Shiv really thought she could come in with zero prior business experience and run a nearly 100 Billion dollar company. And people wonder why no one takes her seriously smh.
What's funnier is that her main defense in cruises was that she wasn't in the company and wasn't across the scandal, but then says she has enough experience to land the top job. I think Roman would be better, which is sad considering how immature he is. Shivan might've just been better at politics, and that is where she should've gone to. Roman had experience and went through their training program which Shivan did not too
Both Roman and Shiv are equally unqualified. Roman because he is a ticking time bomb of a PR disaster waiting to happen and Shiv for being manipulative person who thinks she is smarter than she is.
@@soyunpreditor50 Ehhh I don't think he should struggle. What defines Roman is that he has an innate talent for business and social acumen but having been born with privilege makes him a disaster because Rome never had to suffer the consequences of his actions.
It's the way she comes in, already looking at her watch and glancing away like she has better things to do elsewhere. Then the condescending expression when she offers him "Gourmando" - like you're trying to pacify a child with a treat. I love that Connor, the least of the siblings, is able to cut straight through her hauteur and put her in her place. She really is just "doing what her dad tells her", but has managed to convince herself that she is a real boss. The sad thing is Shiv is a very intelligent woman. What holds her back is the constant need for her father's approval, and delusions of grandeur where she believes she is smarter than she really is. I'd love to see her character get knocked down a peg, learn from her mistakes and then really come back roaring as the powerhouse she could potentially be.
Shiv should have stayed as a political operative. She's effective when she is working behind the scenes, but collapses when she is operating out front.
Connor seems to get a special pass from Logan, partly because he's not conspiring to overthrow him, but I think more over guilt about him being on the outskirts of the family.
That "let's stay civil" sounds desperate even if it wants to come across as tough and cynical. This episode really showed Shiv out of her element, and that was duly noted by Logan. Both Sarah Snook and Alan Ruck are brilliant in this scene.
The writers should have given Connor two kids, who are power hungry and plotting to take over grandpa Logan's empire. He is all alone in his corner. Despite their differences Shiv, Kendall and Roman will always stick together because they are full siblings.
Lol why add characters to the show and add another dynamic? Those characters would need in depth development and analysis which the show cannot afford to have.
I think Connor is ironically a very important character in terms of reminding the audience what they are watching for. If you had 4 siblings fighting over who got to be top billionaire it would be hard to root for any of them. But the way he gets dismissed because he did just take the money tells u it isn’t about the money, it’s about their dads love and respect. That is what the game is.
This scene really shows how far Shiv has fallen down the pecking order and in everyone's eyes. Connor, the delusional, overprivileged, afterthought of all the siblings, still wipes the floor with her here. I also have a strong feeling that the worst is yet to come after her irrevocable attack on Kendall; he will wipe his tears and equally, if not more emphatically, wipe the floor with her as well.
If you ask me this season is the least delusional connor has been. Like the level of intelligence he has been showing the last couple of episodes are suprising. His finally acting like an adult and getting what he wants.
I think and believe Connor could become te succsor at this point! Connors backstory is that his mom had mental problems and that was the reason for Logan too break up with her. Connor thook care of his sick mother and that is the reason why he never worked in the company and why Logan gives him all the money. In the background Connor is the elder brother who is the caregiver, how he helps his girlfriend out with all the money, gave Roman some youth memmories.... But he knows when too stand up for himself...
She was in politics as a hardcore lobbyist prior to this though. Politics is cyclical and I think her play is to suck it up and find a week spot to swoop in. She's so arrogant that I doubt she'd waste time on this if she didn't have some agenda.
Connor legit sounds like trump in 2011 and guess what went down in 2016. The whole family except Logan and Kendall take Connor as some joke but they know he has talent when used properly he is savage can be the type of killer Logan likes.
Not really. Shiv's job here is to tell Connor "no". She does that. Connor whines and stomps his feet and threatens the family, but he leaves the room with nothing. At the start of the conversation he's offered an executive role at a major television network, but is so bad at negotiating that by the end of the conversation even that has been taken off the table. Connor's "leverage" is, at best, mutually assured destruction. Given that Logan chose to send his favorite son to prison rather than retire from his role, he doesn't seem like the kind of person who will lose that game of chicken. Not to mention that whatever Connor can accuse him of is certainly no worse than the accusations Logan is already publicly battling regarding his buddy Mo-Lester and the cruise rapes. If you think Connor won this interaction then you misunderstood the scene. He threw a temper-tantrum, showed his ass, and walked out of the room with nothing. The purpose of this scene is to show that Shiv is perceived as being weak to the point where even a powerless moron like Connor thinks he can push her around. But, you know, he can't.
@@rossvolkmann1161 nah she could have played him but she doesn’t have it in her. She has no grit. I’m sure Roman would have thrown some shit his way as a response rather than fold like Shiv.
You gota give it to Connor. He's the one Roy who actually walks the walk. He doesn't want his fathers empire. He wants his own. Meanwhile Kendall, Shiv, and Roman fight amongst themselves for someone elses acheivement while Connor fights for his own.
I think he’s somewhat smart, and has the drive and ideas, however is too lazy. Maybe because of the excess of privilege in his life, maybe his bad upbringing (due to the obvious abusive nature of his family). He doesn’t do anything in three seasons.
The thing that all these Siblings miss is to really play to each other's needs. Kendall in the 2nd episode while trying to woo his siblings to join him went on about the vision he has about the future, family leadership and company succession. I mean, that's a good speech but you need more than that to get siblings by your side. You need to ask what they really want. Like Shiv wanting to be important, same for Roman and Conor getting some help with politics. The same mistake is made here. Shiv knows what Conor really wants but still offers bullshit roles like a food network. Sometimes, if you wanna get something done quickly, just give em what they want. When you solidify your position subsequently, you can take it back.
100% i'd also add that none of them want to hear that the other one is "in charge" Kendall has made this pitch so many times to them and as soon as he mentions "I'll be working above you" (or some variation) all the siblings turn off and dismiss him.
Really good insight. Logan got Greg ANYTHING he wanted to get him on board, whereas Kendall couldn't get im a $40,000 watch (which he could easily afford)
Yeah, that speech was so out of touch, like everyone knows that Kendall is not a social fighter, just cut the bs and sell the plan. I think he might eventually get to that point but he's still positioning himself as the moral opposite of his father and that's not going to win him any fight. Connor at least it's aware of the power play in place and he's not stepping back in what he wants
It's so funny how the Roys are built to be so deluded and pathologically obtuse. Connor just seems like would LOVE to work at a Food network, it would probably become his passion if he went all out.
I feel like everything we've seen of Connor has actually been leading up to a presidential race. Like I can see a Republican debate of him vs Mencken and the family getting even more torn apart by him and his stupid ambitions
I'd like to see who would side with Connor in the primaries would it be Connor/Logan v Roman/Mencken since Connor has slightly sided with his dad more when he's not being a "UN blue helmet". Or would it be Connor/Roman v Logan/Mencken since they're brothers.
That quote about “no blacks, no Jews, and no women above the fourth floor”, I’m sure it’s taken from a real person but I can’t find out who even after Googling. Can anyone tell me who/where the reference comes from?
@@user-yj8rf3mq4v Nah, cause there was the specific line about women above the fourth floor. I’m starting to doubt myself and think maybe I’d just heard it first on the show? I really don’t know. I’m trying to find a link to Roger Ailes as well, maybe it originated with him, but still can’t find anything online.
@@shop-a-holic3194 cool, what other obvious and irrelevant information can you pose in the form of a condescending question while ignoring the point of someone elses observation?
Seeing how Logan treats the president like he’s nothing, I think that the writers are trying to show us that his position requires just as much “skill.” If you look at it that way, Shiv seems just as delusional as Connor
Shiv thinks she’s the shit. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted the kids to beat Logan and I loved the team up, but it was great seeing Shiv get screwed over at the end by Tom. She acts like the smartest in the room even though she has little to no business experience.
Doesn’t Connor need Logan to bail him out for all the money he lost on Willa’s play? I would think that kind of minimizes the leverage he has against his dad.
true but in the first episode logan apologizes to connor for calling him an embarrassment because he ‘needed to know where everyone is’ i think logan is desperate to get everyone on his side and not be betrayed again and connor is using that to his advantage here
