Dune Part 2 - Might Save Sci-Fi 

I saw this in a regular theater, but I wish I had gone to see it in IMAX. There wasn't one near me, and I couldn't make myself wait any longer; with every passing day, the call of the high seas was growing stronger. I am glad that I waited to watch part 1 until part 2 was just about to release. The momentum was phenomenal.

1st off: how come I HAD to tell you the popcorn bucket existed? 2nd... WHY did I tell you about it?

I felt much the same. A 12 part series on TV would have given the story enough time to be told properly. While I loved how this film looked and sounded, I left feeling disconnected to the characters and their plight. The love story in Attack of the Clones was more believable than the one presented here and I often found that the editing was choppy, moving from one thing to the next without giving us the detail and time required to allow us to feel the consequences of what we just witnessed. Overall this was slightly frustrating -it's a good story being told badly (or at least 'clinically').

But yea, it’s still better than the other crap we get.

I was worried it would be overhyped for me, because I didn’t love the first part. This movie blew me away on every level! It is a spectacle of effects, it is was enthralling with its story and characters, and developed this world even more. A masterclass in sci-fi filmmaking. I was floored. It also flew by for me as well, it was paced to near perfection. Great review!

I saw the movie opening day and loved it, for the most part. Also, a few years ago I tried reading the books, but I just couldn't get into them.

Given that this drops at 3am NZ time and I have to work in the morning, I'll have to check it out on the replay. Paul is a messiah, in that he's a prophet but at the end of the film he is not a heroic character. Meanwhile Jessica is one of the villains of this story. A very good film, maybe not great, but I'm looking forward to part three. Cheers.

Well Russ, I disagree with you on quite a bit about this film. But, I thoroughly enjoyed your review - I think it's your best work to date. Great job. I hate long form reviews, even those by Mauler and I'm culturally obligated to like everything he does, because Welsh people stick together. However, the Dune films are truly worthy of long form analysis - mostly because they're sociology essays disguised as science fiction. But more importantly, well done you.

I'm glad someone finally said something about Zendaya. I fully agree. She felt really out of place to me. I mean... the idea is that the fremen have their own unique language, but when she switches over to speaking English she sounds like... her. She sounds like MJ and every other character she has ever played. Javier Bardem sounds, more or less like him, but it felt right. Zendaya did not.

The last 5 seconds of this was great 🤣 intrusive thoughts won

« Our saviour » and I have one thing in common.. we are from the same town inQuébec .. whooohoooo!!!! Btw, if you would have mouth this movie, I would have flushed my subscription ahahha ;-P

The Dune agenda

Boooooooooooooooooo! The very fact that you say you need to see it and IMAX tells that it is more a spectacle without substance much like the Avatar movies. It completely misses the point of the book and just has a clinical unsatisfying feel to it. Watch the miniseries or read the book to see how much has been taken away from you. The further you get away from the adrenaline of watching the film the more you will realize that it wasn’t really that good story wise. And it is dull and drab monochromatic compared to such visual masterpieces as Lawrence Arabia which is what this was supposed to be but in space. Instead we get Braveheart in the desert. Exciting but ultimately unfulfilling. The enormous visceral technological and spiritual wonders that was Dune was sacrificed for a bunch of mystical poopoo. And let’s not even talk about the gender swaps and turning Stilgar into a comical joke. All of the great male leaders in this movie were ridiculed and done dirty. If I want a pretty screensaver I already have one. And it actually has color. You’re right about Chani not being a girl boss however she is teed up to be one in the next movie. Here she was just a childish petulant jealous annoying twank that was everything that the real Chani was not. Boooooooo!
