Watch Crime Stories Season 3 Episode 8 The Butcher of St. Eustache on Bad Day HQ
Near Montreal, a husband comes home from work and finds his wife bound, gagged and shot in the head. There is no evidence of sexual assault or theft and police are left without a lead to go on. Some years later, police are called out to a crime scene very similar to the scene four years earlier, but this time they find that the killer has stolen the victim's bankcard. They trace the card to a convenience store and by ingeniously matching the security camera to the bank records detectives acquire an image of their prime suspect.

A marriage is a contract --Many people stay together "For the kids" and/or because esp for guys divorce is ruinously expensive. And for women, raising kids as a single divorced mom is quite difficult. So...both stay together, sort-of, for another 15 years, while occasionally 'cheating, 'for relief.

Everyone deserves legal representation, without defence lawyers there would be much more innocent people in jail. Also most defence lawyers dont get to pick and choose whos case they are going to take. At least puplic defenders cant. Didn’t Anna Marie realize that all married men that cheat on their wives promise to divorce their wives? I don’t think stabbing the clothes was fighting his obsessions, but rather was the step leading to the actual violence. Just as peeping is a precursor to rape and violent assAults. I love how the killer makes it like he was the victim cause he couldn’t break it off with Anna Maria. Kathy Reichs is one of my favorite authors! She wrote the “Bones” books.

I know someone murdered by a boyfriend who shot her 17 times and stabbed her 22times and she was pregnant, while her 2 sons ,ages 2and 5 watched it all. Oh and so did her mom because she was talking to her on the phone. The guy hung up the phone. The girls mom, boy's grandmother came over right away and the youngest was wiping up his mommys blood with his underwear and the older was pulling the knife out of her. They all knew her killer, he got life which in Canada is 25 years. He was let out after 12. Disgusting, there are so many of these freaks coming out of the woodwork that we need to bring capital punishment back. We shouldn't have to pay for them for the rest of there lives. They give more rights to the criminals than the victims. Just get rid of them and not 10 or 15 years later either.

Obviously, what you have described is very despicable, and it's well away from the norms. Nonetheless, the reason we have the judiciary system is to find out why someone had gone this long, and as a result punishes them accordingly or treat them where necessary. There are two main purposes when imprisoning someone. First one is to keep the society safe from the criminal. Secondly, to reform the person and make him a good citizen. And the two go hand in hand. If you believe that the prison term given to the man is not sufficient for the crime he had committed, you can still campaign to have the law changed through your legislature. People make mistakes, and some mistakes are more drastic than others.

Well, no. The sentence was "25 years to life". This means that he must serve 25 years and then be eligible for parole. More than half of lifers never leave prison except in a plain pine box. Sadly, no penal system is perfect. The US tends to impose stiff sentences, but prisoners are too often released (very) early. How else do murderers have "records as long as your arm" ? Murderers seem to get out to kill again on a pretty regular basis.

I suffer form the scenario you mentioned before I immigrated to Canada form Taiwan, you see after Taiwan signed the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, criminals of vicious crimes punishable by death are immune to death penalty when pleaded insane or mentally challenged, thus all most all serial killers pleaded insane or mentally challenged to avoid being shot, a resulting scenario is that Taiwanese society start treating anybody with any mental challenge (include Autistic Spectrum Disorder which I am in the spectrum) like a potential serial killer and hate crime against against such people is often exempted form prosecution on a case by case scenario (depend on the mood of the crown or the law enforcement officer) hence such people with higher function capability end up living in a closet sometimes more so than gay people (although people in Taiwan generally don't accept LGBTQ themseves, they tolarated cuz most Taiwanese don't care, but if you are mentally challanged and or autistic you are the scapegoat of the society, so we exhausted our brain capacity to pretend we are not most of the time )

It's easy to blame the first victim for going after a married man, but I remember in Silence of the Lambs they state the first victim in a series of murders is usually somebody the serial killer knew or was close to. I do not believe the first woman was pushing a relationship with him that he did not want. I believe he picked her out and led her on with full intent of hurting her.

As a mother of 3, if I thought one of my children (even if they were grown adults) was in danger or something was wrong, you'd have to kill me to stop me from getting to my child. If there was a 99% chance that I'd die trying to save my children and only a 1% chance I'd succeed, I'd take that chance without hesitation. I say this because it's true and it's why I don't understand the response of some parents like the mother of the Chantel woman in this story. At first Chantel's mother says she thinks something happened to her daughter but she doesn't want to go into her daughter's house to check on her. Then she hesitantly goes in only after her other daughter decides to go in and she hides behind her other daughter, like a human shield from the potential danger. And lastly, when her daughter sees Chantel's body and tells her mom to leave, SHE LEFT! What kind of mother does that?!?! I can't imagine. I'm not a perfect mom, far from it. But one thing I can say is that there's no situation too dangerous or disturbing that I wouldn't rush into guns blazing for one of my babies.

Our high recidivism rate in Canada does not reflect our concentration on reform and sentences which rarely reflect the seriousness of the offense. It's not difficult to behave in prison and to earn " good time " and it's equally easy to fool the Parole Board. We are not even allowed to have any idea of how many sex offenders live in our neighborhood. This is nerve wracking when you are trying to keep your children safe from predators.

The husband who cheats is just as selfish as you, and will become a well deserved problem for you. Good men don't cheat.
