others into it their own worst nightmares; or triggered their nightmares to taken on a physical manifestation.

Episode ten is the one the got Daraka off the theme song dance wagon! I guess spiders are high on her "it's a no for me" list. Also, Buffy has a lot of fears, as Dakaray said : turning into a vampire, being abandon by her dad, being buried alive, freeing the Master, ... Let's keep a tally of the all of them, shall we?

This is definitely one of the best episodes of season 1 as getting to see everyone's fears was so interesting.

Billy was indeed very badly hurt by his kiddy league coach and that is why he was in the coma in the first place. That trauma of being physically (and probably also mentally) abused by someone who is supposed to be a mentor type figure, so it's an authority figure who you think you can trust as a kid (like a teacher or parental-like authority almost), that fear and trauma created the monster that later attacked the student who went down for a smoke and attacked Billy and Buffy later on. He was the "monster" version of the coach, his hand was even turned into a baseball bat. The Hellmouth is the reason that the monster and all of the other nightmares turned into reality. That mystical energy convergence if you will, is the reason that demons etc are attracted more to Sunnydale, but is is also the force that makes reality collide with mystical/magical forces, making some things that we feel / have experienced affect reality. Next to this, my theory is that Billy's nightmares becoming reality and The Master saying that he feels a powerful psychic force, is maybe a sign that Billy could be someone with some sort of psychic powers in the future. That maybe the Hellmouth was making Billy's (dorment) psychich ability stronger, and that this is what caused his nightmares to bleed into reality. But that's just my own thoughts on that. This episode is kind of all over the place imho, but when you boil it down it is really about learning more about how the Hellmouth affects this world, and getting to know our main characters more. Buffy's fears really tell us about how much Buffy blames herself for her parents' divorce, her abandonment issues and her fears about slaying / the pressure of it and potientally not living long. So her fears show us stuff about her father not wanting her, her test scores (which is also mainly about her mom who keeps mentioning things about her grades and school going badly earlier and how that is why the had to move), and also her slaying (leading to the fear of the Master walking free, being done in by him and turning into a Vampire). Willow's fears tell us about her shyness, how she is afraid of speaking or performing in public and thus basically about her being scared that she can't be brave. Xander's tells us how much he thinks of himself; ooh, distraction! Good! Oh no, something scary! Now I'm useless!.... Kinda like that. And also, the symbols on the walls refer to a joke he made after the nightmare scene that made you not want to rock out to the theme song. But he also shows that he eventually comes, because it's Xander himself who figures out that he can face his fear. Giles is all about his literary use and job as a Watcher. What does he have to bring if he can't help with the books (getting lost in them / not being able to read), or he fails Buffy and she's gone? He is supposed to mentor her, teach her, guide her. But because he is Giles, for him this also transfers into caring about her in a sort of fatherfigure way, so he wishes to protect her from all harm and that leads us to the nightmare at Buffy's grave. And then Cordelia... Her fears about her looks and reputation obviously come in here, showing us how scared she is about keeping up her appearance and how much pressure she feels about fitting in. I mean, she's literally crying her eyes out when she is dragged to the chess club, which is funny but also really sad actually! Lol. All in all, I think it's a pretty weird way into our characters minds and that's pretty cool. But I don't claim this to be the best episode ever, just wanted to give some insight as an OG fan ;) I have watched Buffy from when it aired (I was 10, almost 11 at the time) and have rewatched this show soooooooooooo many times, and it is still my number one favorite show EVER! So it is really fun to see you and other ppl who maybe watched a few episodes when they were young, or none at all, react to it as if it is brand new. I have noticed that it holds up pretty darn well, which is great, and that the jokes and the feels are still being experienced now by new "Watchers" ;) Thanks for sharing your reactions here, I can't wait to keep watching! No More Spiders had to watch this scene so very many times for awards. I love this episode but not coming back for a while. Agreed, Buffy is an adorable vampire.

we all have fears...we all have nightmares...i myself have a LOT of sleep issues including sleep paralysis and vivid dreams or nightmares. what makes this episode great is it's the ONLY episode in the whoel of Buffy that talks about Astral Projection. I know a lot of people talk about th nightmare side of this episode...but i feel the astral projection is more relevant...that is HOW Billy caused the nightmares to become real...unintentionally of course. In a nutshell; Billy was beaten up by his coach after his game and went into a coma but there is a state called Astral Projection that allows a spirit to move outside the body when in a dream or comatose state. Due to the Hellmouth Billy brought his Nightmare with him causing everyone's nightmares to start becoming reality.

Don't know anyone have recommend this before but you should react to The show Constantine. It's a very underrated Supernatural type of show.

Back when these shows all had to run for a full TV season... like 20+ episodes. There will be a decent amount of "filler" episodes in BTVS (aka "monster of the week") which do nothing at all for the main story arc. Some are better, some like this one here... well, not so much. Hang in there, it sure is worth it.

Jane can I please suggest you a show will you please check out Merlin its an old British tv series and many people like it and I think its almost as good as Lucifer so if you want you can start on that as well before you finished Lucifer I commented but you did not see it I guess and If you don't want to react to merlin or you have already watched it can you react to Flash or Supergirl please answer this comment I want to know what you will react to because I love your reactions but I don't like The boys or BTVS.

this one is a dud - and breaks the Buffyverse internal logic. it at least comes with a bit on insight into the charecters. on the flip side only just realizing the significance of Xander being the first one to face his fear - and how it only happens once the three supporting characters are reunited.
