I consider myself an average runner, and realize I have much room for improvement and many years of training ahead of me to reach my potential. But one trait I possess that allows me to succeed is my adaptability, which allows me to remain calm under pressure and change my race plan in order to raise my chances of success.
Adaptability is a skill that can be developed and trained, and can be used in any aspect of life, not just racing. When facing pressure and tough challenges, being adaptable can allow you to set yourself up for success and allow you to face hardship with a smile on your face.
When something goes wrong at a race I immediately see it as a chance to overcome adversity and make myself stronger...and it also makes for a good story.
