In an interview, movie actor and martial artist, Michael Jai White stated he could have beaten Bruce Lee. First of all, why is it ,who one can beat so relevant in many men's minds today? Maybe it's ego issues, but whatever it is, here is my take on it.

Bruce had Bruce's fighting style. Merged & created from many "styles". Theres a reason why Bruce left such a legacy thats still valid after 35+ years.

Bruce Lee's martial art is the most scientific and most researched... Bruce Lee's skill level is unattainable by anyone else... you have big mouth blowhards that will say otherwise... Bruce Lee can hit you four times before you could even try to hit him once!

Anybody that even mentions 'styles' or 'muscle mass' doesn't TRULY understand martial arts or Bruce Lee's philosophy. Bruce practiced and lived 'The style of NO style'...NO technique. The ability to adapt to your opponent is EVERYTHING IN COMBAT. There's an interview with MJW and he IMMEDIATELY mentions the belts he has and the styles he knows. He's already defeated.

Even Former Heavyweight Karate Champion of the World Joe Lewis said that Bruce Lee was on another level spiritually when sparring. Lewis stated that Lee psychologically knew his opponents weaknesses and at any given moment before exposing them was like he had his finger on a trigger ready to explode on them.

bruce lees weight true weight: youtube watch?v=Eyc438ArL-k "Why did Bruce Lee change his weight training routine so drastically? Based on the reminisces of Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s first US martial arts student, Bruce decided to radically reshape his strength training workouts simply because he wasn’t happy with the functionality of the additional mass. “I noticed that he was bigger after he was weight training. There was a time after he went to California that he went up to 165 pounds. But I think it slowed him down because that was real heavy for Bruce. He looked buff like a bodybuilder. And then, later on I saw him and this was all gone. I mean, one thing that Bruce was [about] was function - and if stuff got in the way, then it had to go. Bruce wanted his weight training to complement what he did in the martial arts. A lot of what Bruce was doing was about being able to maintain arm positions that nobody could violate in a fight. Like, if you take most people who are into bodybuilding or weight training, most of them are interested in simply building up their muscles to a bigger size, particularly the major muscle groups. Not much attention is paid to the connective tissues, like ligament and tendon strength. Well, Bruce’s thing was ‘let’s build up the connectors and we won’t worry so much about the size of the muscle.’ Again, Bruce was about function.” - Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s first US martial arts student Not much attention is paid to the connective tissues, like ligament and tendon strength. Well, Bruce’s thing was ‘let’s build up the connectors and we won’t worry so much about the size of the muscle.’ Again, Bruce was about function.” - Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s first US martial arts student Bruce Lee trimmed down the bulky muscle and lost 35 pounds, yet he became much stronger. How did Bruce Lee workout less and lose weight, yet gain more power and strength? Around 1970, Bruce’s body strength training evolved to meet his new workout philosophy involving compound exercises. He began simplifying his training and discarding the routines he felt added too much bulk for his martial arts purposes. Cutting down on the protein shakes and using the 20-minute body workout below, Bruce Lee trimmed his body down to a very chiseled 136 pounds. This Bruce Lee Body Strength Workout for Power is the basic training program Bruce settled on for the remainder of his life." youtube watch?v=U8CtOqJy6xM and youtube watch?v=F51KJDJNWRU and youtube watch?v=cCCXOUH3Xtw

The thing I loved about Bruce Lee was that anyone who challenged him like the way Michael Jai White did he would immediately issue them a challenge and they could fight right away in privacy. That's one of the reasons why people like Chuck Norris waited until Bruce passed away to talk about how he didn't enter any tournaments because Chuck knows that if he had said that to Bruce while he was alive then Bruce would have challenged him to a fight and Chuck wanted no part of Bruce as he knew he would lose.

I discovered through an interview with Bruce Lee's friend Grandmaster William Cheung that Bruce Lee had a real fight with Chuck Norris ... He witnessed it... no prizes for guessing who won Jim Kelly also dropped a strong hint at a press conference that Bruce Lee sparred and beat certain 'world champions' but would not disclose names... Im pretty sure Bruce Lee at least sparred with Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis, Bob Wall and several others and ... was superior to all of them

On Hong Kong TV with Norris, Bob Wall and Lee, the interviewer asked Chuck if Lee was their teacher. "We are too bad to be his students, and Bruce is too good to be our teacher." And, "While Bruce may not consider us his students, we take him as our teacher." Norris having dinner with Jon Benn, who asked, "Who would win in a real fight?" "Why, Bruce of course. Nobody could beat him." Of course, this is when Bruce was alive. Fortunately, we have guys like Joe Lewis who said, "Bruce was the toughest man I ever faced."

bruce lee would use the technique, fatigue bomb to wear him down. meaning he would wear him out with speed then appear to be tired but preserve his own energy for michael white's own defeat. fatigue bomb, appearing to be tired, but reserve enough energy for the finish. that's if its a situation where the opponent shows his own demise of fatigue to work against himself. bruce was a master in also using a weakness that the opponent might have doing such confrontations.

All he'd have to do is attack by drawing, find MJW's reach, tag him low, with speed (maybe a shin-check or two), feint the same technique to draw a covering reaction, shuffle in, blast him with a quick combo to the area (face?) exposed by the reaction, dance and circle out of range before any practical response can be mounted. Break rhythm, dance out of the way of a long, slow kick or two before blasting one with a shin kick, maybe following up with a hook. Wash, rinse repeat at the big karate guy gets demoralized with the limitations of linear movement and reactive blocking, as it fails to match boxing/fencing foot work, fast jabs and parries, and well timed kicks that don't require a posted leg for setup. No chambered punches, kicks or stances to telegraph. Lol, MJW has accomplished a lot but traditional Japanese systems have to be upgraded very specifically to be competitive in actual combat today. That's why Lyoto Machida is as much Karate as you'll ever see win in MMA, because he incorporated other combat systems into his already legendary level of skill.

I agree with you 100% Size doesn't always matter.Being a small guy myself,when I fought in the late 80's early 90's I was a 128/30 lbs and had to fight people who were 40 to 60 lbs heavier than myself because at that time I was the smallest guy and there wasn't a weight division for me. I took my chances back then and never even tried to gain weight because I knew that I had the speed and the skill,I'm going to lie and say their strikes didn't hurt but I took it and did extremely well.

Everyone compares themselves to Bruce Lee..why, because hes the best..and everyone trying to make a name for themselves wants to knock the king from their thrown in any field. The reason martial artist are as good as they are today is because of the foundation that Bruce Lee laid down all those years ago. Hes the father of MMA, so if today you have good fighters its because of Bruce. Whether anyone today can beat Bruce Lee (because of the foundation that he laid down in the first place) is irrelevant. This is also like the student who learns all he can from his master than in turn tries to defeat their master in combat because they want to be the best. Blatant disrespect. Respect Bruce Lee and give him credit for showing the world how to get it right and say "thank you" rather than worrying if you can beat him decades after he has left us. To the jealous Bruce Lee haters-- GET A LIFE.

Allendale Wesley,your statement here-"its about weight classes" is incorrect...For EQUALLY skilled fighters,your statement carries some weight,but White is not as skilled as Lee,as great as White is, Bruce was far superior in skill and speed than White,plus Bruce Lee's strength is that of a heavyweight-every person who got hit by Lee or witnessed Lee hitting 200-300 pound bags knows he had the strength of a heavyweight-in fact his power was superior to most heavyweights. "its about weight classes"-this statement simply does not apply when Bruce Lee is involved.

Force = Mass X Acceleration. And then there’s body mechanics involved. Bruce Lee knew how to get every modicum of power out of every hit. Coupled with what all his peers describe as unparalleled speed, it’s safe to assume he could make up for almost any size disparity
@Truthtella
@Truthtella 8 месяцев назад
Ok but nobody is talking about Jai White's skills and speed it's not just the sides. Equally adept martial art fighters where nobody can tangibly say one was more skillful. Then you have to use other factors to determine outcomes. Size, speed and athleticism become huge factors this is the issue with Bruce fighting Jai. Jai has the size and athleticism to overcome the minor speed difference. You guys are even taking into Bruce would have to talk significant blows from a far larger man to his very small frame. Are you kidding with this nonsense about bruce's supposed speed against a fighter who may be just as fast and more athletic than he was.
@elguerrerox3824
@elguerrerox3824 6 месяцев назад

I agree with what you said Brother Teacher. There are many people who outweighed Bruce Lee and were very good martial artists of their time and they will still tell you that not only could they not beat Bruce Lee, but that it wasn’t even close. These are people who sparred with, tried to fight and later trained with Bruce Lee. Not to mention the fact that he was challenged on the set of Enter the Dragon by two martial artists. One was and extra and one was actually in the movie. The extra jumped off a wall after scoffing at Bruce while he was working on a scene. An eye witness said the Bruce asked the guy to try and kick him. He kicked Bruce and Bruce turn his shoulder into the kick, and destroyed it’s power. Bruce then said “my turn” and kick the extra in the mouth with lightening speed. The kick was so fast that the extra didn’t think he sustained any injury. As he opened his mouth to laugh, his blood and teeth started falling out of his mouth. Another account was of someone who was actually starring in the movie. This person was described at a very big asian guy, ( I believe Bolo Young) who came up to Bruce and made the sign for challenging that was apparently done in China. People were actually a little scared for Bruce just because of the size of this guy. They fought. Bruce Lee overwhelmed him with his hand technique hitting him many times in rapid succession as the guy tried to hit back missing and being blocked and trapped. Then Bruce Lee took the guy to the ground, got him in a toe hold and punch him in his face until he was bloody and submitted. Now, if this was in fact Bolo Young we know that he wasn’t a push over even then. Bruce had ridiculous technique and was literally as fast as lightening with his hands and feet. Also from this fight with (questionably Bolo), he also had consummate grappling skills and could use them interchangeably with his immense striking ability and on a much bigger opponent. It’s a shame that martial artists who should know better than to engage in these hypotheticals will say that could have beat Bruce when he’s not here to defend himself. As bad as Michael Jai White is, I don’t see him fighting in the UFC. I’m pretty sure that Bruce Lee in his prime would have done if he lived in our time, at least once just for proof of concept on his philosophies. In conclusion, I believe Bruce in his prime would have beaten Michael. There is also the issue of us knowing about Bruce Lee and his fighting style. Imagine Michael Jai White trying to fight Bruce Lee in a mental vacuum where he had never seen Bruce before or known of his fighting style. In that case, I believe he would have lost badly because he would not have had the foresight or even training that way he does because Bruce Lee changed all of that ( the way martial arts train and think about martial arts) . Yeah, that was a very unfortunate comment. All I could do was shake my head. Michael should know better.

Im a Bruce Lee fan - but Im not gonna pick sides. Could White beat Lee? Possible. Could Lee beat White? Possible. And thats the point. We have learned through MMA and what not that the guy with supposed adavantage (speed, size, weight, experience or whatever) is not necessarily going to win. One punch could seal the deal. We will never know. Therefor - any claim or guess is pointless. However - I blame two people for that dumb controversy... for one... the interviewer. Why pick on the dead? No better questions to ask? I also blame White for not taking the high way. Why bother to give a straight answer (though he was probably just being honest)? Say he beats Lee in a fight... so what? Does that mean he beats Lee as an entertainer? The interviewer kind of set him up for failure and he failed to recognise that. Lee was also a philosopher who people would listen to... for hours. He fought for his pride and his convictions. He followed his heart and married a white woman. Color didnt bother him so he taught black, withe, yellow students. He disliked bullying and racism so he openly turned his back on asian racists. He broke down racial barriers, valued friendship and rejected stupidity. He was charming as hell (and very sexy - according to Gina Carano) and as an actor he made people dream, wonder, cry. His ways of expression - in fighting, in acting, while debating, talking... unbelievable. He was one of the first to study martial arts deeply as if it were science. He was not interested in pointless point fights... he was all about pure martial arts and personal fighting styles. He had many interesting facettes - and that made him an icon. No interviewer or martial artist could ever take this away from him. You can try but you will eat crow. To say you could beat Lee is like saying you could outdance MJ, lead better than MLK, be more peacefull than Ghandi... Yeah - you could do all of that. But you wont be an icon because you didnt show humility.

bruce lees weight true weight: youtube watch?v=Eyc438ArL-k "Why did Bruce Lee change his weight training routine so drastically? Based on the reminisces of Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s first US martial arts student, Bruce decided to radically reshape his strength training workouts simply because he wasn’t happy with the functionality of the additional mass. "I noticed that he was bigger after he was weight training. Well, Bruce’s thing was ‘let’s build up the connectors and we won’t worry so much about the size of the muscle.’ Again, Bruce was about function." - Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s first US martial arts student Not much attention is paid to the connective tissues, like ligament and tendon strength. Well, Bruce’s thing was ‘let’s build up the connectors and we won’t worry so much about the size of the muscle.’ Again, Bruce was about function." - Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s first US martial arts student Bruce Lee trimmed down the bulky muscle and lost 35 pounds, yet he became much stronger.

That was extremely well put. I met Bruce in Oakland. Watch him do a demonstration. His speed and power were a force to be reckoned with. I am a fighter. Not professionally but drilling and fighting and I have been beaten once. Why? Speed and knowing what to do before you need to. I weighed 155-168 lbs for 35 years and could do 23-28 one-arm chin-ups on any day. I was nowhere near the shape that my hero from a kid was. But anyone that can hold 55kg straight out on a bar for 20- 30 seconds is a powerful man to go up against. I respect what you said and in closing the world lost a beautiful man way too young. A small guy with a knife can be lethal. It doesn't matter how big his opponent is. Why? Because it doesn't take much to hurt someone with a knife. Same goes with powerful strikes performed by a good martial artists. These strikes can kill, and it doesn't matter what size the target is. Bruce is the most powerful martial artist pound for pound, being hit by him at full force would be certain death. Again, it doesn't matter if you're 100 pounds heavier. It won't help you if you are 300 pounds heavier. Weight only matters in the ring where there are rules and protections. MJW was being careless when he made that statement. With his level of arrogance and foolishness, I'm afraid he has no chance to be among the truly greats. A good martial artists, yes, but for from extraordinary. In a rule-less fight Bruce' speed, power, timing and finesse in techniques would give him huge advantages over MJW. I won't say he will for certain win because any true martial artists know that every fight is unique and highly unpredictable. However, the likelihood that Bruce will win is much higher.

To put it in perspective, put a big guy with two knives and a smaller guy with two knives... this isn't sport. The relative strength (not power, that's another thing) of the two is secondary to the skill / speed / reaction time, etc. This is why in MMA style, about two dozens techniques are banned. Yes, you can 'take' a beating, but in reality, don't expect to 'take' a knife or someone attacking with a 'banned' move. There was an MMA style champ in a street fight and his technique was to put one guy in a head lock and use that guys body to keep him away from the other guy. Another champ was grappling with a guy, and the guy 'tapped out.' The champ automatically let him loose, and was stabbed.

Think of if this way. Do you think someone having size will protect him from being stabbed or shot? When Bruce Lee fired out those straight lead punches and side kicks, the speed and power that he delivered them with was unbelievable! His was not so much a bludgeoning force as it was a deep penetrating force which I equate to being shot. Michael Jai White is very skilled. There's no question about that, but he does not have the kind of speed that Bruce Lee had. Bruce Lee also had strategies in dealing with bigger guys like striking low to bring him down or using angles. I've done this myself in sparring since I'm not a tall guy. I'm sure he was way better at it than me. I think the whole idea is ridiculous of White beating Lee.

You dumb fuck there is a limit to how fast a human limb can move. Bruce Lee cant move any of his limbs 100 mph. Theres just limits. He cant hit with the power of anything beyond his anatomical design....he can only go to his max. MJW is fast asf probably just as fast as Bruce Lee in a lot.of reapects(kicking). Mjw is just the better fighter. In the actual danger of a fight Bruce Lee would be backpedaling. MJW would connect with a strong kick or punch that would incapacitate Bruce. I mean god damn hes not a tiger. Hollywood got you guys fucked up. Martial arts isnt the sure fire way to win a fight because a lot of it "art" forms more than fighting. A stagnate opponent isnt how fights go down.

@@DualPurpose I don't know who said anything by 100 mph limbs. In Matt Polly's new bio, he has an recent email from 'Judo' Gene LaBell: "Bruce was the best of his era." Polly also interviewed Vic Damone on the story that BL embarrassed two of his bodyguards. He said no, but this happened: It was Sammy Davis' humongous bodyguard (his words) and Lee tied him up in split seconds, his arms locked, and his legs off-balanced. He didn't even have to hurt him. During dinner Big John Hopkins was peppering BL. Damone whispered to Jay Sebring: "First time I ever saw Big John kiss ass!" We're not talking about Hollywood. Over ten year period in America there are literally hundreds of witnesses. And those who didn't know him also have the highest regard: Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Manny Pacquiao. Go see what these greats say about Bruce Lee. Are they fan boys? Real bad asses know that BL is the real thing. For example, a friend's family was threatened by crips (craps). He went over to their crib, room to room, end of story. Lucky there was no gunplay, but still pretty bad ass. No more threats. Founder of SEAL team six has the highest regards for BL, and the list goes on.

He also took o 5 of us attacking him and we are all taller and bigger than him 5'10 to 6' it was again amazing. Now we could tell what he did would be useful in a fight but at the same time we weren't in fight mode. Mjw is no slouch. He carries 8 or 9 black belts himself. Bruce us know going against a ver skilled bigger fighter. He could possess enough speed and skill to overcome him at that point. And i mentioned 100 mph because people said he was so unbelievably fast....like he some dbz character. Like as fast he could've been is tied to the human form. @ironpt12

Speed is a universal factor that means a whole lot. Skill, strength and weight are all contributing factors, but someone being noticeably faster can take all that out of the equation. Someone who is fast enough can elude every move you make, making their skill and strength meaningless. Someone who is fast enough can punch you or kick you and you may not be able to block what you can't see coming. Speed is one thing Bruce obviously had way more of then Mike. that factor alone could be reliably be the reason for Bruce being a victor over him

I did ITF - International Teakwondo Federation for 10 + years.I am 5 foot 7 and at that time around about 1997 i trained extremely hard and my fighting weight was 57kg.I Had a 28 inch waist .Anyways when i sparred, i sparred hard - my club practiced full contact, kickboxing style and i sparred with various weight categories ,and at different clubs. We wore boxing gloves, sparring boots, mouth guard, and cups for males.I started reading alot about Bruce Lee's JKD and got very interested in the whole concept of evasive fighting. Moving in with interception , attacking and getting out without getting hit.I tried to apply this philosophy to my sparring technique. Needless to say i spent more time using evasive footwork trying to feint attacks, get in without getting hit etc then actually sparring!. I quickly learnt that I preferred the old run of the mill sparring session where i knew i would get hit, punched in the face , kicked in the stomach moving in for the attack , but i would be reciprocating with the punching and kicks as well. It's the nature of a fight you are going to get hit when moving in to attack. Bruce Lee system advocates on being elusive , slippery - get in and never get hit. Another issue was the difference in weight and reach. I struggled at 57kg to fight a man 70+, 80+ kg. So i upped my weight to 70 kgs , moved slower but i could last the sparring sessions with heavier hitters.Reality is very different to myth!Bruce Lee was revolutionary in his thoughts and philosophy, but he never used it in a real ring environment like todays UFC and MMA fighters.

If you can't see, you can't find your target, nor can you defend yourself from further attacks.

True. Everyone that knew Bruce have said that he was a "street fighter" he did not care about points, or rules, his thinking was how do I win this fight the fastest possible way. Efficient. His mastery on fighting arts combined with speed and cutthroat mentality made him dangerous, no matter the size of the enemy. If mjw asked Lee to spare with him, he might of won. But if Lee challenged mjw ib a real fight the outcome would be different. It's different to train your whole life knowing there will be rules, than train your whole life, to be able to end fights fast when there are no rules.

@dnomyarakunawik38 You’re really misinformed, mate. Lee said that almost all of the flashy stuff was for entertainment purposes only, but in reality, he preferred to keep things as simplistic as possible by counter / pre-emptively attacking the primary targets. For instance if someone grabs you, Lee suggested that you stomp down on his foot as hard as you can instead of grappling back. Tarsal bones are fragile and susceptible to breakage, esp when wearing shoes, as they act like knuckle dusters. You break his foot bones, he can’t walk or do anything. Combat sports have restrictions and are not so effective in real life. For instance, what if a prime, bare knuckle Iron Mike Tyson or a Kimbo Slice came at you - trying to remove your head from your shoulders? You’d be a suicidal fool to go toe to toe boxing them, that’s why you avoid duelling and be direct by trying to counter-attack the nuts / eyes, etc, at any given opportunity. And I stress ‘counter-attack’ because when your opponent is in attack mode, this is when he’s most susceptible to being hit because he’s not thinking defence. So, as he lunges at you with a flurry of punches, this is the perfect time to kick him in the cajones.

I agree, and just from personal experience, As a black belt, somewhere about 2007 Being 40 years old and 150 lb. I finally made it to the Grand championships at an AAU tournament. My opponent was a young man about 25 and I think they said he weighed in at 320 lb. First I never thought I would make it that far, but now it's a heavyweight against the lightweight. First of all I was terrified so I went into survival mode. But from what everybody told me I jumped on him so quick I don't remember anyting The next year I asked where my friend was, and they said you beat him so bad he came back and said he didn't want to take karate anymore. I feel bad, I wish I could remember what happened, but obviously this is true. And my son is about 240 so he basically outweighs me by 100 lb. So when he plays and revs it up a little bit and I match him then he says no I'm getting too serious. But I'm just playing to see if I can tag him. I was 40 then, I'm 55 now. Son just turned 21. I can hold my own, but I can testify that size really doesn't matter. Have to have some skill. Thank you again Master Stroud, "Brother Teacher" Domo arigato gozaimasu Walter san

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is over 7 foot and when they interviewed him he said he had a lot of trouble with Bruce Lee when sparring him... And Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was really good also... There's you an example of size to no effect on Bruce... Plus didn't Bruce Lee have drawings of 300 lb man and he trained on a 300 lb bag and did isometrics to the point that he got amazingly strong able to pick up an individual with one hand, able to hold a 70 lb barbell locked out in front of him for several seconds when men who could bench 500 lb could not do that... Yes they make fun of him and say that he could only squat 95 lb... That was really very unintelligent because Bruce Lee was training his cardio he probably did thousands of reps with that 95 lb but that did not mean that was all he could lift... listen to the interview with Jim Kelly what he had to say about Bruce Lee compared to the Contemporary champions of that day

Bruce Lee slept...ate...lived...and dedicated his life to martial arts combat. Its the speed, agility, mental calmness and striking power that wins a fight. Read Bruce Lee's The Tao of Jeet Kun Do and you'll see why I say these things. Besides this he was taught how to use nunchakus by Danny Inosanto, a Phillipine escrima stick legend and Bruce's master was Yip Man who they swear was magic due to the belief defying things that he did in competition exhibits. Every piece of film we or anyone claims they've seen about Bruce Lee, MJW has seen it and probably more times than you. And even still he says he could win that fight. Clearly he thinks he can win. We'll never know who would have won or lost, but I'm happy to see the confidence and I don't think its disrespectful to a legend to say you believe you are better. It's not fair to the future of progress to think we've seen the best ever of all time, at any time.

Simple physics.... moving targets aren’t easy to hit. His fitness and skill set plays a major role during combat. It would be something Bruce would have to study first. We can easily know MJW couldn't beat Bruce Lee (if Bruce were alive today), just the on the simple fact that Michael Jai White is still alive, and he has yet to accomplish any of the amazing feats Bruce had. Even Donnie Yen thinks Bruce was better than himself, and Donnie Yen is really good. What MJW stated is like saying he can be Donnie Yen ... So I say pit Michael Jai White against Donnie Yen, and lets see how that plays out. If he can't beat Donnie, it's not likely he could have beaten Bruce. If you ask me, the whole thing is a publicity stunt to make MJW relevant again. Don't ask him about a dead icon, ask him if he can beat Tony Jaa. Better yet, ask MJW if he thinks he could beat DK YOO. That's as close to Bruce Lee as he's going to get, and I think he would lose. I'm just saying ...

One's hubris will be one's downfall. (David vs. Goliath, anyone?) Bigger is not always Best. Wolverines have been known to take on Bears, ya know. In this fight, I am simply of the opinion that the victor would likely be the one who exploits the other opponent's mistakes first. Bruce Lee against Michael Jai White, in their respective primes. The Fight's over the second one of the makes a mistake.... I can't see Bruce making many, but as a great fighter who was constantly training to be pragmatically and readily convert speed into power through the most efficient economy of motion,...... uhm, I definitely don't see Michael being able to take Bruce Lee out.... I suspect any professional fighter who fought against Bruce Lee,.... would likely say the bigger guy is absolutely not guaranteed to be the winner.... If That punch hits you in the right spot..... you will not be standing. That has been my experience in and outside of the ring. Am I wrong in this assessment?

MrPdub1978 ....If you are a true street fighter you learn to battle even while laying on the ground. Most big guys who have no martial arts experience...TRUE martial arts experience are comfortable with their size as an intimidating factor. Take out the knees..a pressure blow to the throat and a back hand snap to the solar plexus and the fight is over. Regardless of weight or size. As Bruce taught...be like water. Fluid in strikes and penetrating just like water flowing through rock. From my days as a club bouncer I would envision that the opponent that I faced had a head made of ceramic. Many went to the ER with cracked jaws and skulls. The average fight should take no more than 3 minutes tops if your opponent isn't dancing around like a rabbit in heat. When he tries to taunt you by sticking his head out and back and forth, time his movements like a snake and knock him the fuck out with a snap blow. Now don't be deceived that ALL big guys are easy to take down because if you encounter a true artist who has size AND experience exercise caution because underestimation could be your undoing.

A very good observation by you on this subject. First off, nobody can really say what would have happened for certain had they both met in a sparring contest. Sijo Lee has been gone for many years now, so obviously we'll never know what might have gone down. However, saying that, I'd like to give my personal opinion. I've been a JKD Instructor for just about 18 years now, and I've seen some extremely fast and powerful folks in the martial arts. But to me, Bruce was on another plain. The combination of his speed and power, make him second to none. Now I've never met the man, so I've obviously never had the opportunity to spar with him. But going by what other martial artists have said, he was without a doubt, the absolute best. Grandmaster Bob Wall, who knew Bruce very well, and had sparred with him, says this also. I believe his exact words were, "He had the speed of a lightweight, but hit like a heavyweight." James DeMile, who was a student of Lee's, said he would put him against anyone, no matter what size or weight, and he woulld put his money on Bruce. And the late Jim Kelly, who also trained and sparred with Lee, said he was "Absolutely untouchable!" And the list go's on and on. And from what I know about Bruce Lee, it's a fact. He could beat any challenger. His speed (hand and foot), was just blinding. And he generated enormous power from that incredible speed. His timing, coordination, reflexes and stamina were just amazing. So, I personally thing he would have made short work of anyone he faced, including White.

1. Could Bruce beat Michael? Yes 2. Could Michael beat Bruce? Yes 3. Here's why....fighting isn't all skill, it isn't all size. A skilled fighter could go up against an amateur fighter and still lose. If you happen to be smarter in a 1v1 scenario and use those mistakes that your opponent makes then you always have a chance at winning. Both Michael and Bruce are very skilled. Anyone could make the argument that one is more so than the other. What I think he was getting at by saying that he could beat Bruce was that with the amount of skill he has and the size he has he stood a solid chance at winning. We all know the strength of Bruce but I think a lot of people are downplaying Michael's strength. Bruce was 5'7 Michael is 6'1....that's a 6 inch difference so I think it's safe to assume that Michael would have a greater reach over Bruce. Bruce was roughly 130 pounds and Michael is roughly 230 pounds. 100 pounds of muscle is a big difference I don't care how you look at it. If you took 2 regular people off the street no fighting style no nothing and one is 5'7 130 pounds roughly 6-8% body fat and another that is 6'1 230 pounds roughly 8-10% body fat who are you going to put your money on? Basically there are a lot of things Bruce has in his favor to win and there are a lot of things Michael has in his favor to win. But honestly this has been blown way out of proportion since Michael was just asked a simple question on if he could win against another fellow martial artist and he had the confidence in himself to say that he would win. How many fights have you seen where one of the fighters says before the match that the other one could beat him? If you are giving away the win to the other fighter then there really isn't that much of a reason to even have the fight is there?
@MysticNinjaJay
@MysticNinjaJay 6 лет назад
Not only was Michael Jai White asked a simple question on a radio show where he was asked to give a quick answer, when the hosts were baffled by his answer ("Me") and asked if he seriously thought he could beat Bruce Lee he educated them on the fact that he outweighed Bruce Lee by 100 pounds and size matters in a fight. The hosts believed in the Bruce Lee mythology. That's why they asked the question and that's why they were surprised by the answer. No one who knows anything about Martial Arts should question whether or not a high level Martial Artist who is significantly bigger than another high level Martial Artist could beat them. Now White was a bit arrogant in his response (he's trying to be funny for the entertainment of the audience). He was exaggerating when he said that Bruce Lee could run across the street and hit him. You can be hurt by a smaller man but the question is blow for blow who is going to have more durability when it comes to these two fighting each other? A 135 pound man is going to have a much harder time withstanding the strikes of a 230 pound man. Then you factor in height and reach which are in White's favor in addition to size and strength and White simply has a lot of physical advantages. His physical fitness is clearly at a high level. He's fast and flexible. The only real advantage Bruce Lee has is speed but he's not so fast that White can't hit him. Smaller fighters tend to be faster because of gravity but even the fastest among them can not overcome significant size and strength advantages. That's why they have weight classes in combat sports and size also matters on the street with no rules. A smaller man has a better chance to beat a bigger man if there is a weakness they can exploit but there are no weaknesses I know of that Bruce Lee could have exploited against Michael Jai White. I would even argue that White is more skilled than Bruce Lee was as he's benefited from modern training, won Martial Arts competitions and spars with very high level fighters including world champions in Boxing and MMA. Winning is not impossible for Bruce Lee but I would put my money on Michael Jai White. Honestly it's not even a fair comparison. We should be talking about Michael Jai White vs. Jean Claude Van Damme. There are plenty of professional fighters that I think could beat White as well so he's not the best fighter ever or even necessarily the best Martial Arts movie star but he could beat Bruce Lee.

MysticNinjaJay Yeah i agree pretty much, leverage is a smaller fighters chance as well but they have to be skilled in using leverage and i am not sure bruce lee exploited such fighting concepts.

That's the same dumb shit that people were saying before Floyd Mayweather carried Conor for 10 rounds before neatly closing the book on that bs. NO Michael could NOT beat Bruce Lee because he is NOT EQUALLY SKILLED and nowhere NEAR as quick, not even on the same level of existence athletically, or combat IQ. Bruce Lee had already SOLVED the "riddle" of Japanese martial arts man. The difference is checkers and chess, not just physically. Mentally, if you don't know how BASIC the knowledge that size is NOT the determining factor in a fight of skill, then you're a virgin to ACTUAL fighting. MJW would be like kicking an old person to Bruce Lee.

If you're quoting from a book written in 1987, then you're not quoting Bruce Lee. He died in 1972. Bruce Lee has many fans living today who are celebrities and accomplished martial artists. They say he backed down from no fight and always destroyed whoever challenged him. There are also video footage of him doing demonstrations where he shows incredible skills that no man has come close to. I recommend you start listening to people who knew him personally, and not someone who wrote a book trying to make money.

Many people confuse size with strength and they tend to forget that you lite weight power lifters. You even have midgets that can power lift. Bruce Lee has 9 world records for feats of strength that know one has broken yet.

@Uberboy07

Rocky Louie I disagree. Size does matter, because the body is matter, and everything from the void has materialized. Size just matters in different ways, like size matters for us being able to stomp an ant without much thought, and how a mouse can fit through a hole you can't. For the smaller man attributes like nimbleness and lactic acid endurance is prevalent, and for the larger man legnth and weight is common

Rocky Louie stop telling lies and making funny stories up. michael jai white never beat anybody that was 7'2 tall. I think you've been watching mikey's movie "Blood And Bone" way too many times. What are you 10 years old? Another thing michael jai white is not a professional fighter. He doesn't fight for a living. He's just a martial arts actor that does straight to dvd films for a living.

I would say this: From what I've seen, Bruce may be the fastest human fighter that ever lived. Add that to the fact that he had awesome skills as well. Statistically, in a fight against a heavier and slower opponent like MJW, there is like a 99% chance that Bruce would connect the first hit. If that hit is to a weak/vital spot, the fight would be over. Even if MJW was 350 lbs it wouldn't matter. My money is on Bruce.

Even though it was a movie, that kick to O'Hara in Enter the Dragon was just vicious. Plus at the end, even though itnwas obviously a dummy, the power and speed which Bruce kicked Han down was insane. Plus, he actually fought Bolo, who also had a huge size advantage and Bolo was no match for Bruce.
@1azrealdeal
@1azrealdeal Год назад
Bruce Lee never fought Bolo. Bolo has stated that it was a complete mis-match fighting Bruce…..as Bruce Lee was a far superior fighter. The size of Bolo would not have made a difference…Lee was in a league all his own.
@hoaxialcable
@hoaxialcable Год назад
@@1azrealdeal he did actually fight him or more so was respectfully challenged by Bolo but it was more like a real sparring match where Bolo just wanted to test his level and he was no match. Bolo actually mentioned that Bruce was regularly challenged in HK when making Enter The Dragon and he would just destroy his challengers...”he was just too fast”. I’m not suggesting he had beef with Bolo, it was Bruce after all who wanted Bolo in his movies.

Mjw's skills are top tier level. He's easily one of the fastest, strongest and superior skilled martial artists in the world to date. His body has been hard conditioned due to his primary martial system, Kyokushin. He can move exceptionally fast and agile for a man of his height and weight. Bruce would have superior speed and some superior technique. But, MJW would win. Period.
@legendary8838
@legendary8838 4 года назад
With 7 to 8 black belts I'd say MJW is very skilled. Fast and agile for a guy hits size. If there's a few I think could give Bruce a good run, win or lose I'd say MJW is one of the very few

I know this video is over two years old, but I felt compelled to comment. First, I respect you and your opinion. I've watched a lot of your videos and I am becoming a fan :) Second, I am a fan of Bruce. Bruce is part of the reason that many of us - myself included - became martial artists. So what I'm about to say is in no way meant to be disrespectful to Bruce or his memory. But come on. Let's be realistic. It's AWESOME to think that size doesn't matter. That's one of the greatest selling points of traditional martial arts. And to some extent that is true. I have seen a 90 lbs. girl tap out a 150 lbs. boy when the girl was trained and the boy was not. That definitely happens. No question. The problem arises when BOTH combatants are trained. When two people are trained, SIZE ABSOLUTELY MATTERS. 100% That is the entire reasons why there are weight classes in every combat sport - boxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, MMA. Let's take who some consider to be the greatest boxer in the world - Floyd Mayweather. There is no question that he is super slick and super fast. No question. But if - even in his prime - you were to put him in the ring with just an AVERAGE heavyweight, Floyd get's destroyed. No question. If Floyd was being honest, he would tell you the same thing. And it's 100% the reason why he never did and never would have fought for the heavy weight championship. If he thought he could beat a heavyweight, he would have. Weight classes impose limits, not minimums. They say what the heaviest is you can be, not the lightest. In MMA, there is probably no more skilled mixed martial artist than Demetrius Johnson. The dude does things that defy physics. There is no better wrestler in the 125 lbs. division, no better wrestler, and his bjj is on par with the best. He holds the record for the longest title reign in UFC history. And yet, if you put him in the cage with just an AVERAGE light heavy weight, DJ gets destroyed. Easy. Now we can argue that boxing and MMA are rule sets and that in a "street fight" things would be different and all sorts of other hypotheticals. But the bottom line is, when you have two highly trained and highly skilled combatants, size absolutely matters. And the reason why combat sports enforces weight classes is not to protect to the bigger combatant from the smaller combatant. It's to protect the smaller combatant from the bigger one.
