Confused caller: "You called a racist person racist, therefore you call everyone racist." This is the level of intelligence that's becoming the standard, ladies and gentlemen. And saying Sarah Palin looks like a slutty flight attendant means you just called all flight attendants slutty, because people who don't know how sentences work don't understand the idea of a modifier. I despair for the species.

Sorry Greg but we have a right and a duty to call out racists wherever they are. Never ignore or allow it. That's no way to stop racism. That's what the Germans did and that's how the Holocaust happened in Germany. If you're not for good you are for evil. There are some things worth fighting for. Not many perhaps. But love, understanding, intelligence, respect, compassion, dignity, helping our fellow humans, respecting and caring for our planet...these are things that benefit all humans and must be upheld. It is a trickle down economics that is to blame, calls for fairer society and social security state is only way to prevent the income disparity. As things are, US needs to look at European economise that have given rise to fairer societies, more equality and lower social and health costs on the state but also the taxpayers who contribute less in tax but also get more from their state. Corruption that is out of control in US today is main reason why social and economic inequality is at all time high with very few owning more than 65% of entire wealth of the United States, and when I say very few I am referring to only top 600 families in US today. Its a true representation of a feudalist state when so few control so much.

I still don't quite understand the caller's point about Social Security. He seems to be arguing "you shouldn't be promoting people like Elizabeth Warren who want to expand SS, you shouldn't be promoting Progressive candidates who challenge the Feinsteins and Schumers of the world by running on expanding SS, and you shouldn't be promoting Hillary, because she is Pete Peterson's candidate who wants to cut SS." So who is Sam or anyone on the Left supposed to support? For that matter, since there is "no difference between Obama and Romney on this issue," who is ANYONE supposed to support if they don't agree with cutting Social Security? On his point about the Left calling people "racist" too casually, there is somewhat of a point there, since a lot of people do seem to conflate any issue, including legitimate ones involving troubling demographic trends, with racism, and that is sometimes meant to quell rather than to foster debate. However, since Conservatism is so virulent with legitimate racism, anyone looking at today's politics sanely has to acknowledge this, and that more often than not, including in the example brought up (Ryan's quoting of Charles Murray to decry inner city laziness), the Liberals calling these statements racist have a point.

Well, he DID make a racist argument. "Black culture does not cause poverty." - "Yes, but we should stop calling everyone a racist at the first step. There's so much income disparity *despite the huge government programs*." That argument implies that environmental factors cannot be blamed, and that thus the cause of disparity must be genetic in nature. That IS what he said. He suggested that race itself was a factor, not merely linked to other factors. That is the very definition of racism.

This guys sees people "seeing racism where it doesn't exists" where is doesn't exist.

Many of these conservatives know that they are racist and don't care what other people think about it. But they don't want to be called racist.

If you're talking to someone and they say racist things and you call that out and their response is tell you it's not ok to bring that up because it's a blanket insult then they're not accidentally racist they're purposefully racist and they're cornered.

Actually, I think we can call everyone racist. I don't think anyone raised in the US can be not racist. I think the best we can to catch ourselves when we think something racist. Trickle-down economics doesn't work? Of course it works. It depends on what the social/economic goals are. It works for millionaires and billionaires, but hurts everyone else. If it didn't work for them, it would have gone away after being discredited as a con over 40 years ago. That's the goal. So yes, it works.
