Could you build a 5.9l with a 9 or 13 speed Eaton Fuller in a Ford 1 ton?
@jacobclubb5624
@jacobclubb5624 3 года назад
Sure could, just depends on how much money you want to throw at it, and what year you got depends on how much you cut. The trans tunnel will need cut out and a new one made, the firewall may need to be cut higher for the flywheel housing, and if its 4wd either an adapter made for a married case, or a divorced case be run. And you better have a dana 60 under the front if it's 4wd to hold the weight. Theres a guy who did a facebook write up on a 10 speed in a dodge with a married transfer case.

tennesseeHOSS91Wayne Johnson gentleman, this is an old school 13 speed the shift pattern is similar to the 10 or 15 speed but it goes as follows. deep reduction 1 2 3 flip button low range or direct as it used to be referred to 4 5 6 7 8 flip button to high range 9 10 11 12 13. this transmission was typically spec in vocational trucks IE dump trucks and my first experience with it was in a 1981 international 2500 with a DT 466 and very low rear end gears lots of grunt not lots of speed. With that said check your facts before you comment .

Having that single range selector seemed much easier for me to remember. Just as you said, 1,2,3, flip to next range, 4,5,6,7,8, flip to final range, and 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.

@SternDrive
@SternDrive 5 лет назад
@@shawnjarman9860 You can't count man. Watch it again! He shifted 13 times. Actually it is a 15 speed. He started in deep reduction. Then flipped to low range. Then finally flipped to high range and shifted 13 times. On these 15 speeds I start in deep reduction 2nd go to 3rd. Then flip to low range and back to 2nd and on up to 5th. Then flip to high range and back to 1st and on up to top gear. Great fun! Been driving these for 43 years and it never gets old for me. The reason I love 15 speed transmissions is because all ranges are close ratio. A modern 13 speed is wide ratio in low range, and then close ratio in high range only if you use the splitter. Close ratio transmissions sound so nice with a Cat engine. Now that is music to my ears!
@MerlynAStern
@MerlynAStern 5 лет назад
Nunya Business You seem to be new to this business of driving trucks. I have 3 1/2 million miles long haul under my belt. Let me try to educate you. The transmission here is a 15 speed, but only has 12 or 13 usable gears. You do not split these transmissions. There is no splitter. You instead have a range selector. There are three ranges. Deep reduction. Low range and then High range. In this video the guy shifted all three ranges. He started in deep reduction. Shifted 1, 2 and 3. Then he flipped the range selector to Low range and shifted 1,2,3,4, and 5. Then he flipped the range selector to High range and shifted 1,2,3,4, and 5. Watch it again. On a 13 speed to use all gears you could start in Low, then 2,3,4 and 5. Then you flip the range selector to High, and go back to 2 low, 2 high, 3 low, 3 high, 4 low, 4 high, 5 low and 5 high. Count 'em. That is thirteen shifts. You however do not need to start in low range low. Most guys start in low range 2. Stupid clutch burners start in low range 3. The boss does not like the smell of burning clutches though. BTW, on any 13 speed you can split all high range gears up and down. On an 18 speed you can split all Low range and High range gears, up or down, if you like. Hope this helps. I am a driver trainer, and if you need additional information I am always happy to help. Drive safe !
@carlwilliams1570
@carlwilliams1570 3 года назад
Had the same 13 speed in a gas 427 powered C70 GMC tandem log truck. Instead of a high and low range selector the splitter was 3 positions. Low-intermediate - high. Low was 1,2,3 split to intermediate back to 1 like a 10 or 15 speed shift 1-5 split to high repeat 1-5. You could shift all 5 positions in low split to intermediate but drop back to 3 rd and continue because of ratio overlap. It didn’t shift like the traditional 13 speeds more like a 15 speed.

@247copenhagen high low splitter is the little lever in the front of the shifter. then the gear splitter is under his thumb. splitter back lever down, gears 1,2,3. then splitter forward lever down back to 1 for 4th then shift through the pattern so 4,5,6,7,8 then lever up and back to 1 again for 9,10,11,12,13. count it at the begining of the vid. looks like roadranger 10 speed pattern with the splitter added for 3 low gears at the begining.

This is a 15 speed. You can tell by the splitter color and shift pattern. A 13 speed has a red splitter. A 15 speed has a blue splitter and an 18 speed has a gray splitter.
@Labrador_Iron
@Labrador_Iron 9 лет назад
jholzer1989 the older RT613 that this truck has, has 3 ranges, low, intermittent, and direct. you shift 3 gears in low, 5 in intermittent and 5 in direct. the original knob would have been the old round chrome knob with a thumb selector that had low, int , dir stamped in it. to use a new style knob due to the shift pattern you must use the blue splitter knob commonly used on 15 speed. 7LL and 8LL transmissions.

ike fun the color blue for deep reduction trans red for 13 and grey for 18 is the standard for all someone may have changed the button it's self but deep reduction, blue button can't be switched in high range red button 13 speed can only be switched in high range grey 18 either range they do this purposely so a truck without a shift pattern sticker the driver would have a heads up to the transmission I think a super 10 trans has a red splitter but no range switch that could be your confusion and the blue buttoned 13 was probably a 15spd

@INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D
@INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D 6 лет назад
tim h twin stick would be easier. If you have a 4 speed ford or Chevy Borg warner or Muncie Advance adapters makes a 2 speed overdrive for them. It's a manual so it turns your 4 into a twin stick 8 speed. They say it's not compatible with the nv4500 5 speed but the input shafts are the same only difference is the spacing in the bolt pattern.... i did the math on it. And it would be a great splitter for a 5 speed. Reducing rpm by 27 % making the jump between gears a lot smaller so the engine gets bogged down less. And can operate at a consistent pace and save fuel. .... only issue is. The fact the both the aux and 5th gear are 27% OD SO 5th becomes a 27% OD overlapped gear rendering it kinda useless So it would be a 9 speed that you would shift 10 times....
@StumpyVanLife
@StumpyVanLife 12 лет назад
@247copenhagen I looked up RT613 on google. It is essentially a 15 speed trans where 2 of the low low gears overlap. So it is called a 13 speed. You shift 1-2-3 in deep low, go up to intermediate 4-5-6-7-8 range shift to high shift 9-10-11-12-13. I think it was used in medium duty trucks like large dump trucks. I drove for 12 years and never ran across this either. There are to many variations to claim you know it all I guess....

OK first of all he was just showing how many gears it has by starting in first if he isn't towing he starts off in a higher gear and damn I bet this thin is quick. Second its a smaller engine so this many gears while hauling would be a lot better then what the truck came with me I've only driven 8 and 10 speeds but I can see where hauling heavy loads in a smaller truck this would benefit. @Megazerox336 Engine Brake. Their are two type, "jake" brakes and exhaust brakes. This one sounds like a jake, but I'm pretty sure they only make exhaust brakes for the small cummins :/

@MrDodgeman3500 you need a #2 engine adp, rto 6610 trans, and a divorced t-case, + time.

whats a good drive axle to use for a transmission like that? I was going to go with a gmc full float 8 lug, "14 bolt" (gawr 6000 lbs, gvwr 8600*; citation needed) but I don't want my project truck's drive axles gettin' all snapped up or blow up the pumpkin. I do plan on using a 2 speed bw 1356 t-case for the tandem axles and I hope that it ain't gonna snap up either lol. Is what I described a solid option or would something else be better?

Oh and you can use a throttle switch from NOS or another nitrous kit company to kick the engine brake out when you touch the throttle so you dont have to keep doing it manually, radio shack has them too but not the very useful bracket that comes with a nitrous switch great conversion over all makes me want to do another freak of nature swap like a 3116 cat or 8.3 cummins chevy with a 9 spd.

@6030diesel you should be able to know what gear you are in by looking at the trans. If you can't tell, drive moar.

So, what exactly was the thinking in putting that roadranger and ISL Cummins in that 1-ton truck? Was it capability reasons, or were none of the smaller eaton/spicer 6-speeds tough enough for whatever you use that truck for?

it doesn't have an engine. it's powered by rowing. it is just done cause it can be. I pulled 13k with mine skipping gears. some people like sounding like your clutch is slipping or not engaging.

i wanted a set up like this in my 3500 hd rollback for towing heavy stuff in the mountains , but i got the 6.5 to pull 15 psi up the pass with some tweeking from heath diesel, the cummins is a good choice , i have a 12 valve going in an f350 once i get through this winter.

95-98 Chevy/GMC trucks had a more rounded dash than the 88-94's. The HD "Classic" Silverado/Sierra trucks carried on till 2000.

@Alarichswiftpaw I like how you left out the fact that your answer only applies to newer electronically controlled vehicles. Most older vehicles had cable driven speedo's hooked to the transmission or in the case of 4x4 vehicles, the transfer case. Some of the electronic systems either get the speed from the tone ring on the ABS (usually rear axle - as in your example) or from the engines computer using the RPM's and current gear.

Nice driving man. Idk why people are bashing you for the semi swaps. I find it unique but how's the mpg with the 13 speed vs factory?

This state of the art car goes from 0 to 62 just over fifteen minutes. Boy, don´t they know how to build a cars and then some. That must be the ultimate truck. Look at the interior and the quality of this great thing. And the outside, oh my. It makes me breathless. I mean you have A/C and shit, even a c-cassette player and am-radio. I mean, you just rule dude. What happened to your cars after early 70`s? All those muscle cars what they made and now we have to looke at these? No way, I´m out.

Based on the shift pattern, it is a 10 speed Roadranger, not a 13 speed. A 13 speed only comes to the left/down position for low, then stays in the h pattern for 1-4 and 5-8 with 5-8 having a splitter. This shifter only had one valve, the range selector, with 5 gears on each side and no splitter.
@SternDrive

swf2e Better watch it again. How did he get 13 gears out of a 10 speed? Tens don't do that. He shifted through three ranges. It's a 15 speed. Watch and learn.

How much power does the 13 speeds rob from the engine. I run an inline 292 six cylinder in a C 60 Chevrolet. It gets great fuel mileage for what it is but 4 speed and 2 speed rear has too big of a gap to keep it where it pulls good plus the 2 speed is so slow some times it misses when it should have engaged and when I nail the gas it redlines.
