You’re completing missing the point. It isn’t “oh don’t be racist because they might be rich” it’s “don’t be racist because racial stereotypes aren’t true for everybody, like it has always been the case” oh and also because it’s just a basic human thing to do. The fact that Martin was rich and smart, the opposite of the stereotype of black people being poor and dumb just proves that skin tone doesn’t determine your fate, like wealth and intelligence like the mom thought. Some people are still saying she’ll now only respect black people that are rich. No most of jarvises points are just misunderstanding the message of the video. This is lost evident of the black friend one. The point of it isn’t that the mom shouldn’t be racist because he was rich, it’s because she was wrong about her stereotypes. Skin tone does not have any bearing on intelligence or wealth, and that video proved her wrong. He COULD have been poor and dumb, but then she would have been right and would continue being a racist assuming all black people are poor and dumb. The point is that by Martin being rich, it proves that skin tone doesn’t determine your wealth or intelligence, so her stereotype would be wrong.

@@carbon5525 that’s not a very accurate way to interpret racism. The way that video turned out would do nothing to challenge that woman’s view of black people as a whole. Because the thing is She doesn’t hate black people because she thinks they’re stupid and Poor, it’s the other way around. She thinks black people are stupid and poor because she has such a low opinion of them. She believes be it consciously or subconsciously that this is just how black people are, that they are simply lesser people which leads to them making less money and getting poorer grades. which is why she uses terms like “you people”. All she would’ve taken away from that kid revealing he’s smart and rich is that she should treat him differently, not all black people differently. It’s a classic case of the “you’re one of the good ones” mentality that bigots adopt when they meet someone who challenges their view of the group. Whenever they’re confronted with something that disproves their bias they view at the exception rather than the norm.

But a sweatshirt with some water on it or an untouched doggie bag half of sandwich or fries is pretty golden. At least from my experience.

Maybe the problem is that parents just overestimate how much food a child needs, forgetting that their body and stomach is a lot smaller than their own, so they constantly put the child in a situation when they have to eat beyond what they are capable of and then shame them for being ungrateful. This is how it felt with my parents growing up, at least my grandma was chill about those things and never forced me to eat things if I said I was full

It's unfortunate that people's biases and colourism pop up in situations like that. My family is Asian/Latine, and my Latino (darker skin) father would get questioned about being our father when he would take my sibling to the park because my sibling was light skinned as a toddler.

This was me but on on smaller scale. My dad is white and I’m mixed. When I was little and at stores with my dad people always stared at him, assuming that I was being kidnapped instead of the possibility that he was my father.

Happened to my mom too! She has lighter skin but me and my bro are pale af! Also happened when my oldest brother and I were at a grocery store when I was little. He has darker skin and the cashier asked if I “needed help” wtf 💀

I grew up facing food insecurity, so a lot of times we didn’t know if we were gonna have dinner or not. It was usually one meal a day until around the end of the month. We’re a lot better and rarely struggle now, but I still have that mentality of “I don’t know when I’ll be able to eat again”. It came from a lot of times I would be so hungry and think back to every recent meal I had that I would waste any of.

Eat the food because people are starving. That doesn't truly help people that are starving.

Racist people need continual exposure to what they're averse to, like phobia therapy. An exposure that destroys their exact bias. They meet one good human of the race they hate & think they're just the exception, then more and more until their judgement changes. So I think it's good that she sees that blacks can achieve stuff, & that's what'll start changing her. The world isn’t good vs evil, and depicting it as such is an outdated coping mechanism used by people who don’t want or know how to actually think about the nuances of social issues. Black people in America are not the victims of explicitly racist Karens-they’re the victims of centuries of institutionalized racism, sinister commercialism, prison industrial complex, and systemic oppression. Of course those problems don’t make for pretty little packaged moral victory videos, but Dhar Mann’s content is a slap in the face to people actually trying to address and solve real world injustices

It doesn't always have to be so deep and detailed (eg: my childhood best friend died from cancer and gave her daughter to me), you could have gotten her at an orphanage and you adopted her so it is still valid.
