Palmas & Compás: How to practice all this? In my opinion, like everything, you have to start with the basics.
But be aware that palmas and compás are 2 different things that must first be understood separately, in order to be able to practice them together effectively, and eventually dominate the rhythm, the compás itself, the intentions (speed, volume, intensity), but also the codes and interactions specific to flamenco (llamadas, remates, cierres).
As long as you master the compás and the codes, you can do whatever you want. It's a matter of taste, sensitivity and balance. No problem at all, if it is a choice! What we don't want is just to do a few palmas patterns on a loop because we don't know how to do something else!
What is important is to:
- understand the compases: how they work, how they live, how they set in motion
- practice the stability, the peso with basic cycles on the palmas
- practice the different interactive elements in their simplest form: llamadas, remates, cierres in context, without losing the pulse or the compás.

Love this video! It's so clear that flamenco has become a part of your essence. Your passion is contagious and makes you an excellent and accessible teacher. I also cracked up at 9:38 when you said, "You'll become the compas"! 😂

It's weird watching this video-very, very few people say "I want to become palmero," but it's interesting how these important concepts from palmas/compás can help shape the way we approach guitar, dancing, singing(?), and our overall understanding of the games and rules of flamenco. Olé!

@@FlamencoMAPS Muchissimas gracias. Can you please tell me if there are any cantaores, in the past or currently, who have clear tenor voices? I learned just today, on one of your videos, of Manolo Caracol (ique voz!) and am so happy to be able to explore his recordings. ?Conoces algunos otros como el? Gracias again.

@@siangibby5771 Caracol is incredible ;-) It's interesting because we don't use these terms "tenor", "baritone", "soprano" to describe flamenco voices. Maybe you can check out Antonio Mairena or Naranjito de Triana! They also have wonderful powerful voices. Thank you for the comments!
