If you use an app like filmic pro and manually lock focus at a shorter distance, you still get the blur right?

Great video. I've had Focos Live since it came out and only tried it a couple of times.The team of developers for Focos Live and Focos are very good at what they do but to do Portrait Mode video, I think they tried to do it before there was a chipset powerful enough to handle it. The iPhones 13 seem to have that chipset when I see what Cinematic Mode can produce, but Apple also has literally hundreds of engineers working on their camera systems. While I do appreciate what the Focos team are doing, Focos Live just isn't ready for prime time. Focos on the other hand is very good.

Absolutely Greg. When you take a portrait mode photo with your iPhone you'll notice the blur preview in the viewfinder is poor, but the final photo looks a lot better. It seems Focos and Protake are using this low quality, power/processor friendly preview for their video effect.

So, basically I could try these apps in any Android phone with triple camera and check the results and performance. Am I right?

I only got focus live after I got focus for photo. well you are right, it is 90% unusable. If you dont move, use a not too small aperture and have a controlled background it really looks decent. But we are not here for that :) I think its the beginning and in a few years they will be able to do it properly. For now: nope

Will they work with anamorphic lense?

Sergio, I would say no because Focos Live needs more than one camera to work, which is why David said it won't work on a phone like the Xr. If it worked with just one camera you might have a chance that it will work with an Anamorhic lens.

Your edit of the comparison footage made it difficult to make a quality decision because it's too difficult to keep track of what you're looking at and under what shooting circumstances. Sucks that. 😞
