Carnivore Weight Loss Plateau | What To Do When You Stall

Are you following a carnivore or keto diet and hitting a weight loss plateau?
This can happen for a variety of reasons, but today I highlight some of the most common.
You can apply these principles to just about any diet.
Here's why you might be stalling out in your weight loss efforts on a carnivore based diet.
1. Make sure you are cooking raw Whole Foods as little processed as possible.
You need your body to do the processing. This ensures you get full faster than eating anything that is already processed for you.
Examples include whole salmon fillet vs canned salmon. Or a whole steak sliced into think slices over diced steak.
2. Make sure you are utilizing fasting. Ideally skipping breakfast.
Then test whether your biggest meal should be your first meal (if you worked out, it probably should be) or whether your biggest meal should be more around dinner time.
Experiment to find which helps you satisfy your appetite the best
3. Eliminate ALL plants and Dairy
-For obvious reasons: they may be complicating issues that you can’t identify.
-Diary is also inherently calorie dense and it’s easy to over do.
4. Drink More Water
No brainer. Can help cull hunger pangs + make you feel full faster.
Often times hunger pangs are actually thirst. So stay hydrated.
5. Eat less fat. Blasphemy, I know.
But try trimmer your steaks a bit (save it for rendering or give it to a fav pet)
If you are eating your typical calories in a day, cutting fat back a bit and/or replacing it with a bit more protein, can help you thermogenically burn more cals to process + fill you up faster without noticing less cals.
You aren’t trying to calorie restriction, but you are trying to offset some grams of fat for protein which can have fat burning benefits as well as hunger control appetites.
Final notes:
The key is control hunger while increasing satiety.
This will help you avoid over eating while helping you get down to a better baseline of food intake that is optimal for utilizing fat burning in the fasted state.

Hard cheese, soft cheese, cotagge cheese....i can eat a 1lbs of cheese in 3days lol.....and i have stalled, i am almost 2months in. Also bacon, i can overeat. I can do IF when im at work, but during the weekend, man i could eat more often. Thx for the info Colin.

I eat a lot of fat and protein, but I guess I don’t eat enough calories anyway-Even tho I’m not hungry. So I think my body went into starvation mode and didn’t want to lose any weight. So I tricked it by switching back and forth between increasing calories and fasting. It worked :)
@fiftyshadesofurban
@fiftyshadesofurban Год назад
I think starvation mode is a myth. Your body burns whatever it burns for energy. A car is not going to like "go into starvation mode" and stop burning fuel but keep on driving down the road. Physics just doesn't work like that.

I just want to point out that bodies are different, according to age, gender, hormones and/or illness. IF just DOES NOT work for me. But I have been doing it since I was in high school, long before it was a thing, I just never took to breakfast as a meal, so that's 40 years of 2 meals in an approx 8 hour window. And honestly, the days I do it, I immediately stall, irrospective of calories. Getting breakfast in, is essential for me to lose weight, and its a grind to break the habit of a lifetime, but ive proven to myself over and over that over this many years of doing it, my body has adapted to being put in a daily catabolic state by holding onto the next meal i eat, and converting it to fat, if i don't choose catefully. I wonder of you all will find the same down the line. Extended fasts work better, and sometimes I snack on a few boiled eggs and go again. Anyway thanks for the video, just wanted to say there are some of us outliers who's body just doesn't respond to it 😊✌️

I do all of those things and I have been on a plateau for a week now at 195lbs. When I was 245 I was losing ~1lb a day until I reached 195 and now I just stay at 195/196 everyday. I am eating ~810 calories a day AND I FEEL FULL so I'm not over eating I'm not eating any carbs whatsoever .. Some people say I might be eating too little but with the steak I'm eating now they are so big I get full and can barely finish it. I do think I could increase protein but since my BMR is ~1900 calories I should be burning fat considering I'm doing carnivore, not eating any carbs whatsoever and at a ~1100 calorie deficit.

I switched to Carnivore with IF ~50 days ago and I've lost around 27 lbs. That was after doing Keto for months and months. I couldn't seem to break the plateau. On Keto with IF, I had lost 35 lbs in 1.5 years. I'm going to lose that much in about 3.5 months if I keep on this path! I started at 272lbs and I'm at 203.2 lbs as of this morning! Hopefully, I break the 200 lb barrier in the next seven days! I don't think cheese is too bad. Don't eat a brick of it, but I love adding a few small pieces of Goat cheese to my eggs as a second smaller meal. It is really flavorful! I just started eating eggs again so I wouldn't consider that and the cheese to be carnivore anymore... I'm having a hard time with the less fat item... fat and protein have helped me lose weight. If I just ate protein, I don't know how that would affect my weight loss...
@ColinStuckert

I’ve lost 24lbs in a month and a half on the Carnivore diet however I’ve plateaued and it’s been well over a week. The only thing that I was doing was eating a mild cheddar cheese snack at night which I will cut out. But my only vice is half-and-half or heavy cream in my coffee. I have 2 cups a day. One is decaf. Could this cream stop my efforts. I also found out three medications I am taking for high blood pressure, thyroid and anxiety cause weight gain. I feel doomed and the harder I try something’s alway fighting with me. I’m going to talk to my doctor about drug alternatives. Also, I’m type 2 diabetic and this diet has helped with keeping my blood sugar lower. I know excessive insulin production will go straight to fat. Any tips will help. I want to lose 50 more lbs.

Hello, I would highly recommend cutting out coffee completely for awhile. Then do everything you can to get off drugs by talking with your doctor. You will have periods of plateau, so stick with it.
@patrickh709
@patrickh709 3 года назад
The cream is breaking your fast. Try to gradually reduce the cream until you can just drink your coffee black. After tons of research, I stopped taking all my meds last year without consulting my doctor. Most typical medical doctors are very ignorant about nutrition. Nutrition is not a focus in medical school. Drugs are the main focus in medical school. My doctor had me on all kinds of meds without even informing me about what types of foods to eat. They are totally ignorant and don't understand the importance of low carb, they still think that low fat diet is the key. They are totally backwards and they are the main cause of obesity in this country because people blindly trust their doctors to take care of them. Self reliance and taking control of your own life is the key. Constantly educate yourself about what is best for your own body.

What I don't understand is how people are losing so much fat eating all that protein. Excessive protein intake spikes insulin and that stops fat loss. I know eating in general spikes insulin some but excessive protein seems to spike it for longer. Seems like it's kicking your body out of Ketosis for longer than high fat/moderate protein would.
@ColinStuckert
@ColinStuckert 3 года назад
Insulin isn't the only mechanism, especially when you have a healthy metabolism. And the insulin spiking of protein is overblown. It's also not used for fuel/storage since it is nitrogen based. Read Ted Naimans work to learn more

72 hour fast. Nothing but water with salt. Yes it sux ….but look at it as your punishment for eating like a pig that made you fat. This resets your body back into a fat burning ketosis state not to mention reduces cravings to cheat. Colin’s list in this video is what you should be doing everyday. Once you break your 72 hour fast you will learn to appreciate simple foods without all the dairy, sweeteners and seasonings. Stop going 90% and getting mediocre results and go full on 100%.
