Let's test a few Cartrivision Instant Replay Cameras and see how many of them work. In the follow up series we will then deal with each camera individually to repair and or align each one to full operation.
Enjoy!

Who would have 7 Cartrivision cameras.....Videolabguy, that's who! Those are pretty nifty little cameras. I never even considered a special camera for that format. I always learn something new from you.....or old from you.... :)

6 good'ns outta 7 aint bad ! I remember being given a video camera of similar vintage, only to find that when I hooked it up to a monitor, well and truly burned into its image sensor tube, was the ghostly image of the factory yard it must have patrolled for a long, long time !

That is very common with old surveillance cameras. Properly installed units would be mounted to scan back and forth over their view. This does not prevent burn in. But, it creates an even smear rather than a sharp after image. On a side not... Most Cartrivision cameras, have actually got literally zero hours of run time on them. The Cartrivision contracted Eumig to make many thousands of them. Because of their goofy interface and operating voltage, very few experimenters bothered to use them. That is why so many still exist today.

@@videolabguy Yep, that's really jammy of you to get 7 low hour video cameras in one fell swoop....and what with that tasty wire find the other day !!! I didn't realise Eumig made video cameras, I've seen their 8mm movie cameras and I own one of their 8mm projectors. All Interesting stuff.

@@videolabguy I feel truly bad for Austrian Eumig, always betting on the wrong companies and projects during the 1970s, first the Cartrivision camera, which didn’t sell, and then the Polaroid Polavision-system. I know they built a factory for it, but they never made the money back on it.

7 wow. How the heck you get that "lucky". Nice fine. Cool that most of them work.

Just started watching this series, wow 6 out of 7 cameras working straight out of the box, that's very impressive! Look forward to watching the rest of the parts! Just wondering do you plan to do direct video output recording videos with any of these cameras in future videos?

But, of course! There is more to come. I have to recap the other six cameras, and then go through a complete alignment series. So, stay tuned. Same Lab Time! Same Lab Channel!

It's awesome to see one of these working. My grandpa bought one of these in the late 70s and hooked it up to his Sanyo Betacord VTC 9100. Here's some video from it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4bw5OYgJgEE.html#t=1m50s . I got his camera but I'm not sure if it works anymore.

There is a good chance that camera does work. BUT, and its a big one, it is not as easy to power up as some. I make these videos for folks just like you. Thanks for the video clip. That was cool. I see the video was getting some buzz into the audio. Gives the production some character. Is that you in the video?

@@videolabguy That's me! I'm a bit taller now. I pulled out the camera and took a quick look at the tube, no characteristic white spots that I could see like in your vidicon restoration videos so I'm hopeful it can be brought back to life. The transformer in the power supply looks pretty dried out so checking that will be the first step.
@videolabguy

The transformer is probably OK. It's the filter capacitors that will be needing replacement. Be sure to check out my earlier Cartrivision camera video where I restore the power supply. That should be very helpful to you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4NFqpyOJkW4.html

How exactly does one acquire 7 cartrivision cameras?
@videolabguy
@videolabguy 2 года назад
Obsessive compulsive disorder spread across twenty years of manic collecting? Excessive enthusiasm? Love of the subject? Finding tons of them in our local flea markets for as low as a dollar? How could anyone resist?
