GENIUS! This is hands down the best tutorial on crown molding. I just could not figure this out for the life of me. Thank you so much for sharing you and your Dad's brilliants!
Thank you! I have done crown so infrequently that I have to brush up on it and this basic concept will now be my go to for painted crown. (The coping method is what I have used in the past.) Appreciate your vid!
Great video. I have watched this several times. One add on to my miter I learned by watching was to add a taller skirt and this enabled me to get a better seat on the crown molding (top and bottom). I simply through bolted a 3/8" finished scrap piece of plywood to the fence on the left and right side of the blade (counter sunk the machine screws). Just make sure when you lower the blade that the housing clears the taller fence when cutting at a 45 degree angle.
The best explanation I have seen on cutting crown molding. I'm installing crown molding in our bathroom today and after watching your video last week...and again this morning, I feel more confident. Thank you !!!
This was the best crown tutorial I've found. I've watched approximately 1254 of them. The goal for me now is to figure out exactly WHAT angle my inside (lazy susan) cabinet is at. Thank you!!
This video really helped me do a crown molding job for a customer. I've always had trouble doing crown. All the videos I saw on RU-vid didn't help. However your video is simple to understand. I watched it several times and the next day I was
Thanks for the information! I watched a few other videos but I came back to yours and kept referring to it. The tape trick is awesome and also writing the notes about which side you are cutting on and the angle of the saw to give the correct cut. Those were key points that helped me a lot. Thanks again!
Hey Michael, sorry for responding so late to your comment. Thank you for letting me know that it helped, make me feel like it was a good use of time for a video that helped many. I hope you have a great New Year and take care.
This video made it so easy! We watched several others and were about to quit until I found this one. Thanks and great job our project turned out great 😉👍
This is perfect. After watching few videos on RU-vid I was able cut the crown. However, remembering which side to cut when was confusing. This perfect. U can write it down and just go for it. For DIY this is great.
Omg!!! Your a genius!! I just cut my crown molding, I can’t believe it, my husband can’t believe, he said it was too hard to difficult, I just freaking did it!!!! Yasssss!!!! You just saved me $700. Thank you!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍
Well, I really am sorry this response to your comment is so late...Responding to all the comments is so time consuming and I actually have a real job. I am very happy for you and for allowing you to attempt something you thought you could not do. I hope you shared your experience with others and possibly this video!!! Also, glad to have saved you all that money. Are there any other home improvement videos that you would like to see? I'd be happy to make one and give you a shout out! Have a Happy New Year!
THANK YOU for this video! I'm fairly handy, but crown molding has been my nemesis for years until this video. GREAT VIDEO! Kitchen cabinet crown installed!
Probably watched like 10 other videos by now but they all just rushed thru it and even forgot to mention a few things like flipping the crown mold before cutting... Happy i stumbled across your video cause its a gem! Should be on top when searching for how to cut crown molding! Thank you for the video and going into details with everything, really helped me out ! :)
Years back I put up this same crown. Made pattern pieces because videos were not too thorough. I literally forgot to do master bedroom ...oops! So now I'm trying to figure out cutting AANNDD I realized I put the crown up on the other rooms walls upside down...HAHA!! Looks good tho. So I will install MB crown the same way the rest of the house is...Upside down! Thanks! GREAT EASY VIDEO!!
Hey Cindy, I know this reply to your comment is late and I'm sorry. I am trying to keep up but it's pretty difficult. Your not the first one that hung crown upside down. Obviously nobody figured it out but you, after watching the video..Glad the video helped you out. Have a great New Year!
Everyone else on RU-vid just telling you " you have to cut the top side down and cut at an angle" without mentioning that the saw placement on left or right will dictate if an inside or outside cut and just assuming you know that. This is the only one I saw that actually walked through the saw positions needed for each type of corner needed
Great instructional video. How much extra length would you add to your crown piece for an outside miter that is going to meet an adjacent outside miter?
Hey Robert, glad it helped your project. Subscribe and share, I have more videos coming out soon. Any topics that you would like to see explained? Happy New Year!
Tracey, sorry for the late response. You must be so proud of yourself. I know several people that are in the trades and will not attempt crown moulding. Thanks for sharing. Good for you! Subscribe and share, Happy New Year!
Folks! This is what I gathered.. Copy the text and put it on your phone or print it. This man has ended my headaches and heartaches: WOOD UPSIDE DOWN on the Right of Saw + Saw angled to the Right = Inside Cut Corner WOOD UPSIDE DOWN on the Right of Saw + Saw angled to the Left = Outside Cut Corner WOOD UPSIDE DOWN on the Left of Saw + Saw angled to the Right = Inside Cut Corner WOOD UPSIDE DOWN on the Left of Saw + Saw angled to the Left = Outside Cut Corner That pretty much sums up what I haven’t been able to figure out watching more videos then I care to admit. Appreciate you using the Kiss Method. If I made an error - please correct me and I will edit it. Thx. Chris in Kalamazoo
shouldn't it be this wood right + blade right = inside corner wood right + blade left = outside corner wood left + blade left = inside corner wood left + blade right = outside corner
Thank you sir. This was the best instructional video I could find. I’ll be watching more. I had already wasted one 16 ft piece but I know how to put half of it back together. I really appreciate the time you spent on this and your sympathy for us poor DIY SLOBS. 😂
Better than this old house instruction. Love to see you do the measurement and mark the piece and put it up. Do you measure your walls first, cut the pieces, then put it up or do you measure, cut the piece and then measure for the next wall?
I'm trying to frame a brick wall with crown molding, so using the same crown molding on top and the sides instead of doing corner wall molding. How would I need to make the cuts for this to work?
One challenge not addressed in videos like this are when cutting crown, you're not cutting a 12" piece but rather a 12' piece. Keeping it on the fence perfectly with a piece that long can be difficult and cause the cut to be inaccurate. I prefer and compound-miter cut where the crown can lay flat to cut. All that aside great video, thumbs up from me.
Hi Mike, good video. I was just wondering how you put the permanent marker on the blue tape. Did you have to measure the angle between the fence and the tape to be 45 degrees?
Hey Shacobyl, I'm glad I was able to help. Subscribe and share, I'll be posting new videos soon and a surprise tool I patented for enlarging existing holes and offset holes. Take care
Glad you enjoyed it. I’ll be adding some new videos soon covering more crown techniques to make it simple. Please Subscribe and share. I also designed and patented a tool to widen and offset an existing hole, stay tuned for the demonstration video. Take Care!
Good mate! But how do you measure it? Lets say you need this piece to be 255mm e the other one 243mm. I really do not understand =/ I stuff up some pieces until I guessed the right position. Thank you
Klaymour, sorry for the late response...I'm so behind on comments, but I try and respond to all of them. Thank you for the awesome comment, glad the video helped if you needed it. Please subscribe and share, new videos coming soon. Have a Happy New Year!
Can you do a video for coping. Basically a 90 degree that I'm installing on craftsman style header over a door way! And demonstrate where to measure please!
This is great, but all I have is a mitre box and handsaw and am trying to trim a column, which I assume is four outer corners. I tried using foam crown and it was a mess. 😑
