I earn 90k per month but bcoz of my ugly looks people think i am a uneducated, poor, bad guy. Shahrukh Khan was not perceived as conventionally good looking, but still had the charm, personality and confidence which made him what he is. One can be really fit and well groomed, but still might not have an appealing personality. So rather I would say, personality matters, a lot more than looks. Good looks doesn't have a prototype, because something which is beautiful to one person can be not that beautiful to others. But a magnetic personality is universally attractive.
This comment should be pinned. Indeed Beuty is subjective. Yes, having a good face can attract a person and give great first impression. But that doesn't do any good in long term. It's a person's charm, behavior and character that makes his or her place in people's hearts. There are numerous examples whom people literally worship today but they weren't so good looking at first. Very similar to my story I used to think looks don't matter at all during my high school and senior years but when I got the reality hit than I lost some 22 kg weight and it has been life changing ever since. It was a 180 degree shift. I got so much attention in college that I had never gotten before. And you are telling people the real truth.
Even Vikas Divyakirti sir IAS has told that its easier for good looking persons to get more marks in interviews and we can see in recent times the IAS toppers have remarkable looks.

There are people who can't do anything about the way they look, like Stephen Hawking, because of their inherent disorders. They rather focused on their work and made their mark. Even entrepreneurs, and other people at best maintain their basic hygiene but don't run after getting a 6 pack. Like you said what you can do is just take care of basics, but not beyond that because there are 100 better things to do in life. So what really matters is to give your best at work, looks and secondary shit will follow.

Looks does matter. Not only does it take us to an advantageous position be it in a job interview, placement, marriage prospects but it also develops and adds confidence and self esteem within us and that is why doing the best that one can is of significance today.
what you said is so true. I interview lot of people for high performance jobs, and this really plays a big part. Once you are fit, confidence automatically comes and you will portray yourself much better in interviews. Being fit and well groomed adds to the whole equation, including your credentials.. Do looks matter? Yes. But looks are not the only thing that matters. That been said, we have this responsibility to make ourselves more presentable. But over the time I realised it matters.Along with looks, how you talk, how confident you are also matters because once you open your mouth and not able to talk effectively then also people start loosing interest in you.definitely one need to try to look well groomed, crisp, fresh looks including body smell.Your sense of style matters including your hair cut, choice of clothes etc . My point being one should be aware of how they look. Accordingly, You need to find your style and find what works for you. Also dress as per occasion or evolve with time.Its not something that should be taken lightly. It's important in career, to build relationships, to have influence on people.

I am a girl who just finished her 10th. I’m fair, tall, thin have a decent face and I can say yes looks definitely matter. Teachers are sweeter to me and I can make friends quite easily. Though beauty is a blessing it has also been a curse for me. I have found myself putting all my self worth in my looks. If I gain a bit of weight or have a bad haircut I feel like now no one cares about me. Also, people judge me a lot, they think I’m dumb and/or stuck up and After hitting puberty I saw myself getting isolated by a lot of my female friends (out of jealousy or competition I guess) my point isn’t to complain or show off but to show that there are multiple sides to everything. And even though I fit our country’s beauty standards I still struggle with insecurities and social issues. Someone can be drop dead gorgeous but if they don’t have good character, tough skin and work ethic it’s basically pointless. I’ve seen it first hand, some of my pretty friends put all their worth in their looks and lose friends, get bad marks, develop self esteem issues etc.
Yes! Reality is disappointing only if you take is so seriously. If somebody judge you on the basis of looks, Height, beauty its their narrow mindness & choice if they chose on this basis they will disappointing later in life. I will care for those who love me and want to accept me with my personality. Why care for those so-called mean good looking who are only interested in good looking people only.
Few things I already understood on this topic :- 1. Hard work is much superior than looks. 2. Yes looks matter. In outside world it sends a message to your friend, client etc etc. Otherwise Sandeep Maheshwari wouldn't have kept himself clean livve on stage. If he appeared in torn clothes and unshaved look then his message might not have went through many minds. 3. More than clean looks what matters is Cleanliness. We can never change our face design but we can keep our face clean, hair neat, dress tip top and ironed. That is enough. 4. We have to use our mind when to show our looks and when not.

I'm a average looking guy but have bushy eyebrows which makes me look weird and i can't tell you in which humiliation i gone through because it's past now. But I'm working hard and saving money so i can take treatment on my eyebrows.

Agree. Long ago, when my musical show was a hit, a woman (whose show wasn't) said out of jealousy: "Ajitabh looks attractive so his shows are hit". Of course that wasn't 100% true but people do tend to think like that. I have a very hard time accepting an actor or actress who isn't good looking. And even among the colleagues the good looking ones certainly have some more magnetism (to begin with).

It depends upon what do you want in your life, looks don't really matter if you aren't great as a human being, no one would stick around you for a longer time. Being a good and genuine human is more important.
This is just like "don't judge a book by it's cover" but people still judge by cover.. similarly we should not judge someone by their looks but be aware that someone is going to judge us by looks. (Ignore anyone's judgement if u r successful)

Yes, I agree. My dad always says, it doesn't matter which brand clothes you r wearing, it should be neat n tidy. I always get more attention even when I am in group hanging out with my friends, right from kids to uncle n aunties. People give u more attention n care when u talk to them.
I've been thinking this and working on ( fitness, grooming, attitude, conversation skills) from past 5 years and gradually over the period I look like a different guy and yes I can agree to the point it makes life alot easier people gives you respect and they take your words seriously and would like to be arround you more often...
