You’ll love it later, Micky has major character development later in. It was kinda thrust upon him but he steps up, it’s pretty awesome to watch him grow. I was always uncomfortable with how weak they made him.

As the years go by it becomes increasingly less obvious, but - underneath the slapstick this was supposed to be a satire on the Iraq war (and to some degree on the British government of the time).

While I'm not a fan of this particular two-parter, I do really like the agency it gives Mickey. He really steps up in this story.

(Modelo's Gold? If that's right, we'd be the best of friends. It's kinda hard to find but San Miguel Dark Brew is sooo good. It's like chocolate beer. I live off it and paella sometimes.)

I'm guessing it was a sam adams boston lager; but i'll have to remember that and try it sometime. San Miguel Dark Brew, like chocolate beer, sounds good 😁

I liked this story at the time of transmission back in 2005, but I do agree it's likely the weakest story of the entire 1st series. I can forgive the "patchy" quality as it was the first to be filmed (along with "Rose") so the production team were still finding their feet. Nothing g like "Doctor Who" had been produced by the BBC for YEARS! Annette Badland is pretty dam brilliant though....

The second half is much better than the first half in my opinion. I also like how Mickey really steps up in this episode. I feel bad for Rose's mum in this episode - the thought of losing her daughter for a year and then Rose not even spending at least a night after the conflict is over doesn't sit well for me

Yeah Mickey did well, i liked that too. And that does suck for Rose's mom, that's alot of stress Rose is putting her through, right lol

Cool - probably the weakest story of series 1 - but watching your reaction it occurred to me there's a clever reason for the story. Next a big story .... :-)
