The fact that he flubbed that concussion joke and then just moved on, then seamlessly retold the joke but correctly, and STILL got a laugh out of it. That's a master comedian at work
You can see at the end after he drops the mike that this was cathartic for him. He needed to get this off his chest. Stand up for himself and hit back. Hit back THIS way. Using his art. He says he always loved Will Smith. Admired him. Rooted for him. Imagine how painful it is to be disrespected publicly by someone you admire and look up to? Shame on Will Smith.
You could see in his eyes, it did hurt him, but the reasons were far deeper than I would have guessed. I honestly thought, the way he handled the whole situation, that he took it in stride and shrugged it off, sort of no big deal... but you could see it in his eyes, he was HURT by it. He handled the whole thing better than anybody could have. Respect.
Will apparently has replied to this and not in the way one would of hope. My respect for Will Smith is declining faster than his marriage. Like I honestly can't even begin to imagine what a genuine family discussion looks like in this household.
And for the sake of someone who cheated on him with one of his son's friends. THAT part is fucking baffling. Would make about as much sense if Johnny Depp squared up to defend the honor of Amber Heard.
To be fair, Chris was the host and he got humiliated by Smith, it’s not chris’ fault that he punched. I really hope Chris Rock makes as much money off the incident as possible, because at the end of the day, if jada can’t take a G.I. Jane joke then more fool her
Because that’s what they did to slaves as entertainment called Mandingo fights because we were regarded as dumb animals so don’t throw away your integrity for their entertainment
@@jamesquininchetta-ft8ty As a white person, I had no idea. We learned about slavery all through school but never did a textbook touch on this. Thank you for educating me. ❤
@@token555 Don't ever feel "white guilt", don't ever apologize for something that happened more than two and a half centuries ago that you had no part in, don't ever be made to feel like you must kowtow towards and act meek and subservient towards a stranger due to cultural differences, and above all else be proud of your heritage.
Man, Chris still has it 100% as a stand up comic. I loved his specials from the 90s and 2000s, but he hadn’t made anything in so long, I wasn’t expecting him to come back and still be this good.
Yeah he made that 'Tambourine' stand-up a couple of years ago but I didnt think it was anywhere near as good as his original stuff. This performance was legendary, including the title 😂
Chris Rock did touch on something on here that me and it would appear a lot of others did as well. Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock who as Chris himself said he is considerably larger than Chris. Now let's say we replace Chris Rock with oh let's say The Rock! Will Smith in that situation stays in his chair and smiles and laughs and that's it.
@@Siyar612 Slave owners would buy, sell, and trade slaves for the purposes of fighting to the death. This was called Mandingo Fighting, and you can see it in Django Unchained. By saying "don't fight in front of white people", he's saying " don't throw away centuries of racial progress by throwing ourselves at one another like the animals they thought we were, for what amounts to nothing more than their entertainment."
Can you imagine Will seeing this knowing how much of what Chris is saying is nothing but the truth. In retrospect Chris Rock was a representation of Jada and the slap was all that anger and frustration of what she put Will through. Just like she betrayed Will; Will betrayed Chris. Will wasn't defending his family; he was just defending what view that he had left of himself in the relationship. Chris Rock is legendary for how he handled the whole situation nothing but respect.
He betrayed himself. He dishonoured and diminished himself, and allowed himself to be betrayed. He’s a grown ass man, and whatever happened between he and Jada he had a hand in.
@@mosgamingchannel1754hate is a wrong word. He got it easier than if a non millionaire celebrity/black person assaulted someone. Most people would have been arrested, not given an Oscar and a standing ovation. I don't 'hate him," but he assaulted someone half his size on national tv. What the fuck? Being a great talent, and he is, is not relevant
@@JohnBaigerEveryone suddenly thinks Chris Rock is funny? Chris Rock has been one of the TOP stand-up comedians in the world for DECADES. He has been more than funny, and capable of selling out massive auditoriums all over the globe. Nothing about this legend's success is sudden.
@@AvecPoesie lol then explain all the people saying he lost his touch when Tambourine came out. It's because he didn't have any button-pushing zeitgeist bullcrap to help him along. Now he does an okay 10 min closer about Will Smith and everyone is falling to their knees worshipping him and acting like they always have done.
@@JohnBaiger My philosophy is, "If a drinking alcoholic tells you that drinking liquor is bad, it's not because the person said it, but because the drug is bad, despite the alcoholic being a hypocrite." The joke itself was funny, because its true. Even if you see all of the superficiality behind the man, the joke is good, because it's true. He is an entertainer, and he is trying to entertain us. I am willing to give this man the praise for his hard work, even if the man behind it may not be genuine.
Hats off to Chris' incredible composure during the incident. I can't stop wondering what would have happened and what image black people would have given to white folks if Chris slapped Will back. Just try to visualize the result. Respect Chris. You gave billions of people a life lesson and saved black people's face. 🙏🏽❤
We already have a clear vision of what you people are like, we just cant say it without serious repercussions financially and socially. That will change someday. Trust and believe that.
@@ohhellyeah2878 "You people," says it all. As a white woman, I would wholeheartedly give Chris Rock a standing ovation for hitting back. He'll, I would do it for him!! 😂
@token555 Crying about my phrasing doesnt change the truth about what I said. And you know it, which is why you didnt try rebutting it. Keep whining tho.
Race has nothing to do with whether you respect yourself. Chris showed remarkable self control and poise; he also was aware of where he was and the magnitude of the situation and what the repercussions could be if he did react negatively. He handled himself like a professional, unlike Smith. Apparently hollywood only cares about blacklisting and removing awards from famous people that are accused of sexual misconduct but give awards to those who openly assault fellow actors on national television.
honestly Jada Smith and Will have no shame. these are adults. Will is upset over Chris’s reaction, as if Chris’s reaction unwarranted. Will embarrassed Chris on national television in a huge night in Tv. So rude and inconsiderate especially because Will heard the joke before it was performed
"Don't fight in front of white people!" = The crowd was dead. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I will always have respect for this man - he handled that slap like a real man, and not doing anything back shows that he has control over his emotions. 👍🏻 👍🏻👍🏻
To this day the slap bothers my view of Will. As a Philly girl I was always supportive of Will and his positive attitude. I am not a person caught up in celebrity where I see famous people as infallible. People make mistakes, my issue with the slap is the humiliation it brought on another person. I need Will to have a private sit down and truly humble himself. Chris is the one who got slapped and he will always be known for that. i don't like that..at all
To be fair, he got a whole gig's worth of great material out of that one moment. That kind of money will soothe a lot of pain. As for the humiliation, I can't speak for others, but I came out of that with a higher opinion of Chris than I had going in, due to the way he handled not only the moment but also the following days/weeks. The only person Will humiliated with that slap is himself and Jada, as far as I see it.
He took an embarrassing situation and used it to his benefit. If you try to embarrass a Comedian the Comedian is ALWAYS gonna embarrass YOU back ...worse.
He wouldn’t in a million years because what he did is what every legit bully does and it’s to pick on people they perceive to be smaller and weaker than them.
😂😂😂 thank you for posting this, when I searched online I couldn’t find the whole thing and the video quality and sound is decent! I needed a good laugh before work thanks again that deserves a like and subscribe
Imagine committing assault for someone who was never loyal to you, slept with your son’s friend & interviewed you during a red table talk episode about being cheated on. She does look like GI Jane. I don’t blame her. I’m losing my hair and I’ve wanted to shave my hair off and wear a wig. F*king own it…
Never really been a WS fan, i would never watch him again after that oscar slap, total loss of control in front of the world. Used to watch the series on TV 20 odd years ago fresh Prince that was ok. He has had a good career and probably made enough money to last 10 life times but will always be remembered for this now
I kinda like that he put that joke in the special despite it not coming out the way he wanted. It shows that he's human more than ever and we all feel like a chump after getting hit. But, the people who stay classy like Chris also know that anyone who hits will eventually dig their own grave and what they're pissed about don't have a damn thing to do with us. ALL conflict is internal.
I SINCERELY NOW HAVE AND GOTS A BRAND NEW LUV FOR CHRIS ROCK BECAUSE NOT ONLY DID MANY OF OUR PARENTS TAUGHT TEACHER USZ NOT TO FIGHT IN FRONT OF PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF OUR OWN THE MINISTER HONORABLE LOUIS FARRAKHAN ALWAYS ASKING USZ NOT TO DO SO SO I SINCERELY RESPECT AND HONOR CHRIS FROM THIS POINT ON THATS RIGHT CHRIS YOU DID RIGHT YOU DID GOOD BRUH!!!!!!!
I kinda got the feeling Will went to the oscars ready to slap Chris for making an 'entanglement' joke, and then when Chris made the GI Jane joke, he probably realised there wasn't gonna be an August joke so it was now or never to slap him. Either that or he really felt like he needed to prove to the world that his marriage wasn't a joke but honestly was that ever going to change anyone's mind?
You can see in his eyes when he finishes that skit - he’s got it all out, he’s done, he’s ready to move on and leave that piece of sh*t behind. Hats off and respect to you Chris Rock. Shame on Smith - he should learn to humbly apologise and he should feel terrible for what he done, and let that lead him to repentance without excuses and without pride or entitlement. He seems incapable of doing that, so let his name die with his reputation, may Chris’ example and name live on.
@@averyyork9388 after one slap like that, and the way he has failed to apologise without some form of justification - Yes. Definitely. If he was to take full responsibility, humble himself and not blame anything or anyone else and then make the changes necessary in life - which in effect would be the old will smith dying, and a new, and better one being reborn from the ashes, then the shame of his actions and dishonourable character are all that I see when i look at him, and all is we in those who defend him.
You kinda trippin bro. His legacy and work gonna live on and he still gonna do his thing. This was a year and a half ago and y'all still this sensitive over a slap that both have been moved on from. It's always interesting how outsiders always feel stronger about things than the actual people involved. Nothing is happening to Smith's legacy and you're casting a lot of holier than thou judgment on someone you don't even know. Smith is doing fine, just like Chris is. Everyone has moved on like adults in this situation. Smith has apologized multiple times, how hasn't he taken accountability or been a man? He apologized and they moved on. People make mistakes and this man makes one mistake his whole time in Hollywood and you're already jumping to demonize and discredit him lol like good god bruh, you wanna talk about being humble and humility, you gotta show it too. You say hes "incapable of doing that" when hes literally done it multiple times a year and a half ago. What more do you want from him? Your expectations for an essential stranger aren't necessarily grounded in reality. Dude slapped someone one time, he didn't commit some immortal horrible sin like calm down man lol
