On training Gurney was actually able to beat Duncan slightly more often than not, and Duncan killed 19 Sardaukars before dying, doing the math and under the right circumstances Gurney could kll a complete Sardaukar patrol himself

No. In fact, seeing him in No Country for Old Men again after SCII came out made me realize they must have based Raynor's appearance on Brolin. Look at pictures of them side by side, nearly identical. The movie came out in 2007 so had plenty of time to influence Blizzard

@@jakeg3733 According to what I've heard one they thought about Brolin to play Raynor, but decided to return to original StarCraft VAs, except some few replaced by even more impressive. For example Talken-Campbell was replaced by Tricia Helfer.

A part of Gurney’s story in the novel and something I wished had been included in the movie - he believed is was Lady Jessica who betrayed House Atreides. Would have been awesome to see their reunion on screen and how he learns the truth from Paul, this would have also put more weight on Dr Yueh storyline too. Spoiler alert - Gurney and Lady Jessica become an item once Alia starts running the show too.

It's more like Arrakis vs. the entire known universe of humanity. And with Arrakis breeding super soldiers like the Fremen they are entirely unstoppable as well as no known army can challenge a force that has been huffing spice their entire lives. He also controls pretty much the only thing making interstellar travel possible, so those who resist starve if they are food dependent on trade or isolated and the Fremen descend upon them. In Dune Messiah we see the end result and its over 60 billion people dead with several dozen worlds completely exterminated, all for Paul to become Emperor of the Known Universe. Paul has seen this and is terrified, but tragically to know the future is to become enslaved by it. He knows if he marches out there will be infinite human suffering, but to not do so dooms Chani, so he forces himself to charge into destiny.

Even if Paul and the Fremen take control of the Emperor's ships at the end of this film that's hardly the material to wage a Galactic War, and the Fremen aren't exactly an industrious people. Or does Paul act as something of a Missionary Conqueror, converting worlds and their people to his side thus gaining their resources?

No. They get on ships and spread out, wiping out worlds. The fremen were ruthless and fanatical, and made sardukar look soft. People followed out of fear eventually but Paul was the ultimate tyrant till his boy of course. As dude said also, spice huffing super soldiers.

They didn't kill them, Just incapacitated and captured them. You can see them alive in the small camp but from there, I'm assuming that they were let go to return to their own base orrr they joined Paul in helping :P.

@@rogueninja4719 That's good to know. I assumed by the way that the carryall and harvester blew up that at least some of them were killed. I still find it unlikely that the people inside the vehicle survived those lasguns.

Quite a few. They only went with a small force couple thousand maybe. Idk if there was a mass planetary genocide happening when Arakas was attacked but on his home planet, if it's still there there's still a full army there that was left as a garrison force. Basic military doctrine dictates these possibilities if this world follows it. I've never read the books only seen the movies including the 70s/80s version

Around 20-30 those who managed to escape with gurney during the attack on arrakeen. Most of the survivors went back to caladan after earning enough money from smuggling spice. Only gurney and a few hardcore soldiers remained. When Paul became emperor he richly rewarded these soldiers who stayed and fought for house atredies

Regardless of the amount, the surviving Artedies would be used more as advisors on operating more complex equipment (missile launchers and the like). Like the Fremen, the survivors would be fiercely loyal to Paul and as mentioned earlier, richly rewarded.

no unfortunately he was cut from the movie but if you haven't read the books or seen any old movie SPOILER ALERT after the attack he ends up forced serving harkonen and when he realize he was helping the harkonen against paul he basicaly took his own life realy cool character

Always amazes me how they never mention in the movies that the golden path saves humanity for extinction. I understand it’s a helluva choice, but he made the right one. Making his son carry the burden was the only truly cowardly or evil thing he did.

I don't think that's how Paul saw it; in all his visions, he saw that he is in fact to weak to carry the burden of being God-Emperor of Known Universe, because he is far to human to make harsh choices needed to save Humanity from ourselves; in books he wasn't even aware of full implications of Golden Path, so he couldn't be the one to carry it through. Only Leto II Atreides, later known as God-Emperor, could do it, because he and his sister were pre-born and avoided mad fate of their aunt.

@@Definitelylnterested I think that’s all true in the books, but it’s portrayed far differently on the screen. Which I don’t blame them for trying to save time, but that’s why you get all the commentary calling Paul “the villain”. The reasoning for his choices is much better flushed out in the books and it does deal with him basically admitting he wasn’t strong enough. Hell, even Leto had to make a deal with (I forget the entities names the old tyrant in his head) in order to maintain the course and keep the other entities from turning him into another abomination.

FIrst, while Paul was exceedingly powerful his son was more so. Paul was an accident, a rough facsimile of the KH the Bene Gesserit had been designing and building for 10,000 years. His abilities had limits. Let's also not forget he straddled two very different worlds. He was too empathetic and too burdened by his upbringing in the old ways to lead humanity fully down the path

Gurney was such a letdown in the movies after reading the books. On the page he was a musician, had a wry wit, and looked like a lephrechaun sent through a meat grinder. Instead of that colorful person we get generic soldier guy....

Still u gotta admit, even tho he didn't appear much he still established himself as a badass. In Dune I he led a desperate counterattack against Harkonnen forces in his pajamas while already killing two of them in his pajamas. Then, here in Dune II he leads another charge while slaying tons of harkonnen troopers including Rabban himself. I understand why Denis had to compress much with some of the characters, as there's not enough time in the movies to showcase everything about each character.

I know why Denis made _DUNE_ two movies; he was cheeky enough for naming the first _Part I_ without surety another would follow and it's a miracle _Part II_ was produced (with some woke concessions to satisfy the Jews at the bank and studio) but, I wish it would've been split into three films. You're never going to be able to cover EVERYTHING in a book but, the lore could've been fleshed out more, like Gurney here. They didn't address the Spacing Guild (save in passing), CHOAM, the Jessica-Hawat feud, his capture, the Atreides' de-Harkonnenization of Arrakis, Hassimir Fenring, mentats, the origin of spice, Liet Kynes (the actual one, not the gender-swapped abomination we saw), and so much more. It should've been _Dune: Part I, Part II,_ and _Part III._

That is something I find curious in this scene. The Fremen don't use shields because of the worms. Gurney knew this, yet he switched to his sword to engage them here when he could have used his gun while they closed in. I think in the book it's just a straight melee ambush?
