I just want to say that I’ve actually been on one of these court shows before, and it was 100% fake and mostly improvised on set. They have some “evidence” prepped beforehand, but ultimately you get a set up and a character and they let you decide how to handle the case amongst yourselves. Now the episode could be based on a true story, but the people on the show didn’t actually do anything. So unless this show is miraculously somehow real unlike all the others, this is all made up, so no reason to feel bad for making fun of a televised improv show Jarvis!
Not to be a party pooper, but it is so obvious (at least to me) that these are 100% fake that I don’t understand why Jarvis or the commenters are talking about what’s happening in the show as if there’s an ounce of truth in these stories. Maybe it’s because I’m not American and not used to american reality TV, but those are definitely some _very_ bad actors here and not real people with real struggles.
I'm kinda glad. I couldn't handle real cases where real litigants crying real tears because they didn't understand a contract and they were left bankrupt.
@@etherealsky7078 i think we all KNOW its fake. its just not fun at all to just go "this is fake. Click bait! Not real. That didn't happen." every time we see something fake
I feel like Jarvis just makes those statements because a majority of the fanbase he has will just attack him for absolutely any perceived mistake. He’s deleted a video in the past because his fourteen year old fans thought him making one joke about how he grew up with a (disabled) single mom meant he was invalidating disabled single moms everywhere. He’s just so cautious nowadays and the community pisses me off sometimes lol
Forget 5 hours of Steve Harvey listing components of a funeral, I want to see 5 hours of Jarvis impressions of Steve Harvey listing components of a funeral
imo if it's a specific person/celebrity impression then it's comedic fair game, but it's probably crossing a line once you start doing generalized racial stereotypes (even if it is your own race). it's a gray area at the end of the day though
I'm also not a lawyer, so I'm perfectly credentialed to weigh in on this. Whether or not a large sum of money was spent on plastic surgery has nothing to do with this. Its weird that so much detail was focused on that. The accusation is that the money generated for the funeral didn't go towards the funeral. So even if she just pocketed the money instead getting plastic surgery, it's still just as wrong (maybe not legally, but certainly morally). The only thing that really mattered here was if she could prove that that the funeral did in fact add up to the amount "donated." I mean, I know WHY on a TV show we had to swim in the endless ocean of scandalous plastic surgery, but it really didn't need to be mentioned at all. Even a footnote would just be excessive.
I AM a lawyer (albeit not in the US) and while yeah, it's pretty morally wrong to spend money that was "donated" for a specific purpose on something else, legally speaking if there's no piece of paper saying "I am loaning you $6,000 so you can do a memorial service for our dead brother", there's no legal means of showing that you *didn't* donate the money. When there are cases where family members have given money to each other, generally the law assumes that there was no intention for an agreement to be legally enforceable. The moral is, make sure you don't rely on the honour system, even if it's family!
@@lionguardant5468I’m NOT a lawyer and this is what I was wondering the whole time.. again obviously it’s a show so none of this is real but we’re this to be real court wouldn’t the claims be dropped almost immediately simply bc there is no written evidence that this money was meant to go specifically towards the funeral and had not just been donated to a grieving family member? Like if you give someone money for a singular purpose and want to make sure it is enforceable that they only use it for that purpose there needs to be a written or otherwise formal statement of it that can be taken to court right?
I watched an episode of family feud recently, and an answer to the question “what shouldn’t you be caught driving with in your lap” was a vibrator. I cannot stop thinking about how that was on a prime time “family friendly” show or that more than one person answered that on the survey. I’m also convinced his tailor is criminally insane and a Batman villain because his suits have somehow gotten wilder
Jarvis talking about how he wanted Steve Harvey to keep listing the components of the funeral gives the same energy as John Mulaney wanting Ice-T to keep listing addictions
In eighth grade I was in this “mock trial” class, where were basically split into groups and we pretend to be lawyers and witnesses and preform the case in a courtroom close to the school, and a student jury decided the verdict. Anyway we did a murder case that the teacher gave us and let me just say that I feel like us as eighth graders pretending to be adults were more mature about the case than these actual adults
I love how other kids got to do this and then in the south I had to do a civil war reenactment with paper balls. On the brighter side though I had a different teacher in highschool that had us do a congress simulation where we tried to pass bills and like 4 people in my class alone tried to legalize weed which was beautiful
Steve Harvey always reminded me of my dad. Hilarious sense of humor, lots of fun, total goofball, also judgmental old school Christian. Thanks Steve, your criticism is nostalgic now
Steve Harvey staring at nothing while wearing a ginormous grin while also just relentlessly smacking his gavel around is one of the funniest things I’ve seen all year. Also, that ending caught me way off-guard lol.
12:51 "Or like, when someone... snorts cocaine? Or like, when someone... eats too much chocolate cake? Or like, when someone... eats too much chocolate cake, and then barfs it up?"
I’ll give Steve credit for hustling and making money every legal way he can. It appears that he has fans who will watch any dang thing he does. Just wait until he decides to fly planes with Harvey Airlines.
I believe his words were that poor people are lazy... but he also said something about not praying right in another episode of his "advice" show. Gus Johnson made a video about it.
I've been to a memorial service for someone who was cremated... there was still flowers, speeches, and a room rented out at the funeral home... so idk why they didn't have any of that
I'm not sure when this episode may have aired, but unfortunately due to covid we couldn't even have a proper funeral for my father who passed away in 2020 and was cremated. We were supposed to be allowed 10 people inside, then covid numbers got worse and we were told to hold off for a bit, then told only a certain amount could be outside. We ended up putting together a block party for a celebration of life so we could stay distanced. My father never wanted to be buried at a funeral, he wanted to go back to the Earth and for people to celebrate the memories of him. However, his family and friends were all aware of this and we all made sure they were
i can confirm, i’ve been to a funeral that was for my great-aunt, who got cremated. there was a beautiful urn, tons of flowers, a large-ish room rented out (so that we could all properly distance), etc. it wasn’t any less important or expensive than a funeral where someone isn’t cremated.
her ashes got spread in a few different places btw, since she loved to travel. it was kinda cathartic to see her remains be treated the way she wanted them to.
Yeah, my mom was cremated and we had a viewing with her in a casket first and the whole funeral with flowers and everything...and then she went to be cremated after the service.
I don't want to depress you, Jarvis, but there are actually lots of judges without law degrees. Sometimes voters choose morons with no JD and no bar lisence, so they decide cases they aren't legally allowed to argue.
Fun fact: the only requirements to be a Supreme Court Justice are US citizenship and confirmation by the Senate. Additionally one current member has NEVER been a judge prior to appointment (Elana Kagen, former dean of Harvard Law, and former solicitor General to POTUS under Obama, note this makes her extremely qualified as she's a legal scholar as opposed to a trial lawyer or judge). I think it might get hella interesting if a couple of ethicists and moral philosophers on the Supreme Court.
@@milhousevanhoutan9235 I love how we still have to pretend the founding fathers were these all knowing (and apparently clairvoyant) deity figures who are above questioning.
This entire "Steve Harvey, TV judge, cracks jokes about cosmetic surgery and a dispute over a funeral" premise feels a lot like an SNL sketch. It's endlessly funny to me that Steve Harvey has been elevated from comedian to TV host to relationship guru to de facto judge considering what a goofy, out of touch old dimwit he consistently comes off as.
He’s like really sexist like casually and alarmingly so The source I had was a gus johnson video but I’m gonna go ahead and not recommend that :/ I’m sure other people have talked about it
Wait, what..? But that's... why he laughed at her trying to plead the 5th and said that. He's saying it's _not_ "real" court and _doesn't_ apply in this setting.
As someone who used to work at a funeral home, genuinely a little funny to see how shocked Jarvis was by people making light of the death. I worked at a pretty high end funeral home and I could say about 70% of the funerals I worked with, nobody gave a shit lol. People would come in cargo shorts and Trump t-shirts (once, in the very sad case of a very young woman's passing, someone showed up in a rainbow sequin minidress) and spend the whole night yucking it up and telling stories with a whole ass dead body in the room. Some would even play loud ass club music when they knew other funerals were taking place in the building! Just to give a little insight that, unfortunately, most funerals are not the somber events we assume they'll be, particularly when a lot of extended family is involved (hell, sometimes the close family doesn't care either)
Sounds like an old fashioned irish wake, which is personally how I want my family to process my death instead of only grieving. Interesting to hear that even high end funeral homes have ragers
@@caithenry8429 normally I'd agree since everyone grieves differently, but this high end funeral home I worked at was in Miami, with majority of our clients being Cuban and Venezuelan families from Doral (very hoity toity area). Being Cuban myself I know that that isn't really part of our culture, the way these families were is more akin to how we do kid's birthdays, letting the kids run around and do whatever while the adults sit around gossiping and drinking. Since I worked with all the funeral directors who had appointments with these families, I know a lot of the families didn't give a damn and only had a funeral out of obligation (and even those who did care admitted that their extended family really didn't). So most of the behavior I saw from these funerals was just kinda trashy and disrespectful as opposed to people celebrating the life of a loved one. Definitely sad since a majority of our decedents were older people and from my experience people care a lot less about the death of someone older
I'm not Irish, but I know some people try to make things lighthearted during these occasions. I went to a funeral of someone who specifically stated they wanted their funeral to be a celebration and that no one should wear black, only their most glamorous clothes. And there was a live band and a DJ. I don't know if somber is always the way to go. Not doubting the vibes you were picking up from your clientele though. Just noting that not everyone is somber.
Along the lines of steve harvey being homophobic, there are two episodes of celebrity family feud I'd be interested in seeing you react to. One has the cast of Queer Eye old vs. new, and one has the cast of RuPaul's Drag Race. The way steve harvey reacted and interacted with people definitely made me uncomfortable, but the composure of the contestants is great.
okay but family feud is lowkey rated R. they disguise it like a family show but every question is like “We asked 100 men what their favorite melons are!“ and then when they say boobs Steve is like WTF?!?!?😧😮😧
Omg ikr? I visited some distant family a few years ago and we turned family fued on to break the ice and the first question was something like "what would a stripper's name in the north pole be?"
I saw part of an episode on today as I was hanging out with my mom. The question we caught was "what did your ex stick you with?" ... you can probably guess the first answer said. It's an occasionally funny show but definitely not for little kids.
Harvey's teeth shine into the darkness like a spotlight. I feel like a ship being signaled from afar by a lighthouse, wary to keep far enough from the danger. If they are real then they're a damn real miracle of science I'll tell ya that for free
Fun Fact: the highest court in the US doesn't require the judges to have a law degree. If the supreme court doesn't need them, why should steve harvey?
If it's true it should be changed, people shouldn't be judged with people with no law degree. Just as I don't to get in a plane designed by non degree engineers, or be treated with undegree doctor
Jarvis is the last person who has to apologize for making light of this situation, This guy is literaly so kindhearted and you can tell he really doesnt wanna offend anybody which is why he’s making his stance clear as hell but he really didn’t need to. Jarvis is the one guy who we know full well wouldnt say these things with malice. I loved this video, can we get more chaos on the premium channel?
@@fionn9852 the twitch chat is basically a Twitter mob but in live action. Jarvis said he looked like a dharr man character and chat yelled at him bc it's weird to compare himself to a high schooler?? Like, they just get so worked up over things that don't even matter, I wish hebwould just ignore or mute them or something
My last two grandparents were cremated I just gotta say and there wasn't a casket or burial plot but it was still expensive to buy a container, to get them cremated, to rent the space, go out to lunch, buy flowers. It was actually a normal funeral without a casket or body. So yeah, less expensive but it wasn't the cheapest thing. Some people probably spend money on putting family up in hotels or catering or music if youre having a celebration of life. Its not like there just ISNT a funeral.
When I was little, my mom worked as a singer at a funeral home. So when people asked for music, usually hymns and stuff like that, she would sing in a room adjacent to the one where the actual service was happening. And someone would accompany her on piano, and the sound would be played in the service room. Because I was homeschooled during that time, she would take me with her and like set me up with a coloring book and some Polly pockets in the staff break room. And whenever we would leave to go to the funeral home, she would be like, “Let’s go put the ‘fun’ in ‘funeral!’” She was respectful to everyone grieving, but I think she just wanted to be a little kid friendly for me I guess??
That reminds me of how my high school would send out like a notification to the teachers when a student was absent, but they'd use an abbreviation for each excuse, and one time, some kids were gone for the funeral of a teacher's wife, and my teacher read the email and just about spit out his coffee and went "so i got the notification that the basketball team is gone for that funeral... guess what they used as an abbreviation for 'funeral'..." and that was when everyone realized that funeral was always abbreviated to "fun" in the system.
It might’ve also been how she coped with the darker aspects of her job, I work around a lot of death and making light of it makes everything easier when I go home at the end of the day
As a non-american that has watched this trash american reality tv shows for my whole life... The only thing I have to add to this conversation is that Dr. Phil and Steve Harvey are the same person in my head just different race.
I’m not even lying, I’ve been in America my entire life, never left the country once not even for a vacation. And it took me until a was like 12 to figure out they were different people. Like I deadass thought they were the same
Eh I’m not sure about that. Feel as though Dr Phil is worse. Steve, at least, didn’t send a bunch of kids to abuse-camp. Fortunately. Just odd comparison lol, all they share in common is being tv personalities & being old, bald, & mustachio’ed. “American Tv” Show Persona ≠ Personality. Ellen is a good example. Fakes nice on TV.
as much as i love this, i don’t want a sequel enough to pressure into watching more of this bc i sure as hell couldn’t handle watching this if it weren’t for you omitting parts and reminding me i’m not insane for not being a misogynist
As someone who has worked in the funeral industry for years, Legally if Tiffany was the one who made the arrangements than she legally had to have been given a contract that she had to sign and she had to be given a copy of said contract. Every single funeral has to have a contract, thats a national law. This show is bonkers! Thank you Jarvis for the interesting watch
We had to sign contracts for everything, especially permission for cremation, for both of my in-laws. They were wonderful, which is why we went with them the second time as well. But I still have that paperwork and, if I didn't, they do. There's no excuse for not having the paperwork.
Lawyer here. No judge or court will take judicial notice of the fact that there was no storm just because they "Googled" whether or not there was a storm that day. But again, this is kind of like an alternative dispute resolution process, and not an actual court.
i feel like lately a lot of people come for your neck and give unsolicited advice but i just wanted to say i think you're doing a great job and i'm really proud of the content you're putting out
@@bitbot9834 I've heard some people say that the twitch chat gets a little much at times. Idk if that's true or if that is what this comment is about tho
Just wanna say how much I appreciate you acknowledging Steve Harvey's problematic views at the beginning. I feel like a lot people either don't know about his stance on a lot of issues, or they just don't care, because "he's funny."
To be real he's entertainment, he's not here to do a job he's there to entertain anyone willing to watch, his point of view is fucked but that doesn't mean people can't enjoy his work, like eminem who openly said some of the most outta pocket shit for music but people still enjoy his music even if they don't like the person
I dont see views as “problematic” he can think and believe what ever he wants. Same goes for people who dont hold the same views as me. I dont give a shit, everyone is different and everyone believes different things and thats ok. There is value on all sides. No opinion is right or wrong because they are all right and wrong. He may have some opinions you dont like but the dude has brought alot of enjoyment to millions of people over his career and thats a all around positive impact on humanity
Dude, PLEASE make more videos like this. You are so incredibly funny, and I absolutely love you chuckling at your own jokes. There's an energy here that is so contagious and I love it.
@@GogiRegion i know his twitch chat is brutal, they are really unfair to him. I just hope he knows that he doesn’t have to constantly explain himself because *most of us* know that hes not being serious
This has me in tears! PLEASE do another one. This was absolute gold. And what else is gold? When my absent father decided to give me Steve Harvey’s “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” book for my high school graduation present. Lordy Lou, never understood that one…
My mother, who is very smart, got me the Steve Harvey book to tell me to how to avoid problematic men. The person who sold it to her was a woman who was insistent that this was the way that women can avoid “bad” guys. I didn’t even bother reading it because I just didn’t want to hear his misogynist and misandrist garbage probably written by a ghost writer.
@14:05 Steve is disgusting for this. Paraphrasing: "You at the funeral thinking lil bruh bout to be rolled in... You think he running late" or something like that. I know this is most likely fake, but it's insane how horrible that is, and no one batted an eye to it. Edit: Jarvis, you understand where I'm coming from. This was a very wtf episode, and I wouldn't be surprised if all of them were like this.
Any parties can agree to have their legal dispute mediated by anyone regardless of credentials (religious mediation is common) and they can agree that it’s legally binding. Basically any two parties can agree that Steve Harvey can legally decide their dispute…freedom to contract is a great thing
1) Jarvis, your hair looks great like this. 2) Steve Harvey looks like he had work done. He’s got a weirdly smooth skin texture, like he’s wearing a shit ton of foundation. 3) Judges don’t have to have law degrees, they’re elected. 4) Okay, not just me who noticed the super white teeth.
The thing about law degrees depends on jurisdiction. Lots of states disqualify candidates who don’t have law degrees. That said, federally-appointed judges don’t need degrees.
“I AM black, but it FEELS wrong” explains how I feel when I do my 90s Chris Rock impression. It sounds like I am a white man doing blackface, but to be fair, that's how Chris Rock sounded.
Thats what I thought it was and figured it'd be about him modeling and talking fashion lol. Not sure if I'm disappointed or happy with what we got instead.
jarvis this is one of your funniest videos esp bc when i watched this episode with my mom the whole time we were baffled by the whole concept and i was hoping you would cover it 😭
Crazy. I _just_ told my mom the other day about Steve Harvey being a judge now (we used to watch Family Feud together for shts & giggles) and she simply replied with “what the hell”
When my dad died, we needed receipts for everything so we could submit it to his life insurance. In general, the funeral industry is quite profitable. For my dad's obit, it was a $100+ fee to publish it in the newspaper, with extra cost per word over a set amount.
My mum’s funeral and cremation cost like €6,000. And this was during the height of the pandemic so only my dad and I could attend. It was depressing as hell. The funeral industry charges *wild* rates.
And (from my experience with my grandmother and my dad) funeral homes 100% inundate families with options using all the kind understanding of a used car salesman. It wouldn't have been out of line to spend way more than you'd expect for cremation, but not having any financial track of it at all? That's just weird.
@@Caldella Not all of them are like this!! But....unfortunately wayyy too many are and they take advantage of people not knowing this and being consumed by grief and suddenly trying to settle someone's life. :( We had a good experience and a small, family-run funeral home in AZ after my dad passed away (he elected to have them handle his funeral since they did a good job with handling my grandmother's), but I feel for anyone that has been preyed upon by the industry as a whole.
@@megapiglatin2574 I'm glad you had a good experience. My Grandma's funeral was run by a small family business that had known my extended family for decades, but we still found them calloused and trying to upsell. My family was pretty pissed about it.
omg please watch more of this and post reactions i actually lost it at that last clip when he says "you must think this is a real court!" and everyone, friend and foe, start cracking up like its a sitcom i need more
Just wanna say Steve Harvey always reacts like anything said gives him Vietnam flashbacks and he’s remembered his time in the jungle book at the same time
Probably one of my favorite things about this channel is how Jarvis makes himself laugh, he’ll say something funny and either after or in the middle of saying it he’ll dissolve into laughter, it’s very charming.
