Craftsman (Murray) Snow Blower Auger Belt, Drive Belt, and Friction Wheel Replacement. This is not a HOW To video - it's more like a "how I did it" video.

Thanks man I could not figure out how to install the damn drive belt on my Murray. removing the swing plate shaft made it easy to install , by the way I did not see any one else on utube give that advice , good for you.

Thanks - that's what I needed to know to replace the auger belt. The manual didn't have the steps to unscrew the auger housing and it wasn't obvious to me. Looks like videos showing the newer models don't have the belt clearance issue. This one is not the easiest to maintain, i have to say!

Great video. I came here hoping I wouldn't have to break the unit in half. Wishful thinking . . . HAHAHA. Appreciate your time making this video!

The forks that move the friction wheel on mine had no washers on the inside of them. The forks would detach from the ears when I shifted into reverse. Your video showed me the problem. Thanks

i think what i read was that you take a rachet with a socket on the tensioned wheel drive pulley and just twist on the bolt in the pulley with the rachet so you release the tention long enough to pop the belt on and off instead of removing the spring i read something like this if you anyone understands what im talking about lol

So, I'm guessing that next time your drive is slipping, it may be worth while to make a guard like you did first to stop the snow and water from getting into the belt and friction plate area first and see if that works before replacing the friction wheel. Great video. Thank You.
@SevenFortyOne
@SevenFortyOne 9 лет назад
Yes - I think the guard helped a lot more than replacing the belts/friction wheel...and since I used scrap I had lying around, the guard was a lot cheaper.

Hello everyone I Removed & Replace the Traction Belt by cracking my 2008 Craftsman 7.75 Hp 26 inch, 208cc, 950 Torque Briggs & Stratton. I Removed the Friction disk Bar off to have enough Clearance for the Traction belt Removal & replacement. On this machine the way it's set up I had to do it this way. I purchased this machine 15 years ago and they are Great and very reliable. Trust your Skills, You can do this. Take it & FIX- IT BY YOURSELF & SAVE YOUR MONEY. GOOD DAY LADIES & GENTLEMEN. 👀❤🇺🇸

I have the same Craftsman Blower featured in your videos. My problem is that the friction wheel and friction disc plate remain engaged sending power to the wheels despite the traction lever position. Removed bottom cover and took off traction lever cable. Everything seems in good condtion. The friction disc plate assembly moves freely when i remove the rubber friction wheel. But when i put it back in, the wheel and the disc plate are touching immediately. My question is this, Is there an adjustment on the shaft that the friction disc plate that coulld loosen or shift, causing the friction disc plate to push closer to the friction wheel. The whole movable assembly is in its proper guides and in its backmost position and moves properly when the friction wheel is out of the way but when i put it back, there isnt any gap. Is it the disc plate shaft or bolt that may have shifted causing it to move closer to the rubber friction wheel. THANKS
@SevenFortyOne
@SevenFortyOne 10 лет назад
I don't recall there being any adjustments or anything that can move but there are two washers that need to be installed on the insides of the drive lever fork assembly (11:25 in my video). Positioning the washers incorrectly may cause some problems with the friction wheel engagement. Not knowing the history of your machine, is it possible the wrong friction wheel assembly was installed at some point in the past? An oversize diameter friction wheel could obviously cause a problem. Without seeing yours or having mine apart in front of me I'm not sure what else to look at at the moment...

SevenFortyOne Hey just an update on the snowblower.After removing the friction plate, on the back of it, there is a female threaded shaft where the bolt attaches it to the frictioon plate assembly; that is machine stamped into the back of the friction plate. Somehow that stamped in threaded piece managed to lift out by about a 1/4 inch. Enough to push the friction plate into contact with the friction wheel. I didnt have a new plate available but i was able to hammer it back down into the plate and reinstall it and got back in business

Thanks. I've the same model. Those plastic chutes. Sears sent me a new one. Before putting it on I sanded it and covered it with 4 layers of glass and cloth epoxy resin with 2 layers more to fair it in and over the impact areas and deflector shield. Then painted it black for UV protection.. Now nothing cracks if the thing picks up a rock in a snowbank. The plastic has become more of an impact absorbing liner, bullet proof.
@SevenFortyOne

+Raul Escobar Interesting....I never thought of trying that. Sounds like a good solution!
@scottfirman

Raul Escobar Those chutes were crap. I remember changing a few of them. The blower bone yard never had any because they all did that. Stupid thin plastic. I miss the metal ones.

I have this snow blower.( 2005 vintage ) I just did this repair. The replacement partsparts available thru repair clinic..this vid has a lot of important steps missing. what tools are needed? no pm on the other parts that are now exposed.

Have same snowblower. Runs great for first 10 min, then gradually starts dying on me. Keeps running for another minute or two if I increase the choke. Cleaned/disassembled carb and it was no help. Any ideas?
@SevenFortyOne
@SevenFortyOne 10 лет назад
A few things come to mind: Water (or other non-gasoline liquid) in the fuel Partially plugged fuel line or sediment in the fuel tank Carb floats out of adjustment Sticking needle valve Bad carb diaphragm (not sure if the carb on this machine uses one) It may be a good idea to get a carb rebuild kit and replace some of the old parts. Rebuild kits are cheap so even if this isn't the problem you won't be wasting any money.

jets are still plugged ...very small ...get some engine rev or power tune for outboard boat motors , spray it in when its running if you can ,shut it of ,keep spraying a bit more then let it soak for a few hours only! cuz it will eat plastic and gaskets :)
@24revealer
@24revealer 6 лет назад
On my murray mower crap gets in the needle valve seat and it runs like you describe. I just take the needle valve out and blow some compressed air through it and it has fixed it every time. Water in the fuel could also be the problem.

So let me ask you this what gear did you have it in when you took the friction wheel off. The reason why I'm asking this I have a Craftsman snowblower almost like yours and the little shifting for popped off the friction wheel I'm trying to find the right spot to put it back in like what gear

@@SevenFortyOne I'm trying to figure that out now on my Craftsman snowblower. I tried putting the fork that connects to that friction wheel in different spots. To see if it will work right and every gear .

You should actually show what you're doing when you're doing it instead of saying well the belts off and then next frame holding belts on well this shaft is out next frame shafts on why don't you show it being put on and why don't you show the belts being installed actual that would probably be a help
