To me Chinos’ voice is pure sex and lust, but in a tender, ethereal way. I don’t even know how to explain the effect that has on me and any other woman that I know that has listened to them.
the thing i love about Deftones is that Chino's voice blends in so well, and almost just sounds like another instrument. The lyrics almost don't even matter. I mean they do, but damn his voice is amazing.

White Pony was my solace and safe space when I was going thru a very bad time in 2000. The entire album is so close to my heart, and I feel like a proud mama when I see people react so positively to these songs. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I’ve only seen them twice. First time was April 1998. I don’t remember who opened for them.. someone random like zebrahead or something. Best show ever! I was a freshman in high school so it was one of my first real rock shows. I was obsessed with them 😂 still am 🔥🖤

Frank Delgado (turntables) is so massively underrated. I like the way he puts some effects or some tones in some parts of the song. It just fits perfectly.
I find a lot of the great vocalists that connect with the masses sing with the "real emotion " their feeling at that time ( or the feeling their trying to encapsulate ) .
Deftones are the only 90s nu metal band to leave that umbrella early and went on to fuse 80s shoegaze and alternative heavy music to really be one of the best of their generation. Cherry waves, poltergeist, MX, birthmark are some good songs from their catalog. Band started in 88, came out in 95.

I've known this band since 93, they went to my high school, my bff was in one of thier vids.... back to school. I missed out cuz I had the flu. Still my go to band for any mood. Wide variety of anger, smooth, metal to keep me happy on this earth.
Listen to their entire catalogue. Thank me later, because it'll be one of best music experiences you can have. There's so much to take in with Deftones alone without even getting into Chino's side projects. Mid 90s is when the Deftones started releasing full albums, but they started making music/demos in the late 80s.
1989 is when they started and they hit their peek around 1998-2001. Absolutely one of my if not THE Most favorite band of mine. I wish you all could have seen them Live back in 1998-99. Chino would stage dive and during the Point fest or warp tour he would climb the speakers Like the TALL ONES on the front side of the stage and Jump off into the crowd. They are awesome. I actually have stories I could o all day abo8ut them. But yeah Chino has a very melodic, Sex, calming Voice and all the woman back in the 90's wanted him it was all ab0out Chino Chino Chino...;.. It's a very ethereal and trippy album. It was a clear change of tone from their early stuff, but it grew on me to be my favourite of theirs. The production is just amazing (that drums sound !).

Band released their first album in '95 & their latest one was release in '16. 9 albums in total, not including their "B-Sides & Rarities" release. Of the videos Ive seen you react to, you listened to '97 - '00 albums. Chino's voice can put you into a trance. Love it! Awesome react my dude.
Good to see you appreciate these kats. One of my all time favs. Chino was krazy as hell, way back when they were younger. Side note, Maddona discovered these guys & signed them to her label "Maverick" in the early to mid nineties.
Deftones started in '88 but really took off with their 2nd album Around The Fur in '97. That song you heard "My Own Summer" off that album was on The Matrix soundtrack.
If you're looking for something you may have heard from them before and not known at the time, they had a track in Furious 7 when Vin was loading up his Mustang and shottys. The track is called 'Tempest' off the 2012 'Koi no Yokan' album. Total beast of a song. Definitely worth a reaction. 👍
The first time I heard this song was in 99 before it was released and I was waaaay too high at a festival and had my ear to the ground as they played. It cemented into my all favourite albums. Definitely my favourite hi hat production for sure.

White Pony brings me back to so much good memories, this will be forever a classic. Also love their more recent albums, always been a huge fan, but White Pony will clearly have left a mark in time for me.
Lol i loved your Chino impression. Was actually pretty good. -Tempest - 976 evil - beauty school - Goon Squad -Riviere. Some of their best songs imo. Youll catch a vibe like all their other songs youve reviewed.
You gotta do 'Passenger' (which has Maynard from Tool and Chino on the vocals) and 'Pink Maggit' from the same album. Oh, and the band started in 88' but only a handful of singles have been really popular. Each album is very different, some simple & some quite complex.
The track house of flies has been in movies “little Nicky” is one that comes to mind, house of flies and digital bath are both tracks that were hits for them, “ my own summer” is probably the song that got this band on the map back in the 90’s. Great reaction, pretty much still my reaction to this absolute tune, favourite band since 98, no question. Koi No Yokan is my favourite record, but this will forever be my favourite song of theirs. Still gives me tingles now.
I can sum up the sentiment of the comment section: listen to EVERY deftones song. They just bring another level of atmosphere, groove, sensuality, and aggression. The way I heard it back in the day, “deftones is your favorite band’s favorite band.”
I believe they came about in 1996. They are by far my all time favorite band. Seen them live around 7 times, anytime they play anywhere near me. Check out thier first album/first track Adrenalin. This is where it all started. You will be even more amazed by how far they've come. Can't wait for the next album in 2020! Keep it up Jamel, digging what you do!
