Lowkey my mom had a bf a long time ago that said he was was gonna rob his job, so she broke with him and said, "hell nah." Two weeks later cops come to her house asking if she seen this dude, and she told them everything. He got caught going to MEXICO and is now in jail. I've stolen once from a store when I was 12 and the anxiety and guilt of that made me never do it again, lol. It was a convenience store and I walked to school at that time. I would always make a point of showing the person behind the counter that I was putting my backpack at the front of the store so they'd know I'm not there to steal, and for a long time, I wasn't. I just wanted to buy some candy and get on to school. But then one day, I wanted both Skittles and Starbursts but I didn't have the money for both. I should've just been happy with what I could get, but no. My sweet tooth demanded more. I slipped the Starbursts in my hoodie pocket because they wouldn't make noise when walking and purchased the Skittles (that way if they did hear rustling, the Skittles would be what would make more noise). I grabbed the bag that I had always put up front willingly as a sign to be trusted and felt the guilt setting in. I remember looking up at the damn camera like an idiot and quietly saying "Please don't let me get caught." And then I went out the door...and nothing happened. Most people get away with something like that and keep going but I'd wanted to be trusted by that store and absolutely broke it. The candy didn't taste as good that day and I promised to not steal again. 19 years later and I've kept to that. I don't want to be known as a thief and want people and employers to trust me.
