Next week, hope to have a video about the start of the Sierra trip. Will be departing this week for Yosemite where I will be helped by two friends. During the first two weeks of this trip I hope to do day trips into the park and talk to the rangers about the snow conditions. Yosemite got 240% of the normal snow amounts, and the road to Tioga Pass, where all my planned hikes start from is still closed due to snow removal and repairs of the road. Blake and my planned backpacking trips start in id-July and end in late August. Even if the road opens in time for the mid-July trips, the areas we plan to backpack might have high amounts of snow. We do have snowshoes, ice cleats and ice axes, but river crossings might be dangerous and un-passable. We have changed our permits so that we can hike into a wilderness area and just set up a basecamp, then after three or four days hike back to the start point. This gives us a safe option and hopefully a safer itinerary.
