Dyson DC41 & DC65 Vacuum Repair & Maintenance

This is a DC41 with a bad brush bar. I believe the DC65 shares the same parts as the DC41.
Update 2/17/21: I just noticed the Dyson does not have a headlight.
This video is long because I go into the details of stripping down the dust bin.
This vacuum cleaner is well designed and requires no consumables. The two filters are washable. I think Dyson could do a better job offering more replacement parts.

Thank you for telling your viewers what size screw driver to use on those tiny little screws! Loved your very clear and detailed explanations. I was able to actually take everything apart and finally clean the brush bar rollers and casing. I like the Dyson but it does get very dirty.

Your video is very helpful in order to clean this vacuum, I would wash with water and soap most of the lose pieces but how important to know is that those small rollers could be damaged easily, thank you so much.

All vacuums leave something behind. Try the opposite order by having the Bissell go first and the Dyson afterwards, you will find that Regardless of what type of vacuum you’re using, no matter how many times you go over spots with it, your always going to get up something with another. No machine will ever extract everything from the carpet.

The brush does come off the end of the crevice tool - hold the button & give it a firm wiggle.

My DC41 dust canister/basket has started to fall off the vacuum. When engaging the vacuum rollers and snapping it back in, there seems to be some flex in the gray handle. It's like the dust bin is able to just barely be able to start to fall out because of it. It doesn't really look like the plastic is worn, but hard to tell. Do you think it's the spring inside the red piece that releases the basket? Any ideas how to make sure it doesn't pop off until I actually press the release button?

Why would I want a Bissell that actually destroys the carpet than a Dyson DC41 which is much less destructive to the carpet fabric?

I've watched this video again and again and it was all smooth sailing till I tried to put back the little spring and push the bin back into the canister. Do you make house calls?

Do you have beer and potato chips? That project was so long ago I don't remember the process. I gave the vacuum cleaner to my daughter. I'll have to watch the video again!

Hellos, my dc41 stays locked upright. I can not get it to decline. Anyway to fix this? Thank you

I never ran into this problem. First see if the accessory hose is blocked with debris. Remove the dust canister. You'll see a red button on the lower area of the handle. Push the button while lifting the hose out of the body of the vacuum. See if there's debris in there. If that's clean check the upright lock mechanism. I believe to get to it you have to remove the filter in the ball and then remove the cover plate that's under the filter. I think it's secured with torx screws. Let us know what you find. I have the same issue and no solution found so far. Checked for anything blocking in the hose and have disassembled the vacuum as far as I can. Unable to get to the other 2 screws holding the locking mechanism because I can't move the vacuum position past upright.

Take the fiber washer of the bearing,clean it with electrical cleaner spray,let dry, and mash grease into the bearing. Put the bearing back in and rotate it. Good to go.
