Apparently the portraits for SNK groove were not drawn by Shinkiro but actually Bengus, who employed techniques taught by the former. Shinkiro himself drew the portraits for CVS2.

Actually, Shinkiro did drew portraits in CvS1, but only for the Capcom characters. The SNK characters in Shinkiro's style were drawn by various Capcom artists, not only Bengus (though he did most of them, with some face tweaks made by Shinkiro).

Dang, could've fooled me. TBH, Shinkiro's clean, smiling portraits didn't always work for me (it definitely looked off for Blanka, Evil Ryu and Riot of The Blood Iori), and I preferred some of the Capcom takes on SNK characters.

For CvS1, Nishimura only drew portraits for SNK characters. The Capcom characters' Capcom-style portraits were drawn by Daigo Ikeno, who had previously done the portraits for 3rd Strike. I think you'll be surprised by his depiction of Morrigan :P

I agree, upon further review I like CVS1 more than CVS2. Hear me out for a second, CVS 1 has more replay value, and a ton of extra content to unlock. I spent countless hours on CVS1 back in 2000 when it first came out on Sega Dreamcast. In 2001 when CVS2 came out there were WAY less unlockables, but that was compensated for more characters and grooves. I understand that, but CVS2 left a lot to be desired as far as grinding and working for points to unlock extra content. Unpopular opinion probable, but I’m sure I’m part of the minority that likes CVS1 over CVS2. Don’t get me wrong I love CVS2 and the huge roster of characters, but I just felt more immersed in CVS1.

I’ve definitely always liked the music, stages, and presentation a lot more in CvS1 for sure. I think CvS2 has better gameplay and it obviously has a bigger roster, but everything else goes to CvS1.

the sound of cvs1 is unmatched only by mvc2. That era of sound design and presentation was such a wild west of sorts that allowed for such a significant sense of design freedom that is referenced in the present.

Notice the timing of the first Resident Evil game. It came out just as Street Fighter 2 and arcades were in severe decline. Capcom pivoted to RE Devil may Cry and later Monster Hunter because Street Fighter was waning in popularity.

What CVS1 definitely has over CVS2 is presentation, the music, special effects (those fireball effects look amazing), and that announcer. All of those give CVS1 some great hype, unfortunately when it comes to gameplay it does feel a bit choppy and undercooked. CVS2 is still my all time favorite fighter, but once in a while I like to pop in CVS1 to appreciate it's humble beginnings.

I'd say I prefer the look and art direction of Capcom vs. SNK 1 over 2. I think the 2D sprites over a 3D background look in CvS 2 has aged a bit poorly in comparison, I've never been a fan of that style in general, I much prefer hand-drawn backgrounds. That's a reason why I prefer the look of Marvel vs. Capcom 1 (and its previous crossovers) over MvC 2

Hasn't the long matches criticism been used against Capcom V.S SNK 2 as well? Also, I'd love to see an SNK V.S Capcom analysis. Specifically SVC CHAOS. I know out of just about every V.S game Capcom has ever been involved in, it's probably the least loved. As someone that used to play it at my local go-karting place as a kid though, that game means a lot to me and it's the game I wish I could see a sequel to the most. An SNK developed V.S Capcom game that isn't held back by SNK's financial restraint.

Imagine my surprise seeing this in the arcade one day. I could hardly believe my eyes that all those rumors about an SNK/Capcom crossover finally came true. In some ways I kinda preferred the first game to the 2nd, as I liked the 4-button layout (but there's no denying CVS2 is by far the better game). I don't think it's common knowledge, but you could completely bypass the ratio system by holding down all 4 attack buttons before hitting Start. This will turn the game into 2v2 matches, so ratio 3 and 4 characters will have their power downgraded, while ratio 1 characters will be upgraded to be on par with the ratio 2 characters. Also, you can hold Start before selecting a character to use their EX version. Most of the changes between normal and EX versions weren't huge, but for some characters, it completely changed their play styles. Yuri for example, gets ranged projectiles as opposed to her short-ranged ones. If you're still playing ratio matches, EX King in SNK groove is really abusive with her Double Strike super once her health goes critical.

Love this video and on the real bro, there’s only two video games I put so many hours in that actually made me sleep deprived, and malnourished. Those games are Capcom VS SNK, on Sega Dreamcast and Phantasy Star Online 2 for the Xbox Series X. Yes you heard that right I missed meals from grinding for unlocked content on CVS1. I was 16 back in the year 2000 when I purchased that game and I played thee hell out of it. It was one of those games you played and say, “eh I’ll get an hour In before I eat dinner” next thing you know it’s 12 midnight on a school night. I would definitely pay for it the next day sleeping in class and everything. 😬 I was so immersed into this game, and it’s replay value. Definitely my favorite fighting game on the Sega Dreamcast, I’m glad I still own it too.

@@austinreed7343 Indeed since KOF XIV there is a character with airdashes, at the beginning everybody thought that he would have a big advantage, but it have not been a big deal, maybe only the Capcom characters the super strengetend versions of the Marvel vs series with air combos, hyper jumps and super specials that cover all the screen, that's are the version that would stand a chance, but then if you only give to KOF characters the "Dodge Attack" from Real Bout or the "Guard Cancel Front Step" from SVC chaos, LOL, KOF characters could still overwhelm characters that have Super Special that covers all the screen.

The first Capcom vs SNK game had SNK's character more diverse than Capcom's. Snk's characters were characters from: King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting & Samurai Showdown. Capcom's characters were all from Street Fighter except Morrigan who was from Darkstalkers
@pablocasas5906
@pablocasas5906 8 месяцев назад
It does help that SNK had more active fighting franchises during that time, and even in later they added more obscure characters from games like The Last Blade, Kizuna Encounter, Buriki One. I wish Capcom added characters from Cyberbots or Star Gladiator Now, if they wanted to include characters from non-fighting games that would be more difficult for SNK, since their only major non-fighting game is Metal Slug, and perhaps the original Athena/Psycho Soldier

CvS1 actually deeper than 2 and is more aesthetically pleasing. CvS2 is just wilder and has an amazing OST!! CvS1= Better fg CvS2= Better video game Ninja Edit: Also @06:31 Chen is wrong if you play the very first version most comp ppl from back then actually considered SNK groove pretty powerful it didn't have a slow start when charging like it did in CvS Pro and the CvS2 S-Groovet nerf. Although capcom groove was just as good but snk groove had an edge.
@tcchip
@tcchip 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, most people picked SNK Groove because it was a short bar that charged relatively fast. The Capcom groove in CVS1 took forever to charge. Sure you, got a small damage boost for every level of meter you held, but someone playing SNK groove becomes dangerous when their health is critical.

@@JanKenTribeWorldWide Unless a CvS3 is retooled into a more Marvel-like game, I don’t see it being a thing any sooner than an MVC4, as the first two games have a style that would cannibalize or be cannibalized by SNK’s games & SF6 in terms of sales in the market.

@@austinreed7343 🤔that's an interesting way to put it. Either way Marvel license usage for something of that nature is definitely in limbo.
@austinreed7343
@austinreed7343 8 месяцев назад
@@JanKenTribeWorldWide Indeed so. In fact, it seems the CvS games and SFxT aren’t internally considered to be part of the Vs. Series, but rather Street Fighter itself as side games, explaining how their gameplay is much more grounded as is the roster, not to mention that no new SF game was released alongside them, unlike with the Vs. Series. See also how assets created for CvS2 and SFxT are later used in SF proper, while this is not the case with the Vs Series. Indeed, the Vs games have had completely different assets from SF after MvC2. I’d imagine if we get a new CvS anytime soon it would be a true Vs Series game, due to their being an existing SF on the market being actively supported, rather than an SF spinoff, but I know a lot of fans won’t be happy with that. SFxT in particular was stated to be “the new SF game”, but was replaced by USF4 due to controversy, while CvS1 & 2 were released when SF was in hibernation and only really getting enhanced ports after SF3 flopped, EX3 flopped even harder, and Western audiences already disliking the Alpha games. Capcom Fighting Evolution is probably also part of this, and CFAS may or may not have been.

To be fair, if the SNK characters were brought over with their full mobility and such, the Capcom characters would have to be more like MvC to compete with them.
