Carnivore Diet + Intermittent Fasting = The Perfect Match

#carnivorediet #keto #zerocarb
In today’s video, I’m going to show you how a carnivore diet pairs perfectly with intermittent fasting. How they both support each other as well as the different ways to do it.
1st: A carnivore diet is a diet consisting of mostly animal products as well as eggs, and for some people, dairy. Another variabel is little to no plant foods. As a result, this diet is extremely low carb, and sometimes, ZERO carb. So while some may disagree that it is not a ketogenic diet, I call bollox on that.
2nd: Intermittent fasting just means Meal timing; when you eat your meals. Do you eat all day long, putting your body through a hormonal roller coaster or do you compress your feeding windows (and eliminate snacking) to better manage your hormones. My fav way of doing IF is a 18-20 hour fast with a 4-6 hour feeding window.
This has evolved from the 16-8 I started with years ago. Now I increase my feeding windows with ease, which leads me to point 1:
Because a carnivore diet is based on nutrient dense animal foods with ample fat and protein, your body is less likely to overeat. After all, your appetite is first focused on getting your body the nutrition it needs to survive and repair, which is why eating processed garbage just leads to eating more processed garbage-because your body is STRUGGLING to get the nutrition it desires.
I would say this is the single greatest benefit of the carnivore based approach: the appetite and satiety effects.
Next up is hormone control.
The reason the KETO diet gets great results is because it focuses on getting people off the foods that wreak havoc on hormones. The simple act of focusing on the amount of carbs and sugar one is consuming has immediate benefits in increasing insulin sensitivity, controlling appetite and removing the many low quality foods that are then epicenter of really bad eating habits.
The carnivore diet trains your body to adopt an intermittent fasting routine because that is the natural state your human body desires. This allows you to not even have to think about your fasting. Your body just gets better, closer to its natural state. Then after awhile, you wake up each day with zero hunger pangs whatsoever. Soon after that, you can go an entire day without eating and not even think about it.
This is why I suggest everyone start by moving to more animal product with ample protein and fat rather than starting with IF while still eating the low quality foods. If you do the latter, you are going to need a lot of willpower due to the insulin spiking nature of these lower quality foods + the lack of nutrition in the foods and their inability to satisfy you.

I tried carnivore for just a week to see how I felt. I didn't realize at first but my ibs was reduced. By two weeks I noticed I hadn't had a single migraine. A month later I'm down to one meal a day with dark leafy greens once or twice a month, because I seem to crave Brussels sprouts from time to time, and I feel incredible. No more hot flashes, emotional pms seems to be gone, I've lost 16 pounds, I've had zero migraines, my skin looks amazing, and I'm shocked, really. It's crazy how much better I feel.

For those with a huge amount to weight to loose carnivore/meat based diet plus alternate day fasting will shred the body fat. Once you get fat adapted you won't even be hungry on the second day, just drink salted water and don't eat while burning tons of body fat. Can loose 5-10 pounds a week doing this, without starving, low inflammation, and tighten skin with the fasting.
@ColinStuckert
@ColinStuckert 4 года назад
totally agree. The reason I think carnivore is more powerful than something like general keto is because it simplifies so much and because animal products, especially protein, are so satisfying it's nearly impossible to overeat and/or remain hungry.

The Ancestral Mind by Colin Stuckert, oh my gosh....greetings from Alberta, Canada! -This is just so crazy b/c I literally thought of combining ADF with a carnivore approach and then I see this! LOL, right?! :) Lucky me to hear this right now! -I’m a 52 year old female with b/w 20-30 lbs I want to try to lose as efficiently as possible without extended (long) fasting. -I seriously hope that it can shuttle this amount of weight off in a 4 month span, but I also truly want to try Carnivore for the health benefits...so, a perfect marriage b/w both lifestyles! :) -My only vice (eventually when weight is gone)would be onions with beef liver-haha-but perhaps, ‘someday’, once fat loss is achieved, and craft beer (again, when weight loss is achieved)....but, of course, I am very uncertain about the beer thing, as once I get this off, I may not wish to mess with a good thing. So, I’m totally going all in (after vacation) with Carnivore/ADF and hope it can accelerate fat loss with some walking, yoga & Qigong. :) Many thanks for this video!!! Ps...would it be ok on the Fast Day, to have BCAA’s?
@mikebaker9331

Mike Baker, Thank you so much! I just kind of knew that the BCAA’s would not be optimal on fasting days :)....sheesh eh? Haha! Do you think it has to be Carnivore OMAD on eating days *to lose weight at a good clip? -I guess if I were hungry more than once, I was hoping to sneak in a can of sardines & a boiled egg for example. :) Thanks again so much for replying, Mike! :)
@mikebaker9331
@mikebaker9331 4 года назад
@@zephyronfire3821 I have only tried ADF while on the Carnivore diet. I think Carnivore is the best and lept it from Keto. If you eat the sardines, I would think that would do minimal damage to your fasting efforts and just a short bleep to your autophagy. Find what works for you. We all probably do things a little differently.

Trying to depend on will power to "diet" is like trying to use willpower to hold your breath under water for an hour. Your body will fight to overcome hunger spikes(or to breathe!!!!) Eliminating the insulin response on Keto or Carnivore ends insulin spikes..so no hunger pangs and no expectation that your body will be able to resist the urge to gorge on crap.

I've been a zero carb carnivore for 5 weeks today, doing OMAD and fasting on alternate days. So basically one meal every 48 hours, but I don't do a pure fast between, I do a small fat fast - I'll have coconut oil in my coffee and a tsp of butter when I feel hunger. Probably about 400 kcals total on fasting days, but nothing that will raise my insulin. I have to say, cutting out sugar is maybe the best thing I've ever done for my health. I was a lifelong sugar slave and the withdrawal was a rough few days but I have no cravings now except for meat, fish, eggs and fat. The mental clarity and calm I have just from being sugar free is remarkable. Really wish I'd done this years ago. Feeling good!

If humans left the cave 6 times a day to get "small meals" we wouldn't be here. Great video. One thing I don't often see is the subject of today's fruits and some veggies. They are ultra-bred today to be super sweet. Read a seed catalog sometime and see how often they mention "sweet" in the descriptions. Early man ate seasonally available fruits and veggies, and didn't gorge on overbred fruit-shaped sweets. Today's fruits especially are just sugar bombs-not 'healthy". and your body metabolizes it as SUGAR. Been on keto 3 years, lost fifty pound to goal in first 10 months, kept it ALL off, now trying strict carnivore cause I was basically there anyway....ANd I'm 64 years old so age is not a factor for success. Feel better than I EVER have and will NEVER go back to Standard American Diet (SAD)...

I took blood glucose and blood ketone levels, on carnivore, for a few weeks, and yes, you're in ketosis. I got bored measuring because both my glucose and ketone numbers and uneventful and stable. Especially since I don't drink caffeine any more. My mom who is pre-diabetic is the same with the exception that her blood glucose is a little higher and showing signs of going down gradually. In the morning my glucose is in low to mid 5s and evening mid 4s. My ketones are ranging between 0.3 and 1.0... all the time. Clear head, physically feeling good, no notable issues.

Cool, found a new carnivore channel. How do you feel about long fasts? I share a similar ancestral way of thinking with diet and life in general like yourself, a rare mindset. About the video, after following carnivore on and off for a few years I've I found that intermittent fasting - to me at least, comes naturally, without planning i find the eating window slims down. I feel like it's the blood sugar and ketosis that helps this. Cheers from New Zealand.

2:35 Do you think it would make sense to have a carb "cheat day" to reset the body every 2-3 weeks? I used to do that on keto long time ago, I was told that the body needed a sort of carb reset/shock to keep the body from getting used to keto state which slows weight loss down.

Hello, I really enjoyed your video man! very good quality. I have a question tho, I started carnivore diet 5 days ago with intermittent fasting. I have been doing intermittent fasting for a very long time now, the only thing I changed is what I am eating. Ring now I am not feeling the best, I have weird bowl movement and sometimes I get dizzy. Is that because my body needs to adjust to the change or carnivore diet is not for me? I am eating fatty cuts and I do eat cheese sometimes. I would really appreciate the help!
@ColinStuckert
@ColinStuckert 4 года назад
Thanks for that. To answer your question, this sounds common. After all, your microbiome has to change. Your body is literally adapting to removal of certain crutch foods you've probably been eating for years. Many that do keto from a high-carb diet experience similar symptoms known as "keto flu" - so you are probably going through similar experience. My advice is this: mix upm feeding windows. If you aren't feeling hot, test diff foods and see how they make you feel. If fasting is causing too much stress during transition, ease it back a bit. After all, fasting is a stressor on your body, a positive one yes, but a stressor nonetheless. And finally, hang in there. Give your body time to adapt. It'll be worth it!

I do 16:8 fasting + carnivore. Compound Kettlebell complex workouts 4x a week. Been doing fasting 16:8 for 45 days with keto diet. I saw maybe 5lbs of water weight loss but 2 weeks ago I went 2-4 steaks in my 8 hour window. Whole fat raw milk(3x a week last thing before the fast starts) well I went from 304lbs and today (9/26/2020) 279.6lbs. I've done it before but with it taking me too long to ever see a result because I wasn't fasting but grazing on beef products and energy drinks driving 16 hours a day for my company. Fasted in the past so I was familiar. I now use the Zero app for its timer. It's easy and you can log your weight sync your smart watch or fitness band and calculate sleep weight and fasted data.

@@ColinStuckert I will and I am. Once I reach 260lbs I will introduce ketogenic meals back into my keto carnivore diet but only on Sundays. That will be a cheat meal only. But my first goal is to get down to 250lbs. Then 2nd goal to get to 235lbs. I didn't fast last year when I did carnivore. I did lose a great amount of body fat. But the thought of eating throughout the day specially large amounts of savory great tasting animals was over saturating my pallet and it got boring. I eat about 3-5 small steaks(some leaner some fatties depending on the day) and ill have a2 milk if I can't get raw or organic milk mixed in with my 100% grass fed whey protein powder right before I start fasting

Fasting with carnivore is magical, and are equally as important to me. I don’t understand why many carnivores don’t think it is ok to be hungry. My Story. 2 Years ago I was at my biggest ever weight of 84kg. I lost without trying 20kg and have slowly put it back on again to 80kg. I looked into Keto and got so confused it fried my Brain. I asked friend who knows a lot about this ( He has lost 40kg) He told forget the Keto !! just eat Meat. I have naturally fasted most of my life. I only eat from around 3 pm to 10pm one meal and snack anyway. I love my Coffee as well. I thought about what he said and then it dawned on me...... I lost that 20kg when I was in a phase where I only felt like eating meat. that's when the light bulb went on for me. 20kg dripped from my body so I'm Proof that Carnivore ( which I'd never heard of before) suits my eating routine. I fast for an average of 19 hours without even thinking of food. I also realized that veggies have Carbs and Most Fruits have Sugars. I only Eat mainly Grass fed Beef a little dairy and Avocado is the only green fruit I eat. Trust me! I did it without even realizing I was doing it and I feel FABULOUS!

@ColinStuckert
@ColinStuckert 4 года назад
of course, this is not medical advice, so plz consult your doctor. That said, I'd make sure to take all your markers into consideration. How is sleep, stress, hunger, etc? You could be experiencing some insulin spiking due to increased protein intake. So you could test lowering protein and replacing it with fat a few days in a row to test response. I would also look into the glucose ranges and what standard medical is considering low, moderate or high. Sometimes these ranges are based on suspect markers, cholesterol is an example. I dont know enough about glucose levels in this regard to comment beyond that. Hope that helps!

Speaking from experience I agree with most of this, especially the marriage of Keto (you say Carnivore) & intermittent fasting, it works folks. However I don’t think I heard you mention cholesterol? So my advice would be to give this a go, sure, but please monitor ones cholesterol on this sort of diet, I would recommend regular blood testing, especially for those with a genetic disposition or family history of heart issues. I’d prefer to be alive and a bit overweight than skinny & dead.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding cholesterol, it's already been basically stated by many scientists that eating cholesterol has nothing to do with your internal cholesterol levels. There are countless examples of people eating like dozen + eggs a day and having not a single bit of blood cholesterol spike, for example. If you dig deeper, scientists arent even sure what constitutes good or bad cholesterol anymore. Even though we have a billion dollar + statin industry that is stil pushed on people.
