Even though these customers might be fleeting and you may never cross paths with them again, the quality of your interaction during the initial greeting can significantly impact the entire service experience.

Love the bloopers in the beginning lol. Just started serving on 1/02/2024 and these videos have helped me so much with my confidence and flow. My boss is Japanese and can't give me in depth directions due to language barrier. "Weeded" must be a southern term for upset, never heard that before.

I came back here to say thank you. I watched a lot of your videos Last May & June because I had just been promoted to server and these videos really helped me to become better AND de-stress because I was very stressed out at the time. Today, I still serve at the restaurant I was promoted in and I’m so relieved to say that I’m 10x the server I was when I started, and these videos really offered me a breath of fresh air when I really needed it. I used to have nightmares about being weeded at work and I would stress _out_ when I knew it was going to be busy because I always felt like I wasn’t going to be a good enough server and I was going to let a lot of people down or I would make a serious mistake and be in a lot of trouble, but I no longer have those feelings because I have found out what it means to be an effective server and how to overcome the issues that occasionally arise on the job. I really can’t believe I’m saying this, but…I kinda look forward to going to work now most days. Some nights it feels like I’m locked in and everyone’s being processed at our optimum efficiency even when it’s busy. Once again, thank you for your hard work and your content. To anyone reading this who needs to hear this: No matter what, KEEP GOING, you *will* get better. I promise you, if you’re stressing about parts of your job, identify what you believe are the issues, e.g. Taking orders, talking to people, organizing, etc, focus on those and make it your mission to get better at them. I found out after a few weeks that my ability to put orders into our computer system was holding me up from getting people served and so I took pictures of the computer screens and practiced putting in orders on the computer to be fast AND efficient and after a few days of doing that, I was getting people served TWICE as fast. Believe me, once your identify your problem areas and become efficient at them, there is deep satisfaction in a job well-done.

Wow! This is absolutely amazing to hear and seriously appreciate you taking the time to write this out. Stoked that you clearly grasp what all this content is about: efficiency. I tell everyone serving is a game of output - the more a server can handle and execute, the more a server can earn. "There is a deep satisfaction in a job well-done." Isn't that the truth? Serving is not my career, and I recognize for most it's temporary, but I cannot emphasize enough the value of learning to do it well. It truly is the difference between this job sucking and actually being pretty fun (and lucrative!). hmm so I actually build training programs for restaurants and develop content/ resources to help servers learn menu. in your case, i would just start ordering everything on menu at end of shift so you can try it.

Im starting my seasonal server job again and I noticed last summer that when I walk ,when i put my heel on the ground my whole body shakes and the drinks shake,sometimes the drinks spill even when on the tray.This is why I must always see at the tray,instead of forward like other servers.I work on a Bar-restaurant.Can you give me tips on this if you understand?

I didn't plan on watching this video to be snarky, but grabbing stemware by the bulb, even if it is water glasses is a big fine dining no-no. I'm surprised to see that in a video teaching people how to be better servers.

Correct. Fortunately this isn't a fine dining establishment. It's a fairly nice restaurant - somewhat upscale - but ultimately a higher-volume, somewhat casual setting. 100% of my content is geared towards servers working in these kinds of restaurants - which is the overwhelming majority of restaurants - and this standard of service is more than acceptable.
