@Clu Rosencrans I was responding to the part of the comment that said you can't claim someplace as your home town and complain about it as such unless you were born there. I was saying that's a ridiculously high bar. There has to be point you are adequately from someplace to have informed mixed feeling about it that isn't just 'only those born here'. Though to be clear moving someplace at 7 and at 2 are not equivalent since with one you will have a lot of memories, a language or accent, and some childhood cultural touch stones, and with another you will have none. To be clear I call the place I moved to my home town and think I am in just as much a position to criticize it as someone who was born here.

@@icarusgotooclose I actually very much like Nebraska! Both for the pretty cool attractions it has like the Omaha Zoo and the Buffalo Bill museum/store, and just the openness of it! Maybe I’m strange for enjoying the endless fields of corn but yeah. I’m from Colorado which means people either assume I’m a pothead or a hairy mountain dweller. Usually it’s the city people who assume that. But I tend to mock the fact that they call their 800 foot hills “mountains” and 50 degree weather “freezing.” 🤷‍♀️

@@blessfullstop Oh, this was a core memory. I didn’t snap a picture as it was REALLY cold that night, and the wind off the West Side Highway in Manhattan was cold af. I don’t think it was EV/Murray Hill area. IIRC it was closer to FiDi where it’s pretty comparatively dead during non-work hours. So drunk, lost tourists dressed as Spirit store’s best Ms. Claus stuck out like a very loud sore thumb.

And also cuz they went all the wrong places; Times Square is a tourist trap at best. Go to Prospect Park, or go up and down Museum Mile, and it's much greener and nicer than many people expect of new york, and you can get anywhere (in Manhattan at least) via subway and many other places by bus. That's what annoys me so much when tourists trash talk new york from what they've seen of like. Movies. Or when they went and had a bad time because they did all the things a local would tell them not to do. It's self sabotage, not the city's fault.

I went on at least two separate rants to my boyfriend from San Diego about how amazing my small hometown is yesterday... all the while, I've 100% had conversations with multiple people from my own broke ass, teenage pregnancy addled, title I school wherein we just agree, "Yeah... xxxx high was... umm... an experience, for sure," and that was us being nice. So, I get not letting people trash on your hometown. It's legit awful, but only I, and 17k other people can say that, and everyone else needs to stfu.

I'm not strong enough to justify $2000 a month for a cramped apartment with roommates, but NY is fine. There are plenty of legit critiques to make about it, but it would be nice if American as a whole work on decentralizing certain things mainly associated with cities like NY and LA. Like you shouldn't have to only live in those places for certain industries for the number of tradeoffs there can be. It would be dope to have access to some kind of high speed rail system that would better facilitate people living where they want vs where they're going to get the most opportunities.

@@normandy2501 I agree with everything you said. 2k is a small crappy apt with at least 2 roommates to make things somewhat affordable, is way to much for anyone to live with. My mortgage payment doesn’t even break $660. I miss NYC for all great locals, places and events and would love for America to finally catch up to the rest of the world on mass transit/speed rail.
